Thar’s gold in them thar hills! Dahlonega, the Georgia gateway to the Appalachians is the site of the first U.S. gold rush. Come pan for gold in historic Dahlonega on the Chestatee river. This large home is located directly on the Chestatee river just before the Coppermines. It was recently renovated, and is now ready for eager treasure hunters and vacationers. We added a ductless air conditioning system in the honeymoon suite on the top floor of the house and continue to make improvements.
This warm, inviting home on the river was built in 1996. It has five bedrooms, three and a half baths, two great rooms, and two kitchens. All the rooms have high ceilings including the ground floor. If you like vaulted wood ceilings and the heavenly sound and view of the river just about one hundred feet off the covered back deck this is place to spend your vacation.
There are two suites upstairs each on a different floor with their own private bathrooms. Guests with bad knees or other disabilities can get to the mountain splendor bedroom on the main floor by going up just three steps outside. The honeymoon suite is the top floor and has an Amish king-size bed, a sitting area, a vaulted wood ceiling and a full private bathroom. The main floor master bedroom has a king size bed and a full private bathroom. The terrace level (ground floor) has three bedrooms of which two have queen size beds (the third bedroom has twin beds with a built in bunk-bed above for children) one full bathroom, a great room/kitchen combo and a terrace under the main deck that also looks out at the gorgeous river and shoals. There is a day bed with a trundle bed below in the terrace level great room so a total of nine guests can stay on that ground floor level. So in total there are two king beds, two queen beds, two twin beds with a built in bunk bed above for children under 12; and a day bed with a trundle bed below it.
Take your choice of the Goldrush bedroom with golden walls, a queen size sleigh bed and antique dresser, the waterfalls bedroom with a queen size bed or the wilderness adventure bedroom that has a built-in bunk bed and two twin beds below (kids love it)! If you have more than 13 people in your party there is a full size sofa upstairs and downstairs and a single size inflatable mattress and pump in the honeymoon suite closet.
The accommodations are perfect for two couples with children, large extended families, a girls, guys or couples getaway, wedding parties (we get a lot), family and company gatherings. The main floor and upstairs suite have an old feel to them even though the house is relatively new. Several rooms have antique dressers and gold accents. We have four televisions with Direct TV; the two upstairs bedrooms each have one and the two great rooms each have a television.
There are several old photos of civil war heros and the old south as well as some books about the area. The ground floor has a newer, more fun feel with a rain forest theme in the greatroom area. Even the bathrooms are fun in this house! You'ens come down yonder and have yur picture taken with our life-size wooden hillbilly, Jed! He'll be out on the deck with his moonshine awaiting your arrival.
Have you ever panned for gold? This house comes with several gold pans so your family and friends can come search for gold without ever leaving the property. At least two of our guests have found gold right on our property. The house has badminton, volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, frisbee toss, weighted yard dart toss, a fire pit, hammock and a picnic table so you can play next to the river. We have wireless internet, Direct TV and a several indoor games and puzzles.
There are many things to do in Dahlonega including outdoor sports like kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and golf. If outdoors sports are not for you there are also several vineyards (Wolf Mountain Vineyards, Three Sisters Vineyards, Frogtown Mountain Vineyards), antique shops, arts and crafts shops, wildlife preserves and festivals to explore. The Smith House is a historic family style buffet worth visiting although somewhat pricey for country cooking. Lake Lanier is also only 30 minutes south of Dahlonega in Cumming and Gainesville.

Our river house is great for extended families and groups because it has three floors and three and a half bathrooms. The inside is warm and inviting and actually feels cozy on the two upper levels if there are only two to four guests yet it has another floor below with three bedrooms and a full bathroom if you have a larger group or children. We also have a covered deck with a covered patio below so you can sit outside even in rainy weather. The river is literally in the back yard with just 15 steps from the ground floor to river level and it has many shoals so you can hear the river from the house as well as see the river. If you have an elderly relative or someone who cannot do stairs there are just three steps out front to get into the main floor with everything they would need on that level including the covered deck. And you can drive around the back of the house to the river level so they can enjoy the river without having to go down any steps. ...moreless

About the owner: I was born and raised in the Atlanta area, but both my parents were born and raised in Boston, MA. I currently live in Cumming, GA with my husband and our three dogs. I have a full time job at a subsidiary of a national bank. We have been renting out our river house as a vacation getaway home for almost 10 years now. I love nature and the outdoors especially the mountains. I enjoy hiking, bicycling, kayaking, walking, wildlife and my pets. I try to give all our guests a good deal including one night free if two or more nights are booked. I get a lot of compliments about the house and have been told by several guests the house was better than expected. We get a lot of wedding parties that book our house since the local vineyards host a lot of weddings. I have enjoyed renting the river house out and I like knowing our house has given lots of families life-long memories they will never forget.
Why the Owner Chose Dahlonega: I purchased this property for my father because my sister loves rivers and kayaking and she lives in Dahlonega. The rentals from our river house usually goes back into the house for improvements including a brand new self cleaning double oven and a new air conditioning compressor with any extra to support my elderly father with his assisted living expenses. Dahlonega is a very quaint, charming small town in the north Georgia mountains. Our river house is located directly on the Chestatee river where the first goldrush in the US took place. There are a lot of antique stores and vineyards so we get a lot of wedding parties that book our house.
The Unique Benefits at this House: The sound of the river just off the deck is heavenly. It's very relaxing to sit on the deck overlooking the river listening to the water hit the shoals below. Our river house is located on a dead end road so it's fairly private with only a two or three homes beyond ours. There is a lot of hiking in the area and you can fish and kayak on our property. However, one of the most unique activities you can do on the property is pan for gold. We have several gold pans in the house for our guests to see what they can find in the river. We also have horseshoes, badminton and volleyball you can set up in the grassy area next to the river. The square in Dahlonega is very charming and quaint. There are many stores and restaurants you can visit and if you like antiques or vineyards Dahlonega has those as well.
