“Smawlie” is the name our 4 year old son gave this cozy Log Cabin in 2006. We love sharing our second home and the mountains of Western North Carolina. The property has been in our family for generations! In fact, my mother was raised in these mountains when there was no running water or electricity. A lot has changed since then! This is a state of the art modern log home built with the utmost detail and comfort in mind.

Nestled into the mountainside and bordering the Nantahala National Forest, this new Log Cabin is the perfect weekend getaway! We love to just sit on the deck and listen to the wind in the trees, but when we get bored of that we head to the Nantahala River Gorge to try out some white water rafting, or go fishing on Nantahala Lake. If adventure isn't your game - "Smawlie" is set on a 5 acre lot - so you’ll experience peace and solitude just sitting on the deck listening to the wind in the trees.

Each morning, the mountains transform into a world of color and surprise. Don’t be surprised if you spot a family of deer while eating breakfast. Try fishing Lake Nantahala - the highest elevation lake east of the Mississippi or just take a stroll and make a leaf collection of Laurel, Oak, Pine, Sassafras, Maple, and Birch trees.

The quaint towns of Andrews and Murphy are just a short drive away in case you don’t want to cook your own meals or you need to run to the store for some last minute thing. Area activities include: whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, hunting, mountain climbing, swimming, fishing, boating, and golfing. Bring a favorite DVD to watch if it rains - or you can enjoy a few that we've left for you.

At only $100 per night we feel like the "Smawlie" is a great deal! It's completely stocked with everything you'd find at home, just bring your own toothbrush and if you drink coffee bring your own filters.

  • Cell Phone: If you have Verizon you'll be able to have limited reception in the mountains. There are a couple hot spots to make calls - but at the cabin you're nice and secluded! No one will be able to call you about work! You're on vacation right?
• Suitability
  • No Pets Allowed: I'd recommend you don't take animals with you to the mountains. There are snakes, bears, deer, critters that tend to spook house trained animals. That is why we won't allow them at our cabin - for their protection.
  • Kid Friendly: Let them explore - let them get dirty - let them have fun! That's what it's all about in the mountains.
  • Smoking Not Allowed: Absolutely no smoking!
