Dahlonega house description
Thar’s gold in them thar hills! Dahlonega, the Georgia gateway to the Appalachians is the site of the first U.S. gold rush. Come pan for gold in historic Dahlonega on the Chestatee river. This large home is located directly on the Chestatee river just before the Coppermines. It was recently renovated, and is now ready for eager treasure hunters and vacationers. We also just installed a new air conditioning system including the honeymoon suite on the top floor of the house.
This warm, inviting home on the river was built in 1996. It has five bedrooms, three and a half baths, two great rooms, and two kitchens. All the rooms have high ceilings including the ground floor. If you like vaulted wood ceilings and the heavenly sound and view of the river just about one hundred feet off the covered back deck this is place to spend your vacation.
There are two suites upstairs each on a different floor with their own private bathrooms. Guests with bad knees or other disabilities can get to the mountain splendor bedroom on the main floor by going up just three steps outside. The honeymoon suite is the top floor and has an Amish king-size bed, a sitting area, a vaulted wood ceiling and a full private bathroom. The main floor has a king size bed and a full private bathroom. The terrace level (ground floor) has three bedrooms of which two have queen size beds (the third bedroom has twin beds with a built in bunk-bed above for children) one full bathroom, a great room/kitchen combo and a terrace under the main deck that also looks out at the gorgeous river and shoals. There is a day bed with a trundle bed below in the terrace level great room so a total of nine guests can stay on that ground floor level. So there are two king beds, two queen beds, two twin beds with a built in bunk bed above for children under 12; and a day bed with a trundle bed below it.
Take your choice of the Goldrush bedroom with golden walls, a queen size sleigh bed and antique dresser, 'the waterfalls bedroom 'with a queen size bed or the wilderness adventure bedroom that has a built-in bunk bed and two twin beds below (kids love it)! If you have more than 13 people in your party there is a full size sofa upstairs and downstairs and a single size inflatable mattress and pump in the honeymoon suite closet.
The accommodations are perfect for two couples with children, large extended families, a girls, guys or couples getaway, wedding parties (we get a lot), family and company gatherings. The main floor and upstairs suite have an old feel to them even though the house is relatively new. Several rooms have antique dressers and gold accents. We have four televisions with Direct TV; the two upstairs bedrooms each have one and the two great rooms each have a television.
There are several old photos of civil war heros and the old south as well as some books about the area. The ground floor has a newer, more fun feel with a rain forest theme in the greatroom area. Even the bathrooms are fun in this house! You'ens come down yonder and have yur picture taken with our life-size wooden hillbilly, Jed! He'll be out on the deck with his moonshine awaiting your arrival.
Have you ever panned for gold? This house comes with several gold pans so your family and friends can come search for gold without ever leaving the property. At least two of our guests have found gold right on our property. The house has badminton, volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, frisbee toss, weighted yard dart toss, a fire pit, hammock and a picnic table so you can play next to the river. We do have wireless internet, Direct TV and a few indoor games and puzzles.
There are many things to do in Dahlonega including outdoor sports like kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and golf. If outdoors sports are not for you there are also several vineyards (Wolf Mountain Vineyards, Three Sisters Vineyards, Frogtown Mountain Vineyards), antique shops, arts and crafts shops, wildlife preserves and festivals to explore. The Smith House is a historic family style buffet worth visiting although somewhat pricey for country cooking. Lake Lanier is also only 30 minutes south of Dahlonega in Cumming and Gainesville.

