Hi Jeannie, We had the best vacation of our lives. Our children are still talking about it 9 months later!! Jimmy was wonderful and very helpful. Casa Mermaid was clean, and very well kept. Being across the street from the beach with an unobstructed view was great. We can't wait to come back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 9/9

After much research, I chose Casa Mermaid as a one week vacation rental for my family (8 of us ranging in ages from 27 to 62). The small, peaceful town was very welcoming after day trips to Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. Puerto Morelos is a place that you can really relax. The house is located on a quiet street within walking distance to the beach and everything in the town. The house is clean with high quality, mostly imported furnishings. Tasteful decorations give it a comfortable, homey feel. The kitchen is impressively stocked with any appliance or utensil you might need. We especially enjoyed the breeze and ocean view while sitting around the large table on the balcony. The owner was very attentive and clearly keeps the property well maintained. The online description is accurate. I would definitely recommend this rental to friends and family. All 8 of us really enjoyed our stay at Casa Mermaid. Thank you for providing such a great place!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: I am so glad your family enjoyed my home. Thanks for the great review, please come back again. Ask about my second booking special! Jeannie Casa Mermaid

We went to Puerto Morelos in December and it was one of the best vacations we have ever had as a family. We were 5 adults and 3 children, (ages 4,5, & 8). We had plenty of space. My husband and I had the one of the king bedrooms (with a bathroom across from it) on the main floor, our two children shared the other king bedroom on the main floor (with an ensuite). Our friends had the upstairs bedrooms which both had ensuite bathrooms so everyone had their own private bathroom. The veranda on the top floor provided and unobstructed view of the beach. We had breakfast there every morning and watched the beach. What a wonderful way to start the day. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you can imagine (yes, a dishwasher). The only thing we brought was our stove top espresso machine and food. Travelling with kids we have found it is always better to have things you know they will eat. We all sat together for each meal. I think you will have space. The local restaurants were great also. We loved all of them. In the evenings alot of the children would gather in the town square and play soccer or simply play in the playground. There was no road noise. The town basically shuts down around 10:00pm and before that there isn't much going on. Perfect for families with small children. We loved the fact that we had our own private accommodation with a pool. No sharing with anyone. The kids would get up each day and go swimming (as soon as I could get some cheerios in them) for hours it seemed. We also went swimming after dinner on some evenings!! I highly recommend that you take life vests for the kids. We felt better knowing that if for any reason they slipped into the pool, they were safe. Jimmy, the caretaker, came every day to see that the pool was running smoothly. He was also a great resource and very friendly. We loved the town and have recommended Casa Mermaid to all of our friends!!! It isn't a luxurious hotel, but more of a family home. There was even videos for the kids to watch, which surprisingly did come in handy. They loved the Little Rascals!!! If your looking for a more quiet off the beaten path sort of vacation then this is the place for you. There were plenty of towels which was great. Jeannie even let us use her computer to check email etc. We used is everyday. It came in very handy when we wanted to do research for day trips. There were alot of travel books in the living room as well magazines aDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

If you are looking for a formal, stuffy, get dressed up for dinner every night type vacation then don’t even think about Casa Mermaid. However, if you are looking for a place for a family reunion, girls/guys vacation, couples get away or anything similar then you will enjoy Casa Mermaid. We are a group of hardworking female doctors in the final year of our residency and we wanted a private home with a pool close to the ocean and near Cancun but not in Cancun. We wanted fishing, snorkeling, swimming, sunning and most of all privacy. We got all this and more. C. Mermaid was clean, well equipped with a private bathroom in each of the 4 bedrooms. There were plenty of nice linens, towels, pots, pans and everything we needed for cooking. Fresh water was delivered and maid service was available as well as a private cook we hired for a party on the veranda upstairs. The house itself is fun and whimsical with its array of mermaids and interesting objects d’art. Our morning rounds consisted of waking to the sound of the palm trees blowing against the bedroom window, jumping into the crystal clear private pool, and eating breakfast poolside with friends. Any questions we had were immediately answered by the accommodating owner, Jeannie, who couldn’t be nicer. This was so much better than hanging out with high school and college students roughing it up on Cancun beaches. If you want a real vacation in a family home, with plenty of privacy, then allow me to recommend Casa Mermaid. By the way, we thoroughly checked and compared prices. No resort, hotel or private home could beat the price we paid for 6 of us to spend a week at Casa Mermaid. Mandy & FriendsRecommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

Jeannie, We're packing up this morning, sad to go. We've had the most marvelous week here, and enjoyed being all together in your house. No catastrophes happened! The grandkids LOVED the pool. Even after a full day of swimming in the ocean they would race home and jump in the pool and stay there til we dragged them out! Our daughters and their spouses planned a magical anniversary dinner out on the pier at the resort up the beach, Ceiba del Mar. I'll have send you some photos we took of that evening and of your house lit up at night. Anyway, we've had so much fun, and everyone who helped us along the way was friendly, friendly friendly. A very good vacation. I hope we will go again in the not so distant future. We had such an amazingly good time. DanaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

