First trip to the Outer Banks, and it won't be our last. The Byrd Sanctuary offers a spacious, clean, beautifully decorated home suitable for couples or large family. The views are lovely especially from the ship's watch, a favorite spot for cocktails and sunsets. Short walk to the beach and many quaint shops and eateries a short drive away. . Not for the handicapped because of the many steps, but good exercize for the rest of us! One can easily buy some groceries and spend an entire week ( or two) here without even getting in your car. Loved it!!
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We hate to leave tomorrow! We love the house – so well furnished and equipped. I think October is perfect, hardly any traffic and so peaceful. We needed a good rest. Our favorite restaurants are the Blue Point Grille, & Colington Café. Great food. We enjoyed the walk into Duck and the beach. We drove down to Rodanthe to see the “Nights in Rodanthe” house. People were so nice. The wild ponies of Corolla aren’t very wild but the beach is gorgeous. Don’t miss the Wright Bros. Nat. Park in Kitty Hawk. Best of all for a bird watcher was the Pea Island Nature preserve. Beautiful birds and scenery. Forgot to mention – saw two red foxes come through the yards on Widgeon Drive. Life is good. ? Lynchburg, VA John called later and said "The home was truly five stars. Perfect."

We enjoyed our stay very much, and are sad to pack up and leave Duck, NC behind tomorrow. We had a fantastic week with beautiful weather (mid 80’s & sunny with no clouds every day!) (I know – you stole my favorite week. ? ) We enjoyed a short walk down to the beach with perfect waves for skim boarding, a nice drive on the beach in Corolla in our 4X4 vehicle (and saw many ponies on the beach!), and even went parasailing 1200 feet in the air (what an awesome view!) We also enjoyed many sunsets from the rooftop deck. Thanks for taking great care of your home, and for giving us the great opportunity of staying here. What a GREAT vacation! We look forward to many more OBX trips. Nutley, NJ

We ALL had a great time & thank you for keeping everything @ Byrd Sanctuary so clean & in order (?? Hard to read it.) It is always a wonderful place to spend a vacation. We had a fabulous vacation in Byrd Sanctuary. I love the light in the upper story, the upper deck, the well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, lovely color schemes in all rooms, and most especially, the hammock! God bless you. (Good idea! Yea!! For the price of a hammock!)

Many thanks, Bryan, for providing such a wonderful backdrop for our 3rd (!) year at Byrd Sanctuary. We’ve loved each year – this year was highlighted by a Jeep Tour of Corolla, hours of bliss on the beach & on the deck, and perhaps topped by the hours of entertainment provided by the wildlife! We watched a mama fox and her 4 – 5? babies out in the back (they were great fun, although the little ones gave me a bit of a fright when they snuck up to me by the hammock!) We also saw a buck, a coyote (I think), some bunnies and some lizards. None harmful and all as entertaining as could be!! We also enjoyed many hours of reading, game playing, napping, shopping, beaching, napping (oh, did I say that one already? It happened a lot! ?) Thanks again for everything – we love Byrd Sanctuary. Bryan, thanks again for sharing your home – everything was great – still looks new. This is our 18th? year and still loving Duck and The Outer Banks. (By my count it is their 20th – they missed one season because someone beat them to it, back in 1991. As a returning guest, they now get first pick for “their” week.) I have never rented a house in the Outer Banks before and so I went solely on the description of this property on Home Away. I am more than pleased to tell you that it was all that I expected and more. The house was clean and perfectly stocked in the kitchen with everything you would want or need. The location was perfect! It was a short walk to the ocean and views of the sound and ocean were visible from the deck. Bryan was great to work with as well. You do need to bring all that you will need to live.. including toilet paper in this case! Something we learned upon arrival. The town is lovely..great restaurants.. shopping etc. One caveat! Plenty of stair climbing in the home .. good exercise before relaxing on the beautiful deck with the sound of the ocean, the gentle breeze and the incredible stars at night.. Enjoy!
