Only a few steps off the patio to see the turtles swimming in the surf every morning, and the humpbacks breaching and spout just off shore. The Kuleana experience is one to truly savor for years to come. The condo is nicely fitted out, and with the bar-b-que just around the corner, it's a great spot to meet a few neighbors and grill up some ahi for dinner. What a fabulous place to call home while experiencing the splendor of Maui. Mahalo for sharing with us.

The perfect way to start the day is with rich Hawaiian coffee and an ocean view. We would sit on our lanai in the morning and watch the whales breach, we could walk down a few steps and see green sea turtles munching algae. This condo is a wonderful location for these leisurely activities. When we stepped out the other door we were at the swimming pool. The condo was will fitted with everything one could need to have a perfect vacation. We did have a rental car and would advise anyone to have one anywhere on the island. The grounds are kept up beautifully, flowers everywhere. Staff helpful and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Best Trip Ever

This was our fifth trip to the islands, and our best location ever. The beach, the view, and the ambience were terrific. The condo was immaculate, beautifully decorated, and completely equipped. The complex was quiet with extremely nice and well-kept amenities. We will be back.

What an awesome place to spend a 75th birthday! Literally, just a few steps from the beach makes this the best condo in all of Kuleana! The grounds were absolutely immaculate. Your condo was all we'd imagined, and then some. You have all the touches of home and you've thought of everything... thoughtful, useful upgrades! Although we've been coming to Maui for 30+ years, we have now found our very favorite condo. Dinners at Lahaina Grill and the SeaHouse were fabulous, but there was nothing like grilling our favorite fish and having dinner on the lanai, watching the sunsets and enjoying the soft Maui air. Mahalo for a special place to celebrate.

The condo is exactly as described! It had everything that you could need for your stay. It is possible the closest condo to the beach on the property. This place is fantastic. The location can't be beat You are literally only feet from the ocean. You can snorkel with an amazing number of turtles right there in front of the condo. It's close to shopping, restaurants and grocery stores. We rented both the units and it worked out well for two couples. We would take the deck tables out on the lawn to have fabulous home cooked sunset dinners. The pool is large enough that there is never a lack of lounge chairs available. The grounds are full of beautiful flowers and well maintained. It's very peaceful and quiet. The owners were very easy to work with and gave us lots of great information about restaurants and activities. We will definitely be returning.

Amazing Maui experience

This was our third stay and we love it even more than ever. These units and the entire complex are beautiful, peaceful and healing. The ocean views are stunning as are the sunsets. The discriptions and photos don't do it justice. We had friends staying at Whaler's Village and they came over for sunset and were totally blown away. On top of that, the condo is very clean, updated and the bed is totaly comfortable. I have back issues so that is very important. Actually, I think next time our friends come they will stay here. Perfect Vacation Rental!!

My husband, three year old daughter, and I visited the Kuleana Resort from August 2-9. We have been to Maui before, and we weren't sure if we should stray from the larger resorts we have stayed at. We did our homework and thought that this condo would best meet our needs. We read the reviews and hoped that they would live up to their descriptions. Not only did they live up to their description, but they far exceeded our expectations!! The location of the condo couldn't be more perfect. The ocean front views had us eat almost every meal on the lanai. We went out for a few meals, but nothing was better than watching the rainbows in the morning after the light rain, and the amazing sunsets over the Pacific to end the day. The barbecues and snorkel ladder are literally steps from the back door. We watched the sea turtles daily, and lost count of how many we saw right at the snorkel ladder. Two days in a row we watched a pod of dolphins jump, flip, and swim by. Accessible beaches are also right outside. We did venture out to other beaches, restaurants, and shops, and that was another great thing about the location of this condo. Grocery stores, great shopping, restaurants, and family friendly beaches weren't more than a ten minute drive away. Not only are the grounds and views picture perfect, but the other vacationers/owners at the Kuleana are helpful and friendly. The people there made the stay as wonderful as the accommodations. Additionally, Kathy was extremely helpful in answering all of our questions. She quickly responded to any email and phone call we had when we were planning this trip. We were very pleased with the condition of the unit, as it was exactly as described. Our daughter keeps asking us when we are going back to Hawaii, and tells us how much she loved our vacation. We told her we definitely plan on returning, and we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else than the Kuleana! We highly recommend this location and can't wait to return!