- Our river house is great for extended families and groups because it has three floors and three and a half bathrooms. The inside is warm and inviting and actually feels cozy on the two upper levels if there are only two to four guests yet it has another floor below with three bedrooms and a full bathroom if you have a larger group or children. We also have a covered deck with a covered patio below so you can sit outside even in rainy weather. The river is literally in the back yard with just 15 steps from the ground floor to river level and it has many shoals so you can hear the river from the house as well as see the river. If you have an elderly relative or someone who cannot do stairs there are just three steps out front to get into the main floor with everything they would need on that level including the covered deck. And you can drive around the back of the house to the river level so they can enjoy the river without having to go down any steps. ...moreless

I just had the BEST vacation EVER! Love the location! Everything was clean and the owner was so helpful getting us all set up. The RIVER WAS PERFECT! There is a fire ring right down by the river and lots of chairs, so we built a fire and roasted marshmallows. In the morning, we had coffee on the deck and listened to the sound of the shoals. I live close by (this was a staycation)and know the area well, so we went TUBING. If you decide to tube, READ THIS FIRST . . . . put in on the Tesnatee River on Dugas Road, Dahlonega and take out at the rental house. The Tesnatee will flow into the Chestatee. There are some dangerous rapids on the Chestatee River up river and down river from the house, so this is really the only section I would recommend tubing. Any other stretch would require boats, paddles and lots of experience. I can't wait to go back and am about to ask the owner about future availability. LOVE THIS PLACE!

Owner response: Thank you for your review Robin, and especially for your tips on tubing and kayaking near our family's river house. I'm sure that will be very informative for future guests! I am SO glad you, your friends and the children had so much fun! I do hope we can find some open weekends for you to come back next year!
Fun on the River
Fun on the River
My entire family (husband, adult children, and grandchildren) were at the cabin at various times during our two week stay. Everything was as stated in the cabin description and pictures. It was a very quiet and restful location with a beautiful river view from the deck. Cabin is very spacious and there was plenty of room. It was also a great place for the kids to go tubing. They floated downstream from the cabin a couple of times as well as going up stream and floating down to get out at the cabin. The cabin was clean and had everything you would need. Beth (the owner) was very easy to work with and very friendly. The property is not listed as handicapped accessible. However, I was able to fully access the entire main floor with my wheelchair by using my ramp that I brought with me. Loved our stay and will come again.

Owner response: I am so glad you and your family enjoyed our river house Barbara, and that you were able to move around easily in your wheelchair within the main floor. There are just three steps outside in the front of the house, and that main floor has everything you need including the master bedroom and private master bathroom. I do advertise that floor as ideal for elderly guests or people with bad knees, but that is good to know about the wheelchair too so thank you for adding your comments. I hope you and your family will come back again and keep in mind I offer a 10% discount for repeat guests!
A hospitable stay
A hospitable stay
We had a family reunion of about 14 people at the River House for about a week. It was a very nice place to stay. It was comfortable and the owner was very hospitable. The setting was quiet, peaceful, and relaxing.

Owner response: I'm so glad you all enjoyed the peacefulness and serenity of our river house. I have always thought it is located on a nice part of the river, and the fact we are near the end of a short private road makes it quiet!
The best stay ever!
The best stay ever!
What a beautiful home and setting! Not only that Beth is a wonderful person to deal with and very concerned about not just your upkeep of the home, but hers as well. She wants to make your stay the best it can be and she is always available and if she isn't there is always someone to contact if you have any problems. Thoroughly the most enjoyable stay for our daughters wedding! Many compliments from family and friends!!

The rental was everything that the ad promised. The river and atmosphere were great. The price for the three night stay was unbeatable and the owner is very fast with communication requests. I emailed the owner with some areas of the home that were in need of repair from prior wear so our damage waiver would not be claimed. There were small things like the A/C works great in the middle and lower floor but the upper bedroom/master suit remains muggy when the outside air is hot with the only air offered was through a noisy window unit. The property price was right but it was apparent that the price was on par with the cleanliness of the home. All the counters were wiped down and the refrigerator was clean but furniture and most home decorations were dusty. Some of the linens had holes in them or were stained from wear. I would recommend this property to others but keep in mind you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a premier property look elsewhere. If you are looking for a gently used property this is your place. Dahlonega was great with nearby attractions and stores for browsing. We loved our stay and the accomodations because the price and location was right. Thanks Beth!

