Just less than two hours from Manhattan, or a ferry-ride from New England, turn onto a private drive in a neighborhood of age-old oak trees and find this year-round, waterfront gem. As soon as you enter, behold the living room’s cathedral ceiling and grand picture windows which face south onto a grassy yard and the calm Peconic Bay. Summer breezes cool you on the warmest days on this shady property, and the trees provide privacy on both sides of our 0.9 acre.
Four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen, garage, and a screened porch complete the home. A split-level, the ground floor has two private bedrooms (bunks and a pull-out daybed) and a newly-refurbished bath. The upper level holds the master bedroom (queen bed), the fourth spacious bedroom (twin beds), and a bathroom with bath and separate shower. All are stocked with linens, and there are large closets on each level. Washer and dryer are available in the basement. The kitchen is complete with dishwasher, microwave, and cooking utensils. From the kitchen, step out the back door onto the screened porch for lunch or cocktails.
If you have a canoe or kayak, you can launch it right from the yard. There is also a sandy community beach one short block away. A five-minute drive will bring you to the county park which offers hiking/bike trails, fishing, and a golf course. While you are on the road, stop at one of the local farm stands for fresh strawberries, apples, corn, and plenty of other local produce.
This is Long Island Wine Country, and most vineyards offer tastings and tours on a daily basis; some have live music on summer weekends. For family entertainment, SplishSplash Water Park and the Atlantis Marine World Aquarium are close by, along with the Tanger Outlet Shopping Center. Enjoy a fresh dinner from the sea at one of the North Fork’s Zagat-rated restaurants, or head to the Hamptons for famous eateries and a trendy social scene.
