    We stayed for a week at the Romantic Cottage and it was just that. The views were breathtaking and ever changing throughout the day and eve especially with the full moon in the mix. It was like watching a slow motion movie. The cottage had everything we could want and more. It was great to retreat back to the mountain after a day away, knowing that were had the peace and quietude that we wanted without the masses of the more frequented places on the island. Loved the garden and the aromas that were in the air and the use of the diffuser with the oils was quite lovely. We experimented every day with 1 or more oils and are using the hydra sol from the distillery demo we now have on a daily basis. Tom, Doreena and the rest of the staff were great. Loved our massages too. Thank you for creating this beautiful space for us to experience.

    I can't wait to go back! Doreena and Tom and all the staff are so welcoming and helpful. The distillation demonstration was really interesting and the attar of rose geranium hydrosol we made smells amazing.

    My husband and I stayed here for our 10 year wedding anniversary, we are from Alaska and did alot of research before booking, we were looking for the perfect paradise get-away. We were not disappointed in any way. The cottage was everything we hoped for and more! The views were stunning, at sunrise and sunset, and our favorite the stars and moon over the ocean- just breath-taking. We loved being out of the way, and everything down to the littlest detail was just lovely. We enjoyed our stay so very much and cannot wait to go back!!!! (Insider tip, book a couples massage- it was like a slice of cheesecake in heaven)-

    We've just arrived back at home and are still remembering our great time in the hills from Makawao. We can highly recommend the Aromatherapy Foundation. We stayed six days there and had a wonderful time. The Romantic Cottage is spacious and luxury. We felt like we would live in our own villa. Everything you could need is there: Pool, hot tube, grill. kitchen with full equipment, a giant comfortable double bed and a gorgeous view. The furniture is very elegant. We also can recommend the treatments at the Spa. They do a great job and really take care of you. And Doreena and Tom are such great hosts. They gave us many recommendations and always helped us if we needed something.

    "In preparation for our Maui wedding we did much online research looking for the perfect "off the beaten path" spot. We could not have been more pleased with the Aromatherapy property. Tom and Doreena were the consummate hosts in allowing us to hold the small ceremony on the grounds. The Romantic Cottage lived up to it's name and the view from up here is nothing short of spectatular. We will cherish the memories and remember the view always.     We simply loved the Romantic Cottage. We laid in bed and watched the sunset after napping from tiring days of sightseeing. The grounds are beautiful with a variety of gorgeous flowers and plants including protea. Tom was helpful in getting us settled into our cottage despite our flight coming in later than we had planned. We slept like babies every night - even with the windows wide open. The air is crisp and clean in the upcountry. The road getting up to the house is a little crazy - but it is only 2 miles from Makawao where the roads turn back to "normal." Watch for the axis deer and wild turkeys on your way up to the house! We also used the spa services on site. They were top notch and very rejuvinating! Cannot recommend highly enough. We plan to bring the whole family back and stay in the Grand Villa.

