Cottage by the Bay - Secluded, Romantic, Private, on the Water
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
This romantic cottage located on historic 'Ark Row', has a quiet, peaceful setting with a lovely view across the bay. The cottage itself is located in town on its own private dock over the water. It is not "near" the water, nor does it simply have a "view of" the water. Drop a pebble from the dock and is splashes into the water. Read or write, dine or observe a parade of maritime life: sailboats, diving Pelicans, and curious seals. Though ten minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge and 15 minutes to downtown San Francisco, you will be in your own secluded world.
Throughout Marin County there are fabulous biking and hiking trails with kayak and boat rentals available in Sausalito. The mini environment of maritime Sausaiito has long been recognized as the most temperate weather in the Bay Area - cool in summer and characteristically fog free most of the year.
Available for long or short term rental, historic waterfront " ARK" (House on a dock.)
ALL THIS FOR AN ATTRACTIVE $2,750 / MONTH $175 / NIGHT

My mother booked this cottage when she came out for the birth of my baby girl and it was the perfect retreat for both her to get away and us to visit during the day! The space is warm and inviting with sunny butter yellow walls and tasteful artwork that made it feel like home. The sun warms it during the day and a space heater keeps it perfectly comfortable and cozy at night. The bath is a nice size for the space with enough room to get dressed in. We loved sitting on the deck to enjoy morning coffee or afternoon tea as we watched the tide ebb and flow. It is perfect for nature lovers who could spend hours watching the seals surface and water birds hunt for food. As you are right on the water, the lapping of the water on the shore is pretty relaxing as well! In the evening we found ourselves drawn to the deck again to to watch the sun set and turn the harbor and hillsides brilliant shades of pink and orange. The location is ideal as it is on the flats of town closer to where the locals go to eat and shop so walking is easy. Bar Bocce is right next door and offers outdoor heat lamps, a fire pit, a bocce court and great pizza! Across the street is Cibo that serves light breakfast and lunch fare and delicious artisian coffee also with outdoor seating. As well you are near great restaurant options on Caledoina St. that include a new organic small plates in a bistro setting. The only comments my mother had was that she would have liked to have one comfortable reading chair since the setting makes you want to settle in and stay a while- Marion said she would look into this. As well just a few more amenities for the kitchen like a few more glasses, plates, mugs and table linens in case one is prompted to invite guests over to enjoy the cottage! Overall great experience and my mother will be back to make this home her home while visiting Sausalito! Marion, the proprietor is a lovely lady who lives on site so is available for any needs you have.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We found the cottage a little small but very clean and well appointed. We enjoyed the view of the bay and mountains. Location of cottage was great - we were able to walk to everything in town. The only negative was the lack of internet hook-up - even though the site stated there was dail up. We were never able to us our laptop.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

I had an opportunity to sneak away with my g/friend for a mini romantic vacation to Sausalito this past long w/e and our trip was a great success due to Marion's very charming House Boat "cottage". Eccletically furnished, clean, secluded, safe and indeed so charming it's a cool "hide out" where we enjoyed many early morning's rise to bright Sausalito sunshine, while sipping hot "java" along with toasted croissants on the deck, watching the Stand Up Paddlers steer their way thru the many magnificent yachts anchored out in the Bay. Spectacular nite skies, safe, quiet and easily accessible to nearby "Route 101", yet quite close enough to many unique Sausalito "eateries" (Angelino's) and some very cool boutiques. If you're genuinely interested in "sneaking away" from the stereo typical accomodations, we'd highly recommend booking your mini vacation here for a safe, romantic, and charming get-away "pour deux". It served us very well as a great take-off point in seeing the San Fran "sites", Sausalito and of course, the nearby Napa-Sonoma vineyards as well ! Good Luck, Marion, with your Sausalito House Boat "cottage", albeit we doubt you'll ever need any ! This is a charming studio on the water in the heart of town. The unit is clean, cheery, comfortable, sunny & bright. A slider opens onto the deck looking directly at the bay. We loved the big sunny deck. The floors in the cottage are an attractive wide plank knotty pine. The shower had plenty of force & hot water. There is a window in the bathroom. The kitchen has a sm. refrigerator, sink & microwave. With so many restaurants within walking distance, there was no need to cook. We found the surroundings to be quiet, safe & never saw any neighbors. There is bar a few doors away with a bocci court. We heard laughter one night but it stopped by 9PM. The TV is old & only gets 3 channels. But with everything within walking distance in this lovely town, there was no time for TV. This cottage exceeded our expectations and is a better choice than a hotel room. We look forward to returning.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

While the cottage is quaint, there are a number of things you should be aware of before renting this property. 1) It does not have its' own private dock. It shares a dock with the cottage directly behind it. They each have separate entrances, but the deck/outdoor sitting area for the cottage behind this one is literally about 10' from the door to this cottage. While our neighbors were quite pleasant and we were all very considerate of each other, I wouldn't describe this property as secluded nor private. 2) There is a bar approximately 2 doors from the cottage. Patrons hang out on the waterfront side of the establishment and there was considerable noise from the establishment every night we were there until after 11:00 p.m.. Luckily it was quite cool so we kept the patio doors closed or the noise would have been extremely aggravating. 3) The cottage was relatively clean. However, above the shower stall in the bathroom there was mildew and peeling paint on the ceiling. 4) The kitchen is described as "full". There is no oven and it is sparsely supplied. No dish cloth nor dish towels provided. Only one frying pan and one small pot is provided, no food storage containers and few cooking utensils. The refrigerator is a mini. This was very disappointing as we were staying a full week and had hoped to cook many of our meals there. 5) There were ZERO instructions from the owner as to trash/recyclables disposal, cosing the property upon departure, etc. 6) Be very clear on your terms and get them in writing from the owner. We agreed on terms in March for an August week long stay, daily rate agreed to was as indicated in the VRBO listing. In a separate phone and follow-up e-mail, we were told that included "everything" and that there was no cleaning fee. Upon arranging for payment of the balance, the owner indicated that the rate was going to be $10 more/night than what we had agreed to and explained the reasoning as August is the busy summer month. In addition, she indicated that she wanted to charge a cleaning fee due to "recent bad experiences". It took several e-mails and re-sending earlier e-mails that clearly outlined our agreed upon terms before the owner agreed to the original terms. This was extremely frustrating. I would suggest requesting a written contract. Luckily I keep my e-mails. Overall, I think the cottage is "over sold" given its' proximity to the bar and rear cottage.Owner response: This guest wanted to pay for her visit a month after leaving, became angry when I could not agree to that arrangement. She was not charged a cleaning fee, or any additional amount. Her e-mails made clear this lady would be very hard to please. Unfortunately I had already received her deposit or I would rather not have her as guest,

This unique cottage on the waterfront was so much better than staying in a hotel! We were able to park right at the gate which led to a private walkway back to the cottage, which we found to be cozy, clean & nicely decorated. We loved sitting on the deck each morning of our 5 night stay, drinking coffee & watching the sea birds hunt for treasured morsels as the tide slowly came in. What a relaxing way to start the day before walking to a Sausalito restaurant for breakfast or the SF ferry. There are many types of restaurants & shops within easy walking distance. The 101 freeway is also nearby, so the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Mill Valley, Muir Woods & Tiburon are all a short drive away. This cottage is the perfect rental for a couple. The owner was responsive & easy to deal with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, age 55+.
