Thar’s gold in them thar hills! Dahlonega, the Georgia gateway to the Appalachians is the site of the first U.S. gold rush. Come pan for gold in historic Dahlonega on the Chestatee river. This large home is located directly on the Chestatee river just before the Coppermines. It was recently renovated, and is now ready for eager treasure hunters and vacationers.
This warm, inviting home on the river was built in 1996. It has five bedrooms, three and a half baths, two great rooms, and two kitchens. All the rooms have high ceilings including the ground floor. If you like vaulted wood ceilings and the heavenly sound and view of the river just two hundred feet off the covered back deck this is place to spend your vacation.
There are two suites upstairs each on a different floor with their own private bathrooms. Guests with bad knees or other disabilities can get to the mountain splendor bedroom on the main floor by going up just three steps outside. The honeymoon suite makes up the loft floor and has an Amish king-size bed and a vaulted wood ceiling. The terrace level (ground floor) has three bedrooms, one full bathroom, a great room/kitchen combo and a terrace under the main deck that also looks out at the gorgeous river and shoals.
Take your choice of the Goldrush bedroom with golden walls, an antique wooden poster bed and antique dresser, the Bear Footin bedroom with a full-size brass bed and bear theme or the Wilderness Adventure bedroom that has a built-in bunk bed and two twin beds below (kids love it)! If you have more than 11 people in your party there are two sofas, a full-size inflatable mattress and pump in the loft closet as well as another light-weight twin mattress you can set up in the honeymoon suite or in the rain forest great room on the ground floor.
The accommodations are perfect for two couples with children, large extended families, a girls, guys or couples getaway, small weddings, family and company gatherings. The main floor and loft suite have an old feel to them even though the house is relatively new. Several rooms have antique dressers and gold accents.
There are a few old photos of Dahlonega as well as some books about the area. The ground floor has a newer, more fun feel with a rain forest theme in the greatroom area. Even the bathrooms are fun in this house! You'ens come down yonder and have yur picture taken with our life-size wooden hillbilly, Jed! He'll be out on the deck with his moonshine awaiting your arrival.
Have you ever panned for gold? This house comes with 10 gold pans so your family and friends can come search for gold without ever leaving the property. The house has badminton, volleyball, horseshoes, croquet and a picnic table so you can play next to the river.
There are many things to do in Dahlonega including outdoor sports like kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and golf. If outdoors sports are not for you there are also several vineyards (Wolf Mountain Vineyards, Three Sisters Vineyards, Frogtown Mountain Vineyards), antique shops, arts and crafts shops, wildlife preserves and festivals to explore. The Smith House is a historic family style buffet worth visiting although somewhat pricey for country cooking (about $17 per person). Lake Lanier is also only 30 minutes south of Dahlonega in Cumming and Gainesville.