Owner response: Thanks for your feedback Jeff. I don't always know about the little things until my guests tell me. I replaced some towels immediately after you emailed me, and I buy new sheets on a regular basis. I also reminded my cleaning crew to be sure to throw away anything that might be stained or worn. I did give you and your family a very low rate mostly because you booked our river house two weeks before your arrival date and I had a vacancy for the dates you requested. I would always rather have our river house rented at a discount than sitting vacant, and I almost always offer an extra night free if my guests book two or more nights. I also just replaced the window unit air conditioner in the honeymoon suite with a new Trane air conditioning system after receiving your feedback about the window unit air conditioner. I take pride in providing a beautiful, clean and affordable place for my guests to make lifetime memories!
My wife and I along with our 3 year old daughter stayed at Beth's River house for 3 days recently. I can't describe just how much we enjoyed ourselves! The house was in perfect condition, clean and fully equipped!! We spent hours down by the river enjoying ourselves. We went into Dahlonega and visited the Crisson Gold mine(a must see) and our daughter had a blast looking for gold and gems. We hope to return next year for another "mini-vacation" and rent here again!!

Great time with Friends for a Winery Tour Weekend
Great time with Friends for a Winery Tour Weekend
We had a great time at the river house for a birthday weekend with friends. The weather was beautiful which allowed us to take full advantage of the huge deck overlooking the river. The house was as advertised, in great shape and plenty of room. One of the couples that joined us for the weekend asked for the VRBO link to the property so that they could book a family weekend there as well. The owner was very accommodating and quick to respond to questions we had regarding our stay. This will be bookmarked for future occasions, to be certain. It is very close to most of the wineries in the area, which was perfect for spending more time taking in the sites at each stop, and less travel time to and from the house. Overall a really great weekend and a great birthday, due in large part to this rental property.

Our stay in Dahlonega was fabulous and made all the better by staying at this wonderful property. Tucked away on the Chestatee River but only about 12 minutes from the Town Square, it offered privacy, nature and all the comforts of home. The owner was very accomodating, flexible and easily accessible by phone if needed. We will definitely return to All About Gold and The River on our next visit to Dahlonega!

Family Christmas Weekend
Family Christmas Weekend
We took our family for a long weekend before Christmas. There was plenty of space for everyone. The setting is beautiful, the river is awesome! It was peaceful and private but only a short ride into Dahlonega. The downtown area was perfect for the entire family, young and old.

About the owner: I was born and raised in the Atlanta area, but both my parents were born and raised in Boston, MA. I currently live in Cumming, GA with my husband and our three dogs. I have a full time job at a subsidiary of a national bank. We have been renting out our river house as a vacation getaway home for eight years now. I love nature and the outdoors especially the mountains. I enjoy hiking, bicycling, kayaking, walking and my pets. I try to give all our guests a good deal including one night free if two or more nights are booked. I get a lot of compliments about the house and have been told by several guests the house was better than expected. We get a lot of wedding parties that book our house since the local vineyards host a lot of weddings. I have enjoyed renting the river house out and I like knowing our house has given lots of families life-long memories they will never forget.
Why the Owner Chose Dahlonega:
I purchased this property for my father because my sister loves rivers and kayaking and she lives in Dahlonega. The rentals from our river house usually goes back into the house for improvements including a brand new self cleaning double oven and a new air conditioning compressor with any extra to support my elderly father with his assisted living expenses. Dahlonega is a very quaint, charming small town in the north Georgia mountains. Our river house is located directly on the Chestatee river where the first goldrush in the US took place. There are a lot of antique stores and vineyards so we get a lot of wedding parties that book our house.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The sound of the river just off the deck is heavenly. It's very relaxing to sit on the deck overlooking the river listening to the water hit the shoals below. Our river house is located on a dead end road so it's fairly private with only a two or three homes beyond ours. There is a lot of hiking in the area and you can fish and kayak on our property. However, one of the most unique activities you can do on the property is pan for gold. We have several gold pans in the house for our guests to see what they can find in the river. We also have horseshoes, badminton and volleyball you can set up in the grassy area next to the river. The square in Dahlonega is very charming and quaint. There are many stores and restaurants you can visit and if you like antiques or vineyards Dahlonega has those as well.
