  We just spent 8 days here and it exceeded all of our expectations. The positive reviews are not exaggerating. The cottage is simple and rustic as described - Maine-ish or like Old Hawaii, which we loved. It's completely appointed with everything we could have needed and more. The linens are fresh and clean and the bed very comfortable. The proximity to amazing north shore beaches and Hanalei make it convenient for everything, but how wonderful to return home each day. We loved grilling and then eating out on the lawn by the exquisite and quiet beach. Our only argument for 8 days was who got to go in the outdoor shower first. Deborah, the property manager, could not have been more gracious. We will never stay anywhere else. Thank you, Deborah for giving us a wonderful vacation.

  We just returned from a 9 night stay at Anini Lani Kai. What a wonderful, peaceful vacation! The property is beautiful, the house quaint and the property manager was great. It is truly a bit of "old Hawaii" located on the water at quiet Anini Beach. We watched gorgeous sunrises and sunsets every day, swam, snorkeled and kayaked from the from yard (we borrowed a friend's kayak), and viewed turtles and dolphins. The house, yard and views are just as they appear in the listing photos; no disappointments! We can't wait to go back.

  There are only positive words to describe our experience at Anini Lani Kai. The cottage is right on the beach with a wonderful sized back yard for relaxing. The ocean is always calm because of the large reef around it. The cottage is a great size for 2 people. My husband and I stayed there right after we got married and it was perfect for the two of us. The house in and of itself is relaxing. Nice to have a full size kitchen too! Deborah, the property manager, was so sweet, personable and helpful. It's so nice to know that she was just a phone call or email away if we needed anything. She's really taken care of the home and is very knowlegable and helpful with everything. She even set up a little special welcome surprise for us in the house that was unexpected and something I haven't forgotten to this day. Staying at this house made the days after our wedding very special for us. We couldn't have asked for more.

  This is a piece of heaven. A comfortable and well appointed little house with only a lovely lawn and big shade trees between you and one of the best swimming beaches on Kauai. You immediately feel like you live here....and you do .....for your time in this special place. If you want to shop at local farmers markets, lie in bed and watch the ocean, swim and snorkel out your front door, read while lounging in the shade of beautiful big trees at the edge of the beach, and do your share of nothing, you will love it here. We are planning our next visit, and were surprised to read a negative review by some "honeymooners". It was so far from our personal experiences there that we were motivated to finally write a review (we've been going there twice a year for many years). Deborah (the property manager) is a delight and totally unobtrusive. Anini Lani Kai is a perfect getaway for a couple or even three people who enjoy a simple paradise.

  This is an extraordinary property to visit. We have been returning for years. The view from the master bedroom of ocean and trees is absolutely sublime. To be able to walk out your back door, almost right onto the beach is such a luxury. The cottage is old but we like that - it feels like Old Hawaii, think "The Descendents". The cottage is also always immaculately clean. Deborah, the caretaker, does a stellar job. She is immediately responsive to whatever requests one might make and is an easy going, likeable person as well. We always return from staying at this property refreshed and revitalized. This place is a find!

  Anini Lani Kai is pure paradise. We absolutely loved our stay there and cannot wait to return, which we plan on doing year-after-year until we can afford our own house on the pristine Anini beach. Deborah Jacintho, the property manager, was so lovely and accommodating. The house was spotless and perfect for us (a couple). It's not suitable for more than three people max and it says so in the description. The house is literally 45 ft from the pristine Anini beach, which is protected by a reef, making it swimable all year round perfect for small children and people who may be intimidated by the big waves on the north shore. I would say that the outdoor shower was one of the highlights of the entire stay. We would wake up with the sunrise, which you can see from the master bed, snorkle, walk the beach and then take an amazing hot shower in the outdoor shower before spending our day lounging on the perfectly manicured grounds. Please be aware that Anini beach community is a very small and quiet community of mostly local residents. This is NOT the place to come if you want to be loud, party all night or are looking for nightlife or casinos. The neighborhood expects respect and privacy and they deserve it. Please do not expect to come here with 20 guests and throw a huge party. It's not that kind of place. Come here if you want privacy, peace and quiet, rainbows, romance, a perfect beach and a get away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. Anini Lani Kai is pure magic! Also, disregard any negative reviews from people who are unable to read the description and expect the mainland selfishness to carry over to Kauai. Those sorts of people should stick with LA or Vegas.