    Everything is so lovely, so beautifully crafted from all of the amazing wood to the thoughtful robes, Eco-friendly soaps and of course the views! I want to move in! There's a farm stand right next door where we bought excellent avocados. It's close enough to get to everything you want to do, but quietly away from the crowds. It would have been absolutely perfect, exceot that the water takes a very long time to get hot and that was hard for me, personally, as an environmentalist. Otherwise, perfect in every other way.     This place blew us away. My wife & I stayed here on our honeymoon, and this was by FAR our favorite spot while on Maui. While the other hotels we stayed at were nice (4/5 star), on a relative scale this place should be an 8/5 -- b/c it was easily twice as nice, twice as big, twice the view, twice the everything you could expect from a high quality hotel. It was extremely clean, well kept, and quiet. It feels modern yet unpretentious and very cozy. We really felt spoiled and wondered if we even deserved all of that awesomeness. It allowed us to really relax during our final days on the island, cook nice meals, swim, enjoy the hot-tub; and the views from upstairs are from another planet. If you enjoy a "mountain atmosphere" with warm weather - this is the spot. A short 15 min drive takes you to a small quaint town, and another 15 mins gets you to the beach. Yep, 30 mins from 'in the mountains' to 'on the beach'. The road to the property is quite the adventure - very windy, but I thought it was fun. It doesn't border any steep cliffs but for those uncomfortable with "snakey" roads might not want to make the drive after dark - b/c there are no street lights.. which only adds to the charm. It's also not far from the Hana highway, so if that's in your plans that's another great reason to stay here. It's also fairly close to Haleakala Park, which has AMAZING sunrises above the clouds. The staff, Tom & Doreena are awesome. Cujo the anti-guard dog adds a perfect touch to the staff, and despite his small but mighty bark he warms up to people fast. There are also spa facilities on site, which was a great way for us to finish off our adventurous honeymoon. This is one of those "buried treasure" spots you will tell friends about forever. Take full advantage & thank these guys for creating such an amazing & affordable paradise. PS - they even have LEMON, LIME & AVOCADO trees; you can even pick the fruit to make your own guacamole - doesn't get fresher than that!

    If you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful spot away from the throngs at the beach Aromatherapy Foundation is the place. My wife and I stayed in the Romantic Cottage and had a wonderful time. The views are spectacular, you can see at least half of the island, and the sunsets are unbelievable. And make sure to get a massage, we each had the best ever. We were a little concerned before we went that it seemed somewhat isolated, but while there we found it's location in the center of the island to be convenient to everything. We will definitely be back.

    Stayed in the Romantic Cottage for the last three nights of our honeymoon. Incredibly romantic setting with a beautiful western view of the island (and sunset) from the bedroom. Doreena and Tom were wonderful to deal with and Cujo the dog was great as the official greeter! We booked a couples massage on our last day and it was a wonderful way to wrap-up our vacation - wish we had more time to explore the gardens and use the swimming pool/hot tub. Glad I did my research and found this place! I found the upfront security deposit a bit unusual but we had no problems and had our money returned shortly after we got home. Would definitely stay here again the next time we come to Maui!

A few comments for those thinking of staying here: --Yes, it's not on the beach. And it is a bit of a drive. But it's a short drive, and absolutely worth it. --The grounds are beautiful. The pool and hot tub are a great place to relax. The cabin has unobstructed views of the West Maui mountains and sunset over the ocean... it's quiet enough that you feel like you're the only one there! --The cottage had a full kitchen as well as a gas grill on the lanai. You could easily cook a quiet dinner yourself. Or you can drive a few minutes to Makawao town for Polli's or Casanova's (or Komoda's donuts in the morning!). You're also less than 15 minutes from Paia (Milagros, the Fishmarket, Mama's...). --Reservations were simple. Communication was very easy, and we were able to check in earlier than we had planned. Our deposit was returned promptly. This is a great place to relax-- we're already trying to plan a return trip!

    Breathtaking views from the property! Comfortable rental house in a convenient location. Beautiful gardens around the cottage in a peaceful setting. The pool and hot tub are great. As an added bonus, a spa is located right next door. A perfect place for couples or families. Very relaxing and enjoyable - a memorable stay!

    "We loved our stay in upcountry! If we were to do it all again, we wouldn't change a thing. This was our first time in Hawaii. The beautiful view we had every morning was my favorite thing on the whole trip (that and cujo the dog). We loved our adventures to the beach, the mountains and Paia for dinners. We had the best of Maui at our finger tips here at the Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui. Don't skip on the massages or any spa item here, you won't regret getting one.     We were fortunate to have discovered the Romantic Cottage, a most heavenly perch. Our stay was nothing less than spectacular. We enjoyed the breathtaking views, the peacefulness, the singing of the birds and the soft breeze through trees, the fragrant garden, and the warm hospitality. The Romantic Cottage at the Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui is our favorite getaway. The kitchen is well equipped, complete with an outdoor grill and table with a view. A few of my favorite details include a diffuser with essential oils prepared with ingredients from the garden, an iPhone dock so we could play our own playlists, and the cozy fireplace... this place is dreamy...

