Map & Owner's Profile
Year Purchased: 2001
Why the Owner Chose Bryson City
We purchased the lot that the cabin is built on because it has the most breathtaking view that we have ever seen. For years we stayed at many cabins in various mountain settings but none with as great a view as this one.
We also must include some friends, Ty & Sandy Nelson, into our reason for purchasing a lot in Bryson City, NC. Before we purchased this lot, we stayed at their rental cabin "Retreat in the Sky" and loved the area. They told us that the lot was for sale and gave us first choice to purchase. Thanks again Ty & Sandy for your unselfish gesture.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
The cabin is at the end of the a road, high on the mountain where you will experience a feeling of quietness and peace. There is a view of the sunset from the front deck and spa that words can not describe. If you need to get away from it all, then this is the place. Your only problem will be the reluctance to leave and go back to real world.
Owner's Map of Bryson City
My husband, Frank Mulkey, built Moutain High for me (Judy) as a retirement gift in 2001. He passed away in July 2009. I want to share our cabin with others in hopes that they will experience some of the same relaxing and peaceful moments that we enjoyed at Mountain High. We always felt very close to God and His creation when we looked out at the sunsets and mountain ranges from our cabin. I still enjoy the cabin with our children and grandchildren as well as friends. My daughter, Angie Mishoe, is currently helping me by handling the rentals for Mountain High.

We had a wonderful time, the cabin was absolutely everything the pictures show and more! The owners really did think of everything! Look for the helpful hints they have listed on the coffee table! We were blown away as to how cozy it really was and all the comforts of home! Absolutely looked forward to waking up, sitting up in the loft bedroom and seeing the morning light up the mountains! Every day was a little different, sometimes the mist would be covering parts of the mountains below and you felt like you were above the clouds, other days you could see everything! It was very clean, lots of towels, blankets, etc, well stocked with all you need, including bird seed! From there, the drives to what we wanted to do were pretty short: up to the Tail of the Dragon (twice), Cades Cove, the Biltmore, horseback riding, Nantahala Gorge, the train ride to the NOC, the hike up to Clingman's Dome (worth it!). The Frymont Inn was the best food in Bryson, we only tried 2 and the other (Iron Skillet) was not good. We grilled half the nights and had lunch or the other dinners out of town. We couldn't get the fire pit to work, but maybe user error? or it was low on propane. It wasn't high on our list, so I didn't call to find out. But the HOT TUB! now that did get used A LOT!!! We are now getting one for our house, with a TV in the corner, the same way. It was a life saver with my bad cold, I could not wait to get in there every night! Watching game 7 on the tube in the hot tub, with plastic cups holding our favorite drinks, was a wonderful way to spend our last night. It's heaven in the outskirts of a small rustic town, with plenty of things to do in surrounding areas. The fall colors were absolutely fabulous! We will be back!

Absolutly the best place and time we have had in years. This place was built as a home and with love. It made us feel like we were house sitting for someone. It is that much like a home and not a rental cabin. Only this home is located in one the best places around Bryson City and what a view. Really liked sitting on the large swing and just simply taking it all in. We needed that. It was nice being up and located away from other cabins, it is really private. We cannot wait to come back, and visit again. We will not be recommending this cabin to others, because we want to ensure open dates when we can rent it..............just kidding. Thanks for allowing us to stay here. We were blessed by the experience.

What a wonderful place to stay while enjoying the beautiful views and nature. Close to several waterfalls and a short drive from Catalooche to see the elk. Everything was clean, well-maintained and labelled so we knew which light switch to turn on and how to operate everything. Lots of books to read-I recommend the series by Dr. Walt Larimore written about his medical practice in Bryson Ciry in the early 1980s. We highly recommend this lodging to others and hope to return ourselves. The owner thought of everything you will need to enjoy your stay and provided detailed directions and a map to drive up to Mountain High- an apt name for such a beautiful location. The train ride was fun (we took the west route to NOC) and with it you get free admission into the train museum which has more trains than you can imagine. A definite must for any model train enthusiastist. We enjoyed meals at The Station, both Italian restuarants in Bryson City and the Maggie Valley Dinor on the way to see the elk. The hike up the path to Cllingman's Dome (off Route 441) was worth the effort.

We were looking for a cabin that would be a half way point to meet our best freinds from Illinois. Moutain High was 15 minutes difference in driving time according to Mapquest. This cabin is a peice of Heaven on Earth. Our long weekend could not have been better! The cabin was more than you can imagine. The quiet time, the view, everything was great! We live in a log home so this visit was like being home. Two of our grown children also came along and enjoyed it also. This is the first time I can remember in over 30 years of marriage that my wife said as was drove away from the cabin that she was not ready to go home. That says it all. God Bless the owners of this lovely place for sharing it with everyone. You will not find more pleasant folks to deal with anywhere. The morning we were heard an elk call. Memories are not only etched on our cameras but also in our minds. Thanks for everything. Nate, Cathy, Ethan, Sammi Rife Crescent City, Florida and Bill and Lynn Smock Rossville, Il.

We just spent our 31st anniversary at Mountain High. It was our best ever! The cabin was everything we had been told, and more. So beautiful & comforable. Watching the sunset from the deck was breathtaking. Watching the stars from the outdoor jacuzzi at night in total solitude made you want to stay and ponder the wonder of it all for hours. But even more spectacular was the amazing sight as you wake up and see the mountain peaks coming from the morning fog. It was an unforgetable weekend. I can't wait to go back. We have stayed in a lot of places and this, by far, was the one that had been touched by love!! Thank you Frank for allowing us to share your home. We visited Mountain High 9/30-10/3/2007. This place could truly be described as "heaven on earth". It was so peaceful and beautiful. From the moment you walk up on the deck and see the commanding view of the Smokey Mountains you are swept away to the most serene surroundings. The Mulkey's went beyond their responsibility to provide a place to stay. They provide so much more and we are happy that they are willing to share this special place with us.

It is impossible to find new ways to describe Mountain High because it defies superlatives. Our week on the mountain was as good as any week could be, and for anybody in search of the perfect mountain retreat--this is the place! In addition to the wonderful cabin, there were so many personal touches that we had the impression that the Mulkeys were old friends who wanted to do more than simply rent their cabin-- they wanted to share their treasure with us. And we thank them.

We had a great time at Mountain High. I was surprised to see everything you would find at home. Books, movies, magazines, games. We really felt at home. It was a little tricky bringing our 3 year old son with us. I was a mother hen making sure he did not get too close to the edge of the mountain and the fire pit outside. He loved the model train and watching the birds and squirrels eat. Thanks for a nice vacation. We will have great memories