I took my daughters here for a week and we were in a dream world! The photos are exactly what the sight is like. The location is perfect. The huge turtles were amazing! The girls and I liked shopping in the town of Lahaina which is no more than 10 minutes away. We enjoyed our sunrise bike ride with the Haleakala Bike Co. I recommend using them because you can go at your own pace down the volcano which is very nice. We enjoyed eating at Duke's (less than 5 minutes away) then having the Hula Pie for dessert. One was enough for my two teenage daughters and myself to share. If you never had a hula pie you must have one, delicious! After we ate we walked on the beach by Duke's for a couple of hours enjoying the sunset. It is beautiful! The people in Maui are so nice and very informative. The office at Kuleana Resort was very helpful. Everything we did was wonderful. The property was clean and well maintained. I always recycle and was happy to see Maui do the same. If you go shopping bring your own bags or use the ones in the condo because Maui does not use plastic bags. I would definitely recommend this property to my friends and relatives. My husband wants to bring me back here with him in the future. I can't wait to come back! Thank you Jim and Kathy for sharing your condo!

We loved staying at your beautiful condo! It was by far the best snorkling spot we've ever found on the island (we've been traveling to Maui together annually for over 10 years, the sea turtles were amazing. Your description does not exaggerate when it says "oceanfront". It is literally steps from the ocean! The unit was very clean and comfortable, and was stocked with everything we needed, including filtered drinking water and an ice machine! The grounds of this resort are also very well-kept and lavish. Our stay here was part of our 10-yr anniversary celebration, and now we can't wait to return to this condo, year after year. Love, love, love it.

Beautiful Oceanfront Condo!

Just got back from a wonderful trip to Kauai/Maui. We stayed at this condo from 4/18/11-4/22/11 and just loved it! We saw turtles and whales from our lanai and cooked dinner on the BBQs most nights....and watched the sunset while eating. This condo truly is even better than advertised! Didn't have a single problem with anything and the owners gave us all the info and helpful tips before we ever left the mainland. (Just a note...there are 7 steps down to get into the condo...I broke my ankle while on Kauai and was still able to navigate the steps with crutches without too much dificulity.) We will definitely be staying here on our next trip to Maui!

Owner response:The sliding glass doors that enter the condo from the lanai on the ocean side is at ground level without steps. The walkway to the ocean front is gradually sloped for easy access. This is the method that guests that require access without steps generally use.

Love, love the Kuleana! Condo is nicely decorated, quiet, and has spectacular view of the ocean. I love the tiki torches at night. Flowers are beautiful as are the grounds. My husband and I love sitting outside watching the whales. If you are looking for a restful peaceful place to stay you can't go wrong with this condo. We've been to their condo 3 times and haven't been disappointed. Also its never crowded at the pool, we almost always have it to ourselves. We have tested other larger resorts but love the atmosphere of the kuleana. The Bed is comfy and love the granite in the bathroom. Aloha!

We just spent several weeks at this condo and found it to be the highlight of our trip. The unit was not only exceptionally clean and neat, but also had been decorated in very classy and tasteful style. The master bed was one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in, just dreamy. It was a joy to get up in early morning with our coffee and go out on the lanai and watch the day begin while watching the whales jump and the turtles surface just below us. The grounds of the condominium are just like a beautiful arboretum and the groundskeepers work on it daily to keep it pristine. What a place. We had a hard time leaving and can't wait to come back.

We stayed in this unit during the winter months--and it lives up to its reputation--The Kuleana is a gem!! Beautiful gardens, hawaiian flowers and hospitality. The unit sits about 20 yards from the Pacific ocean with wonderful views.The one bedroom unit is well equipped with all the comforts a vacationer would want while away from home. The pool is directly out the back door and the ocean on the other side. The owners are easy to work with to ensure a great time. I highly recommend this unit--and there is another one just like it on the other side of a connecting door-should you require additional space.

We had an awesome time. It was the best way to celebrate our 30th anniversary--many memories to share for a long time. The condo was exactly what the pictures showed and described. Everything was clean and very accommodating for us. We had several other "residents" asking about the condo because it was ground level and oceanview. There were business cards on the table and we gave out several to those inquiring. The sunsets were gorgeous. We had a very relaxing time and spent all our meals eating on the lanau. The turtles were a delight to watch. Can't wait to go back.