March 1009 Dear Jeannie We had a great time and loved your place. It had everything we needed. We really liked Rolando, he is a sweet guy, and of course the resident iguana's, though not as sweet as Rolando. I would like to add that the beds were the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on in Mexico. If we can get a group together again for next year we will contact you. Thanks, Tana McPheeDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Feb 2009 Hi Jeannie, Well, we are now missing Mexico. We had a great time. I'll mail the keys back to you this week. This was our third stay we enjoyed the extra days you gave us. I would say that Maria is missed. So, like I said, we enjoyed ourselves a ton! Jim was able to clean the pool for us and we had a great time. It's such a fun little town. It will be interesting to see what follows the Oxxo in development. Take Care- LizDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Some people would enjoy Casa Mermaid; our family did not. This rental is not for those with high standards of cleanliness and order. The house is crowded with furniture, kitschy artwork fills the walls and every surface. It is not clean. Most furniture and the house itself is ramshackle (for example, not one door opens and closes properly; there are no closets, just shelves and poles in the bedrooms). The living room is tiny and not comfortable. The kitchen is in the middle of the house, small, with no windows or venting, greasy and hot! My husband, myself, our son and daughter-in-law spent a week at Casa Mermaid in January 2009. The entire house was uncomfortably warm. The bedroom a/cs were loud and inefficient. The kitchen was sweltering and dirty, the pots and pans were in bad shape. Bathrooms were grungy and not pleasant. In short, we were fairly uncomfortable. There are some compensations. The beach is right across the street, and it is lovely. The pool is nice. There's a computer with a fast Internet connection. Puerto Morelos is a pleasant town with lots of restaurants and several places to hang out at night. It's all within walking distance. There's an artisan market on the opposite end of town from the house where you can buy hammocks and other items at good prices. People are friendly, and you avoid the over-development of most of the Yucatan. For grocery shopping you drive half-an-hour to Playa del Carmen and take your pick of large modern supermarkets. For fruit you cross the highway to the colonia (where the Mexican part of the town is located), where there's a great fruit/veggie stand. Some of the kitschy art in the house is fun. The staff who care for the house are very helpful and nice. Jeannie, the owner, was pleasant to deal with and accommodating. It's just that her standards of housekeeping and mine are poles apart.Owner response: First, let me apologize for my maid, she left to get a more permanent job else where. It was a process to replace her and the home was neglected. I have been there myself and the home is now spotless and clean. Pots and pans have been replaced, all doors are working, always were, and there is NO ramshackled furniture. As far as the size of the rooms, shelves in bedrooms, closets and non A/C in the home. We are not selling the house Just renting one week. All the furniture has been newly re-upholstered within the last year and is clean, fresh and in good condition. We are located just across the street from the ocean and there is a constant ocean breeze. If you are one that needs A/C then you should rent a home with central A/C. Our A/C'S are all brand new wall units and have thermostats and remotes, they are designed to A/C the bedrooms only and are very efficient and quite. Many renters with large groups have commented how comfortable the home is and many have loved the art work including myself. If you stay in Casa Mermaid and have any problem with anything, please contact me by email and I will have the problem fixed asap. I do not feel that it is fare to stay in someones home and not let them know what the problems are, but write a negative comment on the web, at least give me a chance to rectify the problem. We now have a lovely maid Isabella, that comes in three times per week with her 10 year old daughter. I invite you to come see for yourself, if you are unsure about renting Casa Mermaid drop by any time and inspect our lovely home.

About the owner: My favorite thing to do is 'go on vacation'. The way that I have found to always 'go on vacation is to own the vacation Home.
Why the Owner Chose Puerto Morelos:
The very first time I arrived in Puerto Morelos, I knew I would soon live here. I love the quaintness of the town, the charm of the people, the closeness of a small community where everyone helps everyone. Its like living on an Island.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Some of my favorite things in Puerto Morelos at Casa Mermaid is the beach and the pool, outstanding. The snorkeling at the reef or just along the shore, crystal clear water of the Caribbean Coast. I love to go to town on Wed morning when the fresh produce street market is open. I get to see friends new and old and I bet to buy all organic veggies, home made fresh cheese & herbs. Then every day but Sunday the fishing boats come in at 3PM, you can go right to the pier and purchase a fish, they will clean and filet it for you, and they always have a recipe for you.You must check out THE LITTLE MEXICAN COOKING SCHOOL just 2 doors down. Cat the Owner has the cutest Gift Shop and SUNDAY BRUNCH is excellent . You may need reservations. There are so many great things to do I never run out of new places and things to explore. In winter there is a different Festival in the square every weekend. One more thing I love, Full Moon Bonfire on the Beach. You have to find it, it keeps moving, but it is there all night long!!