    Our stay at the romantic cottage was fabulous. If you are looking for an experience that is different than the hotel one, this one is something to check out. The views are just fabulous all day long, the cottage very nicely appointed and the hot tub and pool a bonus. The pine forest up the road was a nice treat each day. You have to wind your way up the hill to get there which might be a little disconcerting for some but I'm used to narrow windy roads & you will get used to them also - it's worth the trip. You might not want to leave. (PS Families with young children or extended family might want to look into the beautiful house next door. The 3 properties together are great for extended families who want to be together but have some space also).

    I remember reading a quote here on Maui, years ago when visiting Kipahulu, which said "If there is a heaven on Earth, it is here, it is here, it is here." That's how wonderful this place strikes me. I loved the expansive views of the island, the lush grounds, the sound of the wind in the trees and the variety of bird calls. Thank you Tom & Doreena for creating such a sanctuary for myself and others to enjoy. The wonderful spa services and essential oils were truly the cherry on top. The sadness I feel leaving after my 5 day stay is soothed by the knowledge that I'll be back to visit in the future! An honor meeting little Cujo too! Olinda No Ka Oi !

    Our stay at the Aromatherapy Foundation was absolutely the perfect way to spend our last few days in Maui. The accommodations are cozy and very comfortable, and the view over the grounds and upcountry Maui is awesome. The grounds and paths are beautiful, soothing (and very aromatic, of course). The hosts are very friendly and wonderfully accommodating folks. Do have a massage if you stay...the massage therapists are the best my husband and I have ever experienced. We plan on returning as soon as possible!

    My husband and I enjoyed 4 secluded and wonderful nights in the romantic cottage and absolutely loved it. We had a stunning view out from our 2nd floor bedroom looking downhill toward the rest of the island below. What a beautiful view to wake up to! The property is very well maintained and this little cottage had everything we needed (minus food of course which we bought at the Rodeo General Store in Makawao....stick donuts at Komodo Bakery are the best!). The owner is really nice and greeted us when we arrived and lead us to the Haliimaile General Store, yum!

    My Wife and I went to Maui for our 10th anniversary and went back and forth of where to stay. We were very fortunate to find the Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui. The Romantic Cottage was extremely clean and well tended. The staff answered questions when we had them and were very friendly. The quiet location and beautiful views made our vacation and anniversary very special. We will definitely stay there again on our next rip to Maui.

    Leave the beach for a few days and experience a different Maui. Cooler, quieter, and so uniquely beautiful that you'll find yourself dreaming of it's peaceful splendor long after you've left. The cottage is thoughtfully designed, fabulous bed, amazing stars at night, swimming with a view and the fragrant aroma from the thoughtful landscaping. Have a massage and you'll truly understand what relaxation and peace are.

    As difficult as it may be, drag yourself away from surf and sand for a few days in this incredible property. Sweeping views that I'm still dreaming about, landscaping that puts your soul at ease, a view from the pool (where you breath in aromatics from the garden) are really something special...and unexpected on Maui. Our family of four (including a teen and tween) happily spent 3 days here, in peace and quiet. Spring for a massage - you'll never have another one quite like it, in an unbeatable location.

    We loved everything about the place , it was clean and it had everything you may need in your stay. the pool was very nice in the first few day but then we didn't like it cuz it needed to be cleaned and no one did ! , otherwise everything was Great. the location of the cottage , the privacy , the customer service , the company of the little friendly dog "kujo" ... all was more than good. Its a place for someone who is looking for the privacy , and wants to be away from the city ... its a little pit faraway from the activities locations , but in the same time its close to everything cuz its almost in the middle of the Island . for sure you will need a car. Thank you