We had a wonderful stay at the condo. It is definately ocean front, which is what we wanted. We could see the sea turtles from our lanai. It is perfect for 2 people. The facilities on site and grounds were maintained very well. I would definately recomend this unit to anyone.

We had an amazing time here. The weather was perfect and the condo was exactly as advertised. Very clean and up to date. Just the right size for 2. We loved the fact that it is ground floor so you can walk off your lanai and right to the beach to swim with the turtles (and there were plenty).The palm tree right outside makes for the best sunset pictures. Maui Brewing Company is just a short drive away and they have great beer and food. The grocery store just down the street is now called The Times and is very well stocked and the Okazuya Deli is amazing. We can't wait to return to Maui and this wonderful condo.

EXCELLENT Rating for Property - POOR rating for the bed

I have two complete opposite reviews, unfortunately, The condo was EXCELLENT, small but just perfect for two people. No need to ever leave except for groceries. However, the bed was so broken down that my back hurt so bad that I had to find a local chiropractor.This is the rating for POOR. We tried sleeping on the floor, pulling the mattress off the hide-a-bed couch, and finally ended sleeping crossways on the bed (which was a king). I would go back in a second, if they replaced the mattress. Having a hurt back changes the whole experience.

Owner response:The guests did not contact us; if they had, I would have arranged for Macy’s to inspect the mattresses. The Simmon's Beauty Rest California King mattress set was purchased from Macy’s approximately 1 year ago and is comparable to the "Westin Heavenly Mattress". The mattresses are very expense and top-of-the-line quality. I immediately contacted these guests. They said that the middle of the mattress was too soft. King beds have 2-twin box springs ... Macy's does not sell the mattress without new box springs because of the warranty. The mattresses have a warranty and I will follow-up with Macy's to verify there is no issue. When we are on vacation, even to our own condos, the most important item is the bed for a good night sleep. We purchased the mattresses to provide this to us and our guests. Our family and friends love the beds. In fact, the last time we came home we commented that we wish we could have brought the beds. We have furnished the condo's with high quality items because we know how important vacations are. Hawaiian vacations may be a once in a lifetime experience. We work hard for our 5 star rating. I am truly sorry these guests did not enjoy the bed. I know people have different opinions on beds (too firm, too soft). However, I am pleased the guests loved everything else.

What a wonderful holiday! This was our 4th time staying at the Kuleana and every time surpasses the last. A truly awesome condomimium. Clean, bright, modern, comfortable, all the amenities of home. The pool is huge, warm and clean and right out the front door. The gardens are lush, well kept and a joy to stroll through. The view from the lanai - WOW! Overlooking the ocean it was a joy every morning to watch the turtles frolic in the surf. This trip we had the added bonus of the whales. Hours every day of tail slapping, jumping and breaching. Truly magical. Never disappointed, always an adventure to cherish. Loved it!

What an excellent home away from home in Paradise! The description and photos are great but actually do not do this beautiful condo justice. The furnishings are lovely and there are wonderful island touches everywhere. The view is spectacular from the patio, and the cove where turtles play is just steps away. The pool area is well-kept, as is the entire property, with tropical flowers in abundance. The location of this condo is perfect. It is located in a quiet area, with a short drive to Lahaina, Kaanapali, great restaurants, and beautiful beaches. This is a perfect place to call home while on Maui!

We arrived to find the online description of this condo was spot on. The condo was spotless and very well maintained. Both of us enjoyed our entire visit to the island and took home many great memories. Who could forget watching whales dancing on the water or pods of dolphins cruising in formation, both close enough to see clearly from our lanaii with the naked eye!!! Not to mention the sunsets on the lanaii, the sunsets are simply spectacular. The location is very close to beaches, shopping, bars, restaurants, and site seeing, but as with most places on Mauii we recommend that you rent a car to get around. The condo complex is very well maintained, quit and safe. Every nite we slept with the sliding door to the lanaii open, and the sounds of the surf crashing on the shore 20 feet from our condo lulled us to sleep. We are big barbque fans and love our Alberta beef, so when we found the group barbque only steps from our lanaii, we made plans to try some Mauii beef (Hawaiian's claim it's the best in the world). The barbques are cleaned daily, & when I say cleaned, I mean they are scrubbed and washed until they sparkle like new. By the way, the Mauii beef is awesome, we highly recommend you give it a try. The pool area is just steps from the front door of the condo, and is kept very clean (note to myself, don't forget the keys to both the pool and condo in the locked pool area!). Over all, this is a true 5 star condo and we both highly recommend it. When we return to Mauii again, and there's no doubt we will very soon, we will be staying at this condo again.

