Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2001

Howdy, My name is Victoria Martinez Nichols, President and Founder of Casita de Cruzita. I am a proud Aggie Mom and an AT&T retiree. My former Aggie and Marine son, Andy Valadez graduated from Texas A&M University in 1993 in Marketing. Andy has been instrumental in assisting me in my business venture in having the first vacation rental home in Aggieland on February 24, 2006. My husband, Marcos and I have put a lot of hard "work with love" in my historic home for others to enjoy and appreciate the little things you might forget when leaving home.

I'm a big supporter of Texas A&M University Alumnus, donating to the Aggie Moms Club, MHMR, Hispanic Forum of B/CS, Champion Kids Camp in Alvin, etc. I graduated in 1964 at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, Texas and was the first grandmother in my 20th Class Reunion at the age of 37. I am now a great grandmother and enjoying life to the fullest. I was a long distance and directory assistance operator for General Telephone Co. in Bryan for 8 1/2 years before moving to Austin in 1976. This year, 2009 I was a nominee for the Hispanic Owned Business of the Year with The Hispanic Forum of Bryan/College Station.

I love to travel nationwide and stay at vacation rental properties with my family or friends. "I can tell you one thing, I haven't yet found a home that has more amenities than Casita de Cruzita." I love to pamper my guests for I care. That's a fact and not a brag! Marcos and I welcome you to Casita de Cruzita-a history of family and friends--Su Casa Tambien. I promise you a memorable stay!

Why the Owner Chose College Station

I have taken ownership of our family (The Martinez) home of 53 years after my retirement with AT&T in Denver, Colorado in 2001. The business became my dream to have the best well-equipped, comfortable, and enjoyable vacation rental home in Aggieland. Families or friends traveling together can share the cost of lodging and cooking their own meals to avoid the cost of dining out. Guests have their own private domain without an innkeeper.

I named and dedicated this home 'Casita de Cruzita' after my late mom, Cruz Alonzo Martinez. She was selected as 'Mother of the Year for Brazos County' in 1978 for her familial dedication in rearing 27 children (16 of her own). Our family was one of the first Hispanic settlers in town. The home always welcomed friends and family with hot food on the stove to include beans, pappas, and carne guisada or other Mexican cuisine with homemade tortillas and hot chili salsa.

Across the street in front of the home lived the famous Movie Director and Producer, Allen Coulter of the Sopranos on HBO, Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, etc. We went to the same school together and Allen's Dad, Frank Coulter was my Choir Director teacher.

The Unique Benefits of this Historic House

I love and enjoy staying in my childhood historic home. Casita de Cruzita's impact in the community is growing evey year, gaining in beauty, prestige, and allure. Just like the rare St. Joseph Amaryllis that grace the property and planted by my mom decades ago. Each year they bloom and add to the mystique of this home. It shows my mom's love to her family and dedication to the community and the Texas Aggies. Many fond memories are made in this house. If these old walls could only talk!

"Victoria, You have a beautiful home, a perfect place to stay for our oldest grandson's graduation from Texas A&M. It was very comfortable for a small gathering family and friends after the ceremony. Your kitchen is better stocked than mine! All of our dinner meals for the week, came from your 1987 All American Cookbook. What a treasure of comfort foods!! Thank you for your kindness."

"Victoria, We had a wonderful time celebrating our son's wedding and the use of your beautiful home made it even more special. We had a truly marvelous stay in College Station and your wonderful home was an ideal place for all of us. I think my wife's reaction every day we were there was "I just can't believe how well equipped this is." It was especially nice to be able to invite people to come to us to meet in a home environment - something which would have been lacking had we stayed at a hotel. I hope one day we will be able to visit again. Thank you so much."

"Victoria, The Casita was perfect for our graduation celebration. We held an "open house" all day Friday before my daughter's ceremony. Many friends and relatives visited and enjoyed great catered Mexican food from Mi Cocina. We had a few overnight guests as well, and they were very comfortable. Everyone complimented the decor and special touches around the home. We will certainly recommend it to our Aggie friends and other potential visitors to College Station."