  Anini Lani Kai is truly a tropical escape to peace and beauty. The hale is comfortable and really gives you the feel of "old time" Kauai. Away from the hustle and bustle, secluded and cozy. Besides the wonderful house and beach, I might add that the aloha begins with the booking. The property manager is so very helpful and thoughtful. She provides you with information about the local ammenties, such as the farmer's markets, and suggests local restaurants, like the wonderful fish market in Kiluea. I find her throughness and thoughtfulness one of the compeling reasons for returning again and again to Anini Lani Kai.

  We stayed here for two weeks on our honeymoon. We expected privacy and seclusion. The property is beautiful, with a great little house that provided us with all the comforts of home. Our family who came by to see us also loved the property and wanted to rent it out for themselves at a later date. The PROBLEM with this property is the property manager who was a pest. She was on the property EVERY DAY without calling us to ask if it was a good time. I feel terrible complaining about this because she was so very nice, personable and also compliant with our special requests. Unfortunately there was this issue of us feeling violated! She was walking the property with other people that she brought with her as well! On more than one occasion she came over, and was in and out of the garage, picking fruit off of the trees, wondering around the beach/property showing it to perspective clients. EVERY SINGLE DAY something! At any given moment we would find her AGAIN on the property doing who knows what random thing. Again I want to say that this was without a phone call to say she would be stopping by. We rented this property with expectations of total privacy and relaxation. That was NOT at all what our vacation turned out be. I am VERY disappointed at the amount of money we wasted on trying to escape. We would have loved to stay at this property again and again and so would have our family and friends, but that will NOT be happening. The roosters aren't the pesky problem on this property.

  Owner response: I am in the process of contacting VRBO regarding this review. I have managed this property for years and have never had a problem with a guest. This guest reserved the cottage for their honeymoon. They arrived with 4 people, (after signing a contract for 2 people) planned an extravagant wedding with 2 tents WITHOUT PERMISSION. I was charged for excessive cleaning when they checked out. I was on the property a few times, not everyday, with good reason, which I will dicuss personally with anyone who is interested in the property. Please e-mail or call with any questions.   This cozy cottage is the perfect get away for anyone who is looking for the privacy of a huge beautifully maintained yard and direct access to a lovely beach. We stayed 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute. The beach is exactly a mile long and we walked and ran it every morning. The house was stocked with everything we needed to lounge on the beach, play in the water or dine in the yard. We utilized the gas bbq and even enjoyed some margaritas made by the awesome blender. Deborah was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed. If you rent this property anytime from January to April make sure you pack your binoculars as the whale and wave watching right in front of the cabin is amazing. Thank you sooooooo much for making this property perfect and our holiday one to remember.

  My husband and I stayed here for 6 incredibly restful nights in March 2011. We had been searching for a place that would give us privacy, comfort, and a quiet part of the ocean due to my physical limitations; we got all that and more. The cottage was very cozy and the kitchen perfect for all our cooking needs. There was an extra bedroom that we didn't use but we could see how this accommodation would fit a total of three people very well. But we were glad to have the spot to ourselves; it was like a second honeymoon! The view from the bedroom is almost good enough to just stay inside; but we spent hours outside, whether it was reading on the chaises in the sunny and lovely yard, snorkeling in the calm waters of Anini Beach (protected by a reef), or enjoying the outside shower! The beach is literally across the lawn. Although there is a public beach further east, few people walked our way, so it truly felt like "our" beach! The comfort of the cottage and accessibility of beautiful greenery and ocean made this a haven for us. We will gladly return some day.
