Double Cabin on Beautiful Embden Lake - Great for Two Families
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This property is actually two adjoining cabins just 25 feet from beautiful Embden Lake. It is a great way to share a vacation with friends or family, maintain some privacy and avoid having to pay full price for two separate cabins. The cabins are connected by an adjoining door. The adults can share a dinner on the porch while the kids enjoy a movie in the other cabin. No smoking inside, but please feel free to smoke on the porch.
The cabins are mirror images of each other, but one cabin has a deck and the other has a great screened porch with sofa, chairs and a large picnic table. Each cabin has two bedrooms and a loft. The bedrooms have three double beds and one queen. The lofts have three double beds and a futon. Each cabin has a fully-equipped kitchen, living room and bathroom. Both cabins are comfortably furnished in traditional Maine camp decor - see photos in attached website link. Linens and towels are provided at no extra charge. See list of amenities below to save some packing time.
Embden Lake is a crystal clear, spring-fed pond- great for swimming. We have our own private swimming platform and there are also a common swimming dock and beach just a stone's throw from the cabins. We also share a playground with swings, slides, etc.
There are many opportunities for day hikes including waterfalls, amazing vistas and a nearby site where you can view 2,000 year-old petroglyphs. Moosehead Lake and the town of Greenville are only one hour away. There are several antique stores, restaurants and unique shops en route and in the town proper.
We highly recommend stopping at Spring Creek BBQ in Monson on this roadtrip for the best pulled pork sandwiches in New England. Do not miss Lakewood Theater, just a few miles from the cabins. Here you can step back over 100 years in time to enjoy dinner and a play or children's theater at America's oldest summer theater. There is also a golf course. Check links FMI on Lakewood's scheduled plays for this season.

This place is huge and so incredibly campy! It is smack on the water and the porch is just picture perfect. The view is amazing from the porch and outside you can sunbathe around the grill looking out at the lake, or hang on the swim dock. There are two full kitchens and two bathrooms with great showers. The lake is wonderful for swimming and boating. The sandy beach was perfect for us to sunbathe on the big dock while the kids swam all day. The beds are all comfortable and we could really spread out. We also enjoyed our trip to Skowhegan for the fair. Great hiking nearby and we canoed the Kennebec which is a few miles away. We didn't try the whitewater rafting in Bingham which is not far, but are coming back to try that next summer! Highly recommend it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I must say that I was most pleased with the accommodations at our cabin on Embden Lake. The screened in porch was a great place to have breakfast and enjoy all the wild life on the water in the mornings. The fire pit offered us opportunity to sit outside at night and enjoy the loons and stars. We had plenty of room inside and lots to do outside. Great place for family time and located in a very nice community. Not only is it a wonderful location on the lake, but offered convenience to several services in the area. Hiking in the area is good and there are several attractions that merit attention such as South Solon Meeting House, Kingfield area and the antique shopping outside of Skowhegan. The swimming area was well marked and seemed very safe for not having a lifeguard. Clean, clear water was a pleasure to swim in. I felt that my expectations were more than met and I am planning another time at Embden for next year. I would recommend this property without reservation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a small family reunion at these camps and loved the area and the wonderful 1940's cottages. The tin roofs and pine siding was like stepping back in time. We particularly enjoyed the fact that they are right on the water- stone steps to enter the lake and privacy in a community setting so our kids could also play and romp safely! We could tell these cabins were full of past family fun. Thanks for a relaxing time on Embden.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: We live in Cape Elizabeth Maine with two children and a big St. Bernard
Why the Owner Chose Embden:
We vacationed on Embden Lake for 8 years with our good friends before having the opportunity to buy our cottages. It was originally a children's camp, then a proper New England resort where we rented annually and now all privately owned. We have raised our children (and their friends) on this lake and it has many fond memories.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our camps are in a large building and were renovated by the previous owners in to two cabins with an adjoining door- this gives us privacy from our company but still keeps us connected for gatherings and community. We love that they are right on the water and have a sense of privacy but still offer the opportunity for meeting other travelers or locals who live there.
My favorite place in both camps would be the screen porch- always cool and restful in the summer for reading, sleeping, relaxing or entertaiining many! Loons crying and grills smoking..
