LOOKING FOR an authentic Provencal village experience in fabulous surroundings? Why not spend a vacation in our exquisitely restored village house in the picturesque perched medieval village of Grambois?

You will be enchanted by this beautiful village of some 300 inhabitants (intra muros). It has changed little over the centuries and you will delight in the village square and fountain, the Romanesque Church and chateau, and the meandering, cobbled lanes of the village and fascinating nooks and crannies.

Grambois is so visually appealing and so traditional that it has featured in many publicity shoots and was the location for the film of Marcel Pagnol's book "La Gloire de Mon Pere". Indeed our house is glimpsed in some of the best shots of the village!

Our home, Chez Les Maryon, is a fully restored village house dating from the 13th century (and added onto over the centuries). It is an original, spacious and extremely comfortable home. It is perched on the ramparts (former fortifications) of this village, which is in the heart of the Luberon Regional Nature Park. We enjoy breathtaking and uninterrupted views over the Luberon Mountain range and the valley d'Aigues!

All the main facilities of the village are just minutes away on foot - the boulangerie, the village store, the cafe/bar, Post Office, local art gallery and doctor's surgery.

There are 3 luxury bedrooms each with its own bathroom and with Queen Size beds (160 cm)or twin beds if you prefer. The rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished and fine linens, towels, toiletries and hairdryers are supplied.

Cooks will enjoy the modern and fully equipped Provencal-style kitchen. All equipment and linens are provided and we leave you a starter pack of essentials, such as tea, coffee, milk, sugar, oil, wine, kitchen paper etc. As with all the rooms, there is a great view over the valley from the kitchen. A separate laundry and washroom is attached.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the comfortable and elegant salon which is furnished with antiques - a spot to relax or chat. Or you can enjoy the satellite LCD TV offering CNN, BBC, ITV and French programs. A DVD player and DVDs are also provided as well as reading material and tourist information.

The stunning 13th century vaulted dining room (table for 10) is reached by a short flight of stairs from the salon. As well as beautiful stonework it has an interesting collection of "objets d'art" from around the world.

On the first floor and facing directly on to the Luberon is a covered terrace/garden room with dining area and comfortable seating and lots of pots and plants. A truly wonderful spot - especially for contemplating the glorious sunsets, perhaps with a glass of local wine in your hand!

Air conditioning? Not needed! The 3 feet thick stone walls ensure our home remains fresh and cool in summer and snug and warm in winter.

Just across the lane from the house is our dear little hillside garden - a very simple and informal area to enjoy the views and to while away a few hours in perfect peace, or to casually lunch or dine.

Need to stay in touch with the outside world? We offer free local and long distance (landline only) phone calls and there is a free DSL connection to plug in your computer.

There is so much to see and do in the South Luberon! A myriad of cultural activities, especially during the summer months with dance, theatre and music festivals. Markets abound - or for more sophisticated shopping, visit the elegant towns of Aix en Provence or Isle sur la Sorgue (antiques capital of the South of France). Walkers and ramblers will be delighted with the possibilities to explore here - and walking trails start from the village itself.

Wine and eating opportunities are almost endless - there are excellent local vineyards where you will be welcome to taste the Luberon wines; and the world-famous vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Cote du Rhone are within an easy drive.

There are many restaurants in the area you will want to try - from casual to Michelin star standard - and all within a short driving distance.

And just an hour away are the many attractions of the Mediterranean ....

Swimming? Ten minutes away at the freshwater lake of Etang de la Bonde - with casual dining there too.

    • I have just returned from a wonderful stay at Chez Les Maryon. I couldn't have asked for quieter more charming home with beautiful views of the Luberon Valley. I enjoyed hiking around the quaint town, watching the goats play below the house, and meeting some of the friendly locals. I hope to return soon!
