About Owners/Property Managers: Shawn and Jeanette Lawson (Kiawah Island Getaways)
Shawn's family discovered Kiawah in 1978 and returned year after year for two-week vacations. In 1985 we drove our VW Bug convertible to Kiawah and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.
In 1988 our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he spent the additional money required for the personalized South Carolina license plate "KIAWAH" (which we still own today).
In 1992, we built our first home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During construction, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin - he arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station.
In 2001, we purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape (3563) and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the new found fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah. Because we really enjoy what we do, other Kiawah Property Owners noticed and we started managing their properties as well.
Our whole family loves Kiawah and running Kiawah Island Getaways is a true family-run business. We personally prepare each villa prior to your arrival - because we want your stay to be perfect. We want you to fall in love with Kiawah too...and we know you will!!

Our visit to Kiawah Island was a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of life in Atlanta. We had previously stayed at another villa in the same area so we expected nice accommodations. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Windswept Penthouse. This is one of the most luxurious, well maintained and clean villas in which I have ever stayed. All of our everyday needs were met. The views of the beach are breathtaking and I could not wait to awake every morning to experience the peace, calmness and serenity of the environment. It was November and the weather cooperated 95% of the time. The close proximity to the beach allowed us easy access and the ability to walk on the beach at any time of the day or night. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to our next stay at the Windswept Penthouse.

The Penthouse at Windswept is the best unit on the island. We enjoyed our stay and the beautiful sights and sounds of the ocean. I'm glad we rented the bikes because we did a lot of cycling on the beach and around the island.

Beautiful views and beautiful accommodations. Everything about The Penthouse is perfect--exactly as portrayed in the website. The owner is meticulous and each room was immaculate and well appointed. Owner provides a binder of detailed information on the area, including restaurants, etc. This was our first visit to So. Carolina and we're very happy that we chose this property as our home base for exploring the area. Kiawah Island is a remarkable place--lots of wildlife and unspoiled vistas. Bicycling around the island is the way to go as it is flat and there are miles of bike paths, so you're not risking your life for the privilege of cycling. Try biking down the beach at low tide--it's the most fun we've had in a long time. Nearby destinations worth exploring by car: plantations off Ashley River road, historic Charleston, day trip to Savannah, GA, Fort Sumter/USS Yorktown. We just wish we had more than one week! We highly recommend this property.

This was our fourth time at the Penthouse and every time we come back it's like coming home. The unit was sparkling clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our week long stay. The views of the ocean from the windows and balcony are exceptional. There is nothing more peaceful than falling asleep to the sound of the waves on the beach. We took long walks on the beach every day and had time to go into Charleston to shop and dine. You can' beat 82 Queen for their she-crab soup. There are so many great places to eat on and off the island. Hege's was great. Love that low-country cuisine. Yum. Can't wait to come back again.

This unit is tastefully decorated and meticulously put together. From the high end sheets and towels, to wonderfully comfortable beds to notepads and pens - the Penthouse was complete. The view can't be beat. Check in and checkout were super easy. We did have to look around awhile for the dishes on our first night! (They are artfully stored in a cabinet at the end of the island; we were so tired we didn't realize there was a cabinet there.)
Owner response:How funny about the dishes!! I'm glad you found them! I may have to let our guests know where they are stored...folks are not used to having an "end-cap" cabinet. Thanks for your review! Jeanette

We treated ourselves to a wonderful week at the Penthouse. We have rented beach properties all along the east coast for 15 years and Kiawah Island Getaways is the best management company we've encountered. They have thought of everything to make your stay worry-free. Was able to book everything online/via email. All promises were kept. Tremendously easy check in and out. Besides having a million-dollar view of Kiawah's beach, the villa was extremely clean. It was also well stocked with household supplies and close to all activities on and off the island. We found Kiawah very fun, family-friendly, and meticulously well-maintained. Be sure to bring/rent bikes to enjoy the Island's 30 miles of biking paths. Downtown Charleston is only about 20 miles away too. Only negative: the building elevator was out of order when we arrived requiring us to haul our bags up four flights of stairs. Elevator was fixed the next day and fine the rest of the week. You will not regret staying here!

We just enjoyed another wonderful vacation in the Windswept Penthouse! It is a beautiful property, and it is beautifully decorated. It is very clean and well maintained, and the owners were very responsive to any concern we might have had. This was our second time to rent this property, and it won't be our last!

Location was great, view fantastic, and all conveniences were on site. We use to live on Kiawah in the early 80's when the Kuatis owned it and was amazed how beautifully the whole island has been developed. Thanks Robert & Suanne

The Penthouse is by far the nicest villa we have occupied in the 25 years that we have been vacationing at Kiawah. It is very clean and beautifully decorated. The view of the ocean is breathtaking! We really appreciate the professional manner in which our reservation was handled, and the attention to detail given to our requests.