We loved our stay in your condo in January 2010. While everyone at home in Delaware was digging out from the snowstorms, we were basking in the sun at your condo. It was so great to sit on the lanai and watch the whales frolicking in the ocean. We took several boat trips and got to see the whales up close and what a thrill that was. We had a wonderful stay here in #407. We joined our daughter & son-in-law this trip who've stayed in #408 before, and this was just as they described. What a wonderful location. My husband and I certainly enjoyed our stay at this waterfront condo! We found the unit extremely clean, and it appeared that the unit was recently professionaly renovated and decorated. We woke up to the view of sea turtles swimming around in the beautiful and expansive ocean (which lies directly in front of the unit) and enjoyed some of the most incredible Hawaiian sunsets (from our own private/ground floor deck) at the end of the day. The unit was conveniently located near the barbeque for evening grilling, and the pool was a nice size for cooling off. The owner was gracious and assisted us with all our needs. We have found our permanent spot when coming to Maui and have no hesitation in passing on this recommendation to friends and family! :)

We stayed 7 nights and the location is just awesome! Right out your living room door to the lanai that is only steps from the beach. Favorite things were swimming at "our" Kuleana beach with the turtles (literally close enough to hear their breath exhale)and watching the sunset each night from the lanai. The condo is clean & comfy and the furnishings are nice. A/C in the bedroom to cool off at night is a big plus. Next time we come back we will bring friends to rent the adjoining room - what a great setup! On this visit we got to meet the owners (The Dows) and enjoyed spending the evenings with them at the backyard happy hour sunset. Jim & Kathy are great!

My husband and I took our honeymoon here last September and loved it. The location was amazing, I still can't believe we were able to stay steps from the ocean. One of the best parts of the whole vacation was snorkeling with the turtles right outside our condo. The condo itself was clean, comfortable, and it was great to have a full fridge on vacation. We stocked up on some groceries early on and were able to save some money by not eating out every meal.

We absolutely loved it the last time we were there - from the rainbows, to the turtles, and the beautiful pool and condo. This time, we are hoping to see the whales. In all the times we have been to Hawaii, we have never seen the whales. If you are thinking of staying in Maui, don't hesitate to stay at these condos.

This condo sounded too good to be true, so we were concerned. We needent have been. Driving up the road we said "that's the complex we'd like to be in" - and it was the one. Walking through the complex we said "that's the building we'd like to be in" - and we were. Right by the ocean, great view, great sunsets, turtles to watch, and whales passing in the distance. The condo itself is comfortable and modern. We have just booked for a return next March...

We spent nine days in Unit 407 in mid May and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This oceanfront condo was as advertised -- within 10 yards of the beach, clean, nicely furnished, and well outfitted. From the lanai we saw humpback whales, green sea turtles, a monk seal, and fabulous sunsets. Grocery shopping and good restauarants were close by, as was the farmer's market that had a good selection of fresh, tropical fruit and banana bread. Jim and Kathy made the rental process easy. We'd definitely stay here again.

If you're looking for that cozy but modern condo steps away from the Pacific Ocean, look no more. As most of us do, I worried that the place I had rented wasn't going to live up to my expections. I was wrong! The pictures do not lie! This condo is beautiful and well kept. The thing about Maui is that you know you're going to see beautiful flora, colorful fish and wonderful sunsets. So when you add a great place to stay on top of it, you have a great vacation experience.

Clean, comfortable, close to the water, great scenery, great condo group facilities. Grounds were beautifully maintained and the community grills were cleaned well daily! Loved the pool. This is a corner bottom unit, so was a pathway, but most people were respectful and it was worth being so close to the ocean! I would definitely recommend this place!

