About this property

Romantic Lake Retreat- On beautiful, clear Lake Nantahala

Come to this beautiful, romantic mountain retreat right on crystal clear Nanatahala Lake. You will find yourself high in the treetops, watching the pines swaying in the wind, the Sourwood leaves turning red, and the lake below sparkling with sun. In winter, the mountain tops across the lake will shimmer with frost.

This is a perfect romantic get-a-way. Wake in the morning to the sun coming over the mountains shining across the lake. In fall, reds and yellows against the dark green on the mountainsides or right outside the window engulf you with the wonder of fall. In summer, be engulfed by Appalachian lushness. And take a short drive to take a short or long hike on the beautiful Appalachian Trail (including a scenic fire tower look-out). Sometimes the Smokey Mountain mist creates shining wonders before your eyes. Cook your favorite gourmet meals in our kitchen in full view of the lake. Basking in the dappled sun on the deck is always wonderful.

At night, build a fire and sink into comfort with a glass of wine or your favorite tea while moonlight plays on the mountains across the lake. Try some candlelight while soaking in our large comfortable oval tub. Or relax in our cozy private spa on the lower deck and watch the stars.

Take a swim in the clear waters below. Use our canoe or two kayaks or launch your own boat nearby and tie up at our dock. Spend evenings on the dock, gazing at the stars in the clear mountain air. Feel the gratitude of just being alive.

Stroll down our scenic, peaceful neighborhood lane, take a loop hike through the woods on primative roads or take the nearby hikes on the Appalachian Trail to a great look-out or Wayha, Wesser or Siler Balds. Watch the birds, try your luck in the nearby award-winning trout stream or look for rare fresh water salmon across the lake or just fish right off the dock. Explore one of the many bike routes or visit the famous Nantahala Outdoor Center for rafting, kayaking, biking and delicious food.

Smokey Mountain National Park invites you just an hour away, or you can visit the famous Biltmore House in Asheville. Take a scenic ride on the historic railway or try panning for gems. Do you like music? Vist Dolly Partan's village or attend free Friday night concerts at John Campbell Folk School, or the great bands playing riverside at NOC. On the other hand, just sitting on the deck in the tree tops gazing at the lake might be just the peace and solitude you need.

Come treat yourself and let us welcome you to our home. We think there is no place more beautiful! We hope you will agree.

In winter the boats can still be used from the beach and sun shines brightly through the leafless trees and reflects up from the lake through the many windows. At night build a warm fire or just enjoy games with family. Outside, all is quiet.

Not enough time!
We were there for a weekend to attend a wedding and therefore did not get to enjoy all that the house, and area had to offer. It is a beautiful area. The dogwoods were in full bloom, the air was so cool and fresh, and we were seranaded by the peepers every night. The house was very comfortable, with lots of natural light, and very spacious. We made good use of the massage chair, but didn’t get out on the lake, or in the hot tub. The dining room table is carved out of a tree trunk - and super cool. Definitely a happy place, and a lovely retreat. Next time I would like to stay for much longer!

Has everything you might want
This property is at the bottom of an interesting small, private, mountain road. The house itself had everything we could possibly have wanted for our week long stay. We were there from the 23rd through 30th. There was even a Christmas tree and decorations. We had Christmas dinner and cooked dinner almost every night. They have a pool table, and pinpong table, which kept my kids entertained every night. They have movies and games, but we brought our own because we are a big game night family. There is a massage chair upstairs that we all tried out once or twice, its nice if that is your thing. Bonus points for the snow fall the last day we were there, even though the forecast only showed it for a few hours, it snowed more than 24 hours!! I would recommend having a pickup truck or SUV because of the road leading to the house, other than that, everything was great and I would definitely recommend this lake house!

Beautiful views of the lake
When walking into the property, we were immediately taken with the beautiful views provided by open windows facing the lake. The property was well stocked with utensils, dishes, even spices! It was clean and comfortable. One note is that the master bedroom also has open glass doors lacking the privacy that we weren't expecting. I quickly resolved this by placing fitted sheets over the doors. We really enjoyed our stay and wish we had not been so busy with a wedding that we weren't able to enjoy the amenities. One note, is that the place is lacking on some basic esthetic upkeep. It desperation needs a coat of paint and some caulk! Some things looked like they were falling apart. The massage chair was a great feature after a long day. And overall, we really enjoyed our stay

Romantic anniversary
We stayed in this quiet home for our anniversary in September! It's located in such a peaceful neighborhood which is gated. The kitchen has all you need, including a drip coffee maker. The beds included the linens, as well as plenty of extra blankets. The bathroom is equipped with towels and a washer/dryer. There is a fireplace and wood was provided to get a cozy fire started. The owner shared that they are in the process of getting a new hot tub installed but there is a large garden tub to enjoy. There was plenty to do, such as board games and a ping pong table. The dock was equipped with 2 kayaks that we thoroughly enjoyed. The lake area is very quiet, hardly any boats which makes it feel private. Close to the home is a quaint restaurant called Lakes End. The ribs and sweet potatoes were delicious! The owner is quick to reply with any needs or questions. Thanks Jim for sharing your home. We hope to return in the near future.

AMAZING!
My family traveled to Topton, NC to attend a wedding at Nantahala Weddings and Events. This home is about a mile away from the venue and is LOVELY! Such a soft, place to land with a BREATHTAKING VIEW of the lake. Comfortable, clean and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

About the host

Host profile image
We are two retired college community college teachers from Wisconsin. We love to travel the world, enjoy participating in active sports like hiking, kayaking, sailing, and skiing. But also love reading, eating good food and just sitting peacefully admiring nature.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this lot with huge tall trees on a beautiful, pristine lake. We designed the house ourselves with lots of windows to be open to nature. We try to stay there whenever we can, but also like to share it with guests, even if we don't know them personally. So you are most welcome.

What makes this property unique

This house is a wilderness experience, high in the mountains, every room with a view of the gorgeous lake, and a unique chance to be in the branches of tall pines - but with all the luxury of home. We used to love camping in spots like this. Now we can enjoy comfortable beds, a modern kitchen and even a hot tub after a swim in the exceptionally clear lake. All in all . . this is heaven.
