We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. THe owner was very prompt with her replies to my questions and the home was clean and not cluttered. Entry level living space provided all the access my elderly mother needed: bedroom, full size bath with walk-in shower, kitchen, dining room, living area, fireplace, wall of windows to view the lake. The lower level was all about fun for my young daughters who enjoyed the full size Ping-Pong, air hockey, pool table. The gated community provided an appreciated but unnecessary extra feeling of safety. We managed to paddle the canoe to the large secluded waterfall across the lake. A real treat! We would definitely stay here again but next time we will stay longer and take a nearby white water rafting trip and zip line adventure.

This is our second stay here and this time was better than the first. Charming and quiet, we enjoyed our time together, the views, and all the many activities within easy driving distance. The house had everything ready and waiting. We'll be back.

There needs to be a better bed in the master room...It was terrible. Also, there wasn't a TV upstairs. There needs to be a TV upstairs so you don't have to go up and down the stairs especially for older people. But the biggest disappointment was the bed! Everything else was okay...good view...clean.

Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Owner response: We love the TV being downstairs, because by closing the door, the large living room and kitchen area can remain quiet for those just wanting to appreciate nature, iisten to music, enjoy the massage chair, or have a quiet dinner conversation. But for people who watch a lot of TV and also prefer not to climb stairs, it really would be better to find a different place. We want everyone who comes to be happy. (Most people like the bed, but we may add a pillow top, just in case.)

We had a great time with my husband’s parents and my two kids. Marilyn's instructions were great and simple to follow. We went to the sandy area across the lake using the canoe and the kayak. My husband fell off the canoe twice… but I don’t think he gave any mind as the water was really beautiful and surprisingly warm. We then rowed along to the deep cove and then did the small hike to the beautiful waterfall, with my two year old baby in hand. A bit risky with him in the canoe but he did really well as he loved keeping his hand in the crystal clear water. The hot tub was very relaxing and we made full use of it after the long day on the lake. My baby loved it and did not want to leave. We also lit the firewood upstairsand roasted marshmallows and made smores as my in-laws had never had those before. My 10 year old son had lots of fun on the pool table and air hockey and loved sleeping on the upper bunk bed. It was a great couple of days and I really wish we stayed a couple more nights. Marilyn thought of everything in the house and how to make your guests comfortable and relaxed. Again, everything was great and I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

Our two week stay at Lake Nantahala was wonderful. We swam in the crystal clear water, hiked local trails, and explored the lake by boat. There is a canoe and two kayaks at the house and the owner provided contact information for boat rentals in the area. We rented a pontoon boat, which we really enjoyed. We also ventured farther afield, visiting numerous area waterfalls and the Crane Creek Vineyard. Much of this information was included by the owner, but the Visitor Center in Franklin was also extremely helpful. My husband and I like to cook and the house had everything we needed to cook, plus a fantastic view of the lake from over the kitchen sink. We relaxed, played family board games, and enjoyed a complete break from video games and texting. We felt completely relaxed and recharged when we left. We will definitely repeat the experience. I will also use HomeAway again if we travel to other places.

Starting from the minute we walked in, we knew it was gonna be nice! The pictures online do not do it justice. Every room was very spacious. We loved the porches connected to the bedrooms. We had a blast with the ping pong table and air hockey. Now for the outside....Its the most beautiful lake ive ever seen. The water was crystal clear and an emerald green color. There are mountains on every side, with only a few houses. Very secluded, very private, very peaceful! We went all over the lake with the kayaks and canoe. There is very little traffic on the lake. We saw an occasional pontoon or a jet ski or 2 but most of the time it was just us. After the first day, my wife and I were already talking about coming back to stay again perhaps in the fall or next year. In other words, WE LOVED IT!!

This was my first experiece with vrbo.com, and it couldn't have gone better!! Marilyn is absolutely wonderful! The house is described perfectly, and I was more than impressed when we arrived. The house is beautiful and roomy, perfect for my family of 6, and was very equipped with things to do for small children. The view is amazing, and we loved more than anything, having kayaks and a canoe at our disposal. The area is perfect for hikes, and we were able to see some beautiful waterfalls! I'm very pleased with my experience, and would highly recommend this house to anyone!

Ideal location. Seclusion, but with a ton of activities in driving distance. We took the canoe out, swam, grilled, hiked some appalachain train, went to deep creek, bike riding in Tsali... house was a steal at this price! not a complaint. rooms are big, clean. will definitely book again next summer

Cath and I had such a fantastic time here in may 2011, the weather wasn't the best although the 1st day was windy it was bright and sunny and we got to canoe across the lake and found out we had muscles we didn't know existed. The house is one of the best we have stayed in in the US and the location is to die for even if the roads are abit windy and long to get to it. We had a bit if a problem with the downstairs electrics when we arrived but Marilyn quickly gave us some great pointers and we managed to fix the issue without any real inconvenience. The wifi worked brilliantly for us. The house was spotless and well presented when we arrived and the protection of a gate code was an added security benefit. We had a great day out, in the open top car we rented, driving to fonatana Dam, the highest east of the rockies!, through the nantahala gorge, the outdoor centre on the way was great for a coffee and people watching if a bit on the younger side than ourselves. Wish we could get access to places like nantahala as cheaply over here in the uk but just being on a road trip in the US is fun in itself and I would recomend natahala lake and this house to anyone. Even though its only a couple of weeks since we were there it seems a lifetime away and we miss the peace and tranquility of it all. Our thanks go to Marilyn for allowing us to visit the house it was such a privilege we will remember for a long time to come.

We had a great Memorial Day weekend here. The house and location really caters to relaxation and the outdoor enthusiast. I love all the trees around the house and the short wooded trail leading down to the dock. The house is snuggled nicely into its surroundings and they've really made a point to preserve the natural setting (unlike some other houses that cut down much of the natural beauty around them). The house itself was clean and well appointed with every amenity (spacious living room, fireplace, nice beds and bedrooms, two full bathrooms, complete kitchen, grill, deck, hot tub, ping-pong / air hockey / pool tables.. TV..etc.). We had nice leisurely paddles out on the lake with the kayaks and canoe (the sit-on-top kayaks are great for exploring the various coves and banks around the lake). And the private dock is perfect for swimming (water was surprisingly mild) and also just relaxing in reclining chairs on the dock.. taking in the lake and fantastic mountain views. Grilled out dinner on the deck.. relaxed in the hot-tub in the evening..etc Great spot.. we didn't want to leave :) Would definitely go back here.

My wife and two friends and I stayed here over the Halloween weekend, 2009, and it was fabulous. It was unfortunate that the weather wasn't the best the entire three nights we spent there, but the house amenities made up for that. We did get a chance to take the canoe out on a warm, sunny Saturday, and we used the owner's notes to guide us around to see the various streams and watefalls. This is a great place for a group, or even better for a romantic getaway for two since it is right on the lake, and the views cannot be beat! I would definitiely return to this home in the future.

This was the perfect house for our family. It was clean, well maintained and the ideal setup for grandparents, parents and two kids. We all enjoyed the view; the area was beautiful. We all also enjoyed taking the canoe and kayaks out onto the lake - especially since it was a short walk out the back door. We would definitely recommend this property!

We spent a week of our daughter's spring break in this house. We have been going to Lake Nantahala since we were both children (at least 25 years). This house is wonderful. It is neat, clean, up-to-date and has a wonderful open floor plan with many, many fantastic amenities. We took our own boat and could tie it up at the private dock. It was one of the best vacations we have had in a while and this house truly contributed to that. We are certain to stay again many, many more times in the future - we plan to every year now. Thanks Marilyn for sharing your awesome lake house with us.