Recommended for:Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Aloha Kathy and Jim: We stayed in your unit 408 and our friends stayed in unit 407. We enjoyed our visit in your paradise island condo and found everything was perfect. The condo was well stocked and the location is amazing any closer and you truly would be in the ocean. It was truly a wonderful relaxing holidays listening to the waves and seeing whales jump in front of our lanai not to mention the turtles we seen every morning feeding in front of our condo. The location of the condo is fantastic and we truly were blessed to be able to stay and enjoy this wonderful location. We also would like to thank Kathy for her attentiveness and generosity in letting us stay a little longer on the day of our departure we truly appreciated it. My husband and I rented this property in January of 2009 and it was wonderful. The photos can't capture the beauty of this location. The condo itself is wonderful, beautiful kitchen and bath, great furniture. The property was clean and well kept, and the owners were wonderful to work with. Everyone in the complex was very friendly. This condo is only minutes away from many restaraunts, shops and activities. And when we were there we got to see whales from the patio almost everyday! I would recommend it to anyone n a heartbeat, and will probably go back again myself!

A beautiful place to stay while in Maui

We stayed at this condo from 9/24 to 10/9/2008 and it was truly fantastic. It's back deck faces the ocean, and just the sound of the waves, the beautiful sunsets, rainbows, and seeing the sea turtles visiting the rocks was utterly amazing. The condo was very well maintained and beautiful and was a great home away from home. The swimming pool near the front end of the condo was a great place to relax when you needed a break from the ocean and other activities. Don't hesitate to select this condo - it's location is ideal and will add to your love of Maui and Hawaii. .

This place is amazing to the fullest degree...perfect for a couple. The view from the living room is breathtaking, hearing the waves crash against the sand during the day and at night, the sea turtles, snorkeling, the place well kept & clean, what more could you want? You will enjoy spending time with someone at this place, sitting on the beach and watching the sunset was customary for us. I will definitely return when I come back to Hawaii. I took my new wife to this great Condo with an oceanview. You can't beat waking up to the sound of the waves crashing and whales swimming. Great view all day long from the baloncy. I was totally happy with the choice.

Jim and Kathy, Just wanted to drop a note to let you folks know that we truly enjoyed our stay in 407!We knew for certain that we wanted to avoid a “resort type atmosphere”… we really appreciated the quiet setting and very close proximity to the ocean. My son and I spent approx. 6 hours per day taking underwater photos, as we explored the coastline (from the ladder to points North). The weather was fantastic until the eve of our departure. And “the quake” added some memorable excitement to the trip… closed it out with a bang I suppose. All in all, super experience!We all appreciated our stay, particularly in the setting of your place… and look forward to booking again next year!

It's hard to imagine being any closer to the ocean with the same peaceful surroundings and spectacular views. The place was wonderful. The Bar B Que is right outside of the condo. The view of the Pacific is magnificent. The best part is that I was able to swim every morning with lots of fish and one particular sea turtle who liked to swim up the coast for about 20 minutes. It truly was great to be there. Also, the hosts were available if a problem came up. It was a very minor problem with the blinds. Definetly will be back.

Owner response:Jeff sent me a picture of the sea turtle that he swam with each morning - I can email to you if you are interested. Also, our handy man was able to fix the blind the following day after Jeff notified me. We strive to make sure that everything is top quality and in working order for our guests vacation. The early morning after our 11:00 pm arrival we looked out our window to the ocean - What a fabulous site - even a rainbow - We are in love with the view. Snorkeling and just swimming in the curing waters is such a treat. We made friends with the fish, the urchins, used the salt to fix our skin - WOW. Absolutely look forward to another trip here.

Having lived on the ocean growing up and then 10 years in Bodega Bay CA the sound of the waves at night was so familiar. My sister and I enjoyed swimming and snorkeling at a variety of locations in the area. The small cove to the left of the complex is easy to access, good for bobbing and viewing the scenary. Our favorite restaurant was A Saigon Cafe in Wialuku. It is in the yellow pages and there is a map, its a bit tricky to find. Fun and funny staff and delivous Vietnamese food. After a lovely and relaxing time at #407 its back to CA to get ready for a new school year.
