We so enjoyed our stay at Rainbow Rock Ranch. We usually come in the summer but we wanted to test the winter weather. It was pretty nice, some rain but still had sunshine. Perhaps we can retire here some day. We will be back in the summer now that we have found our new home away from home. Thank you for your generous hospitality.

My wife and I have spent nearly a dozen vacations on the southern Oregon Coast including one summer when we took our entire extended family of 12 for 2 weeks. All of these vacations have been wonderful! So to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary we naturally chose to spend it there on the coast as well. While looking through the many vacation listings for the area we discovered Rainbow Rock House and were immediately captured by the beautiful pictures of the property. Rainbow Rock Ranch proved itself to be everything the pictures imply and so much more! The guest house which is separate from the main house is incredibly roomy especially for two people but I would say it would be equally enjoyable for 4 or even 6 people. The property is located just outside of town in the forest overlooking the ocean. It is just far enough off the beaten path of the traffic of town and Hwy 101 to provide an exceptionally serene and tranquil setting while at the same time being within convenient driving distance to town. The house is furnished with a large collection of movies and books as well as televisions, telephone, stereo, high speed internet and a ping pong table. There is even a lighted private picnic area in the woods below the guest house with swings and a stream with a waterfall. The horses and the collection of birds in the aviary lend even more to the incredible ambiance of this remarkable vacation rental. The owners who live in the main house are exceptional hosts being friendly and courteous as well as respectful of their guest’s privacy. And, having lived in the area for quite some time they are extremely knowledgeable and happy to share suggestions for all manner of recreation and entertainment. My wife and I have no trouble at all rating this amazing vacation home with 5 big stars!

Rainbow Rock Ranch guest home's setting is very picturesque although the ocean view is a peek-a-boo. The home and grounds are very well maintained. It was relaxing and peaceful. The home is spacious and we found it very clean and well-stocked. The beds are all comfortable. It was fun watching the different birds in the aviary and sometimes Rodney let the peacocks out and they seem very tame. This home is centrally located for trips to the various nearbye beaches and attractions. The weather during our stay was fabulous. Sunny, windless with most days in the high 70's! It made for a lot of outdoor activities. We were not disappointed in the least with this property. Rodney was a great host and we would return and stay here again.

We wanted to thank you for the use of your guest house. The house was magical. The Birds and Horses were awesone to look at, the kids really loved them. The beds felt like home, once we layed our heads down, it was hard to get up. The kids were able to play the board game sorry with us and it was good, we were able to bond and relax without destractions of homelife. We definetly will return to stay longer and enjoy the property a little more. Thanks again for an amazing vacation.

Great location away from the tourist in town. Convenient to highway 101 and Harris State Park. Bathrooms and linens were clean but otherwise house showed signs of dog. Dog hairs on carpet. House is advertised as "no dogs" but not so. If you love peacocks you will love this house but if you don't and the noise bothers you, rent someplace else. There is no attention to detail. Missing toilet items and trash bags. All literature is out of date. Positive is the house is roomy, in a lovely setting with no traffic noise. Owner is also very nice.

Owner response:The comments made in this review just are not true. On the fifth day of there stay they were up north, parked in a seclude beach turn out. Got there car broken into, wallet, money,navigation system, credit cards were all stolen.They spent the last couple of days of there stay, filing police reports, cancelling credit cards, having there window fixed. Needless to say they were not happy. I guess I am the one they will vent there frustrations out on.

Our family loved our stay here. The house was beautiful, the upstairs loft was very peaceful and relaxing. Our kids like looking at the peacocks, birds, and horses. The creek path and swing set is a magical place. The only downside was having to buy drinking water which we didn't know about ahead of time. We also had a great time playing ping pong in the garage. We will be back for sure!

