Once again a wonderful time staying in this cozy cabin! Every year several girlfriends and I can't wait to hit the road to Fleetwood staying in the Ginger Bread Chalet! This year we were ther October 15th through the 22nd and at first the weather was a little warm, in the low 70's but by Wedensday we had a fire in the fireplace. This is a wonderful place to stay, very warm and cozy it feels like you are home. We look forward to next October and count the days. Thank you for sharing your home. Angela

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your home during our vacation. As we arrived to Fleetwood Falls we had a little trouble finding our way through the narrow roads. Once we found the driveway and maneuvered up the short but steep drive we arrived at your beautiful home. We quickly came up to check out this cozy cabin. It was absolutely perfect! My husband, son and myself stayed in the loft. My mom stayed in one of the rooms downstairs and my sister and her husband stayed in the room with the bunk beds. They found for adults this bunk bed was a little cramped so they pulled the mattress to the floor and slept great. They kitchen is small but very manageable. We grilled two nights, once using the electric grill for kabobs and once using the charcoal grill for steaks and corn on the cob. My husband spent many hours lying in the hammock. We enjoyed at night by the fire pit roasting marshmallows, making s’mores and looking at the stars. Somehow we seemed to have had plenty of time to relax as well as go on adventures. One day we went to Grandfather Mountain and walked across the mile high swinging bridge. It was extremely cold and the winds were blowing so hard it was intimidating; most of us braved it and crossed for pictures. On the way back to the cabin we stopped at The Daniel Boone Inn for dinner and as always it was amazing. The next day we tubed in the river with your tubes we enjoyed it but the water levels were low at the time we were here. We did most of our grocery shopping at Ingles in West Jefferson; the Bavarian cream donuts are great. An adventure that a friend told us about was the Virginia Creeper trail. We drove to Damascus Virginia which was about an hour and a half. We really enjoyed the ride it was mostly coasting downhill, plenty of places to stop for drinks and snacks along the way. We ate at Mountain Aire Seafood and Steaks in West Jefferson the portions are huge so order smaller than normal. We also went white water rafting on the French Broad. We choose to use a small rafting company out of Boone, River and Earth Adventures. We enjoyed being part of a small group; the guides Mike and Jordan were great. They were smart, funny, helpful and encouraging they made the trip exciting. Because we only had 2 rafts, our family of 3 and another family of 3 we were able to pass by larger groups, and had time to stop at interesting stops along the way. On our last day we relaxed and visited West Jefferson for a little shopping. Thanks

Perfect, is the only description I can give. We have been going to this chalet when it was first built many years ago, and every year since. For the last 10 years a bunch of girlfriends get together for our annual girlfriend week away and have had a blast staying at this chalet. It is always like going home when I drive up that driveway. Honest, everything is perfect. I'm reserving it for next year.

We stayed with our three children in Patti's cabin in July 2010 for a week. The children were in awe of the whole Gingerbread Cabin theming and we loved the homely feel of the place, The cabin was well equipped and well maintained and we thought it was good value for money. It felt quite remote being about a 15 minute drive to the local Walmart and West Jefferson restaurants. Boone was about a 30 minute drive and was a fairly upmarket destination. . We liked being close to the New River which was great as we used Patti's tubes (stored in the basement) and we enjoyed the trail up the Fleetwood Falls. There was also a lake which was only a 5 minute walk from the cabin which we all enjoyed swimming in. Whilst we were there we drove to Tennessee (Nolichucky River) to raft but would not recommend this unless you have children over 12 as we found it a bit tame with a 9 year old and it was a 2 1/2 hour journey each way. Patti was always very helpful to us both when we booked and leading up to our arrival, providing us with lots of local information and suggestions for trips. This made a real difference to our stay. Thank you Patti for letting us use your home!

I had a wonderful relaxing time. The Gingerbread Chalet is very cozy and accomodating. It is centrally located to make everything convenient. I would recommend this rental to anyone with a family or anyone who needs some time alone. It is very quiet and private and listening to the sound of the falls from the deck is very soothing. The tranquility and peacefulness is wonderful. Thank you for taking my reservation on short notice considering I called the day before my arrival. I had an amazing time, however, it is never a long enough stay. I plan on moving to this area within the next three years.

My family just returned from a wonderful second stay at the Gingerbread Chalet! My husband and I have two children who just loved everything about the Gingerbread Chalet and its location in Fleetwood Falls. We had such a relaxing time fishing at the pond located a short walk up the road, taking hikes in the beautiful mountain scenery, and wading in the New River. We also took fun day trips to Tweetsie Railroad, Grandfather Mountain, panning for gold, and fishing for huge trout at the Trout Farm in Boone. This trip was also so special to our family because both sets of grandparents were able to drive up and join us for our vacation. The Gingerbread Chalet was so comfortable and had plenty of room for all of us to enjoy delicious dinners on the deck and exciting card games later in the evening. I would recommend this cabin to any couple looking for a romantic getaway or to any family who is ready for a vacation filled a myriad of activities for all ages to enjoy. The owner of this property was friendly and easy to work with. Payment was convenient as the owner was able to process the rental fee by credit card. My overall experience was excellent! We will definitely be returning for another visit to the Gingerbread Chalet next year!

The home is so nice and cozy, perfect for the mountain setting. The fireplace is wonderful on those cold winter evenings. Not too facy that you were afraid to put your feet up, but nice to allow a crowd of visitors to spread out. Nicely maintained, clean and well-kept. The owner is so nice and friendly, felt like I'd known her for years! Lots of great shopping in the area, beautiful scenery too.

My family returns to the Gingerbread nearly ever year and has never been disappointed. On the rare occasion that we've tried other places we've come back frustrated that we visited something new when we so love this place. The chalet is close enough to neighbors to let you feel secure but is more than secluded enough to allow for quiet privacy. Inside, the decor provides just enough of a 'woodsy' atmosphere to give you a feeling of being in a outlying mountain setting though all the while you're surrounded with every possible creature-comfort that makes a vacation enjoyable. Close by are activities for everyone - we have taken girls' trips for shopping and great dining, family trips for tubing, skiing and panning for gold, and anniversary getaways. Such an excellent choice all the way around!

You can curl right up to the cozy fireplace! Whether you are here in Summer or Winter- the scenery is breath taking!! There is so much to do if that is what you are looking for- or you can just relax and enjoy life with the beauty surrounding you! This chalet has everything you need and is so well-kept!! Definitely a 5 star by far!!!! You must visit!!! I can't wait to go back again!!! Kelly and Mark
