This special property has been in our family for over 30 years. Our home is tucked against Sun Valley’s world famous Bald Mountain in a quiet neighborhood overlooking the Big Wood River.
What began as a 1-bedroom cabin is now a contemporary log home: two-stories, with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, 2 upstairs decks, a Den with a pullout sofa bed, brick patio with hot tub, 2 fireplaces (which really heat the house!)along with central heating and a newly remodeled kitchen and downstairs bath. We are glad to be able to share this special place with others for selected weeks this year. For nature lovers and fishermen, this is a dream location, with what we feel is the best river frontage in the Valley with a fabulous upstream view!
For skiers, a short 3 minute drive (or a 10-minute walk) takes you to River Run lifts. The bike path is only a couple of minutes away for biking and roller blading in summer and cross-country skiing in winter. We have some guests who love their morning 'constitutional', which is walking up to Java for their morning Bowl of Soul!
The downstairs living area features rare and unique Cherry Creek stone surrounding the fireplace with a large 3-window wood-burning insert (rated to heat 2500 square feet!) and an open floor plan nicely furnished with antiques and a marble-topped bar/breakfast area. The 3 upstairs bedrooms can easily sleep 6 people, or 8 with the addition of the Queen sofabed in the den. The Master has a King bed, vaulted ceilings, walk-in wardrobe, jetted soaking tub and shower; the other 2 bedrooms have Queen beds, vaulted ceilings, small lofts, a shared bath and would be ideal for a second couple or children.
We live here most of the time, and love to share our home with others who love the outdoors, the Sun Valley area, and who will treat our residence with respect for the special place it is to us. Our home is pet friendly, but please check with us first. Kids are welcome, too. We ask that you remove shoes before entering the main area or upstairs, 'Hawaiian style', and refrain from smoking (no smoking).
Privacy, a sunny garden and wildlife are all priceless features here. The home features hardwood and cork flooring in the main living areas, with carpeting in the den and bedrooms. Riverside windows, deck and hot tub area provide wildlife sightings and mountain views right up Frenchman’s Gulch to hikers on the trail in summer or winter elk grazing on the sunny south-facing slope. We see osprey, bald eagles, hawks, fox, elk, deer, beaver, river otter, even moose and bear on occasion!

Year Purchased: 1975
Cameron runs his own landscaping company and Margie works in the fitness facilities around town,teaching classes and personal training. The children are grown and off at college, so we have the freedom to travel and share the house more, which we are looking forward to this year!
Why the Owner Chose Ketchum
As much as we like Ketchum as a place to live year round, it really is a resort town, with Summer and Winter high seasons with lots of visitors and many activities that are unique to this area. The skiing is world-class, both on- and off-piste: that includes the cross-country skiing, too.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Our location is unique, with both up- and down-river views and fabulous fishing in a hard-to-get-to, bordering on secret, in-town spot. We really don't have to do any driving to enjoy hiking or mountain biking. That's the benefit of living in a small town!