Oh, the sunsets from the porch on the swing, from down by the creek, under the canopy of trees, and from Harris Beach. Your property was just like it was represented on VRBO website. It was my first visit to the Oregon coast and I will return in the near future. It's an easy drive up from Sonoma. I thank you also for your hospitality. The aroma of the murtlewood grove at Loeb State park and the beauty of the Chetco river it was very much worth the short drive there. Golf at Salmon run was beautiful and challenging and your steakhouse is exceptional and your staff friendly. I'll return soon and hope that your guest house is available when I do. Our 4th summer at Rainbow Rock Ranch was again a blessing! It was a bit different this year with the coastal fog all day and cooler temps. But we still loved staying here, away from the busy life in southern Calif. & heat. We both send our thanks for the wine and salmon. You're so thoughtful. The time seemed so short....as always. The house is gorgeous and the location is picturesque. It sounded like we'd have a better view of the ocean, but the trees blocked the water. No matter, it's only a few minutes away. However, the bird aviary also features a number of roosters the sing their beautiful song throughout most of the night and the day. We also ended up needing to leave a day early and despite a understanding with the owner, did not receive a full refund as we were told we would. We were out by the requested time and left the house in perfect order. His website does not explain his return policy, and after conversation with him at the property, our understanding was that we would receive our full refund. Instead, after two weeks of hearing nothing, we had to call the owners. We received half back a few days later and were told we should feel fortunate to receive anything. I felt completely unappreciated and devalued. I would not recommend staying in this location to anyone I know because of how we were treated by the owners.

Owner response:On the third day of there stay, I recieved a phone call telling me that they would not be staying the third night. They expected a full refund because they didn't use the place that night. I explained to them you can't cancell the day of your stay and expect a refund. I voluntarily gave them a 50% refund. And then they had the nerve to call me up and wanted to argue about it.

We had a wonderful time here! It was really fun watching the squirrels and birds in the morning. We enjoyed watching the horses and birds. We enjoyed a wonderful week at Rainbow Rock Ranch! I miss it already. The guest house was perfect. We loved sitting on the porch on the log swing and rocking chairs, and watching the birds and squirrels, with an ocean view beyond the pines and cedars. My granddaughters had a lot of fun exploring the property, feeding the horses, and visiting the border collie. We all enjoyed the wide variety of games, books, and movies. Everything in the guest home was super-clean and super-comfortable, with new kitchen and bathroom fixtures (and wifi!!!). The entire property was stunning and well-maintained. Rodney was gracious and helpful with suggestions. For meals and in the evenings, Rainbow Rock was a great place to return to after excursions to the beach, redwoods, harbor, and other attractions. I hope we can come back many times and recommend it to others. Thank you for a great week!!

It was truly a fabulous stay over the new years holiday. We wanted to get away for a quiet, relaxing holiday and it was unbelievable. The horses and the peacocks, the waterfall, it was great. We have been looking forward for a long time to coming here, and we were not dissapointed. We enjoyed our time here and are taking home some good memories. Our kids enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels and feeding the horses. We haven't been to this part of the Oregon coast so we enjoyed playing on the beaches. We wanted to try out the mail boats and Stoute grove like you recommened, but unfortunatly our youngest was sick for a few days and we had to change those plans. My daughter & I came for some nice downtime. We definitly got what we bargained for. This place is so quiet compared to our fast city life. Our stay was wonderful and we definitly felt right at home. We've just returned from our second stay at the Rainbow Rock Ranch. In our initial stay we noted that the guest house is beautifully maintained, spacious and well equipped, and has a nice homey feel to it. We hosted a barbeque with relatives in the area on both trips, and the large front porch and grounds make for a terrific place to entertain. Plus, the expansive view of the mountains and ocean can't be beat! Our daughters were enchanted by the aviary, loved collecting real peacock feathers and exploring the creek. The owners now have two horses on the ranch, River and Lady, and we were all excited to pet and help feed them. Then there was the thrill of picking wild blackberries, riding the currents in the Smith and Chetco Rivers, playing seaweed baseball on the beach, and enjoying local shops and restaurants. My husband thoroughly enjoyed golfing at Salmon River Run, and there's a Curves nearby for members with a travel pass! Go check out Fern Canyon too, it's a magical place where parts of Jurassic Park were filmed! The Minniers are terrific owners, and we highly recommend a stay at the Rainbow Rock Ranch! There's lots to do in the area, but if you're looking for some R&R, you'll get plenty of that too in this beautiful setting.
