This was our third time to stay at Sandy Shores. I found it the first year through this webbsite. I read the reviews that stressed cleanliness. The reviews turned out to be true. The owners take pride in the upkeep and cleanliness of the property. The owners are very helpful answering questions. There's plenty of beach space. You can cook in the units or go out to eat. There are plenty of nice restaurants within walking distance. I recommend Crabby Bill's. We are going back for a fourth spring break.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at Sandy Shores for the first time, and it was most enjoyable. It was a garden paradise with the beach and gulf of Mexico just down a short path. Three weeks was too short a stay for us!! The unit we occupied was very comfortable and very clean! The Indian Rocks Beach area,( where Sandy Shores is located), is a flourishing community with excellent dining establishments, clothing stores and tourist shops. Our hosts Ned & Myrtle made our stay as relaxing as a vacation should be. We'll be back in the future!!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We came to Florida to spend time with our 89 year old parents and we were really pleased to have this beautiful, thoughtful, restful safe haven to enjoy soft pink sunrises, phenomenal sunsets, amazing moon sets, lovely ocean breezes and moments of rejuvenation. It is on a lovely, peaceful beach and we were thrilled. We collected many lovely shells on our early morning explorations. Ned and Myrtle's thoughtfulness and love for their home is everywhere. They have included everything we could possibly need somewhere ( including three lovely sets of dishes, one perfect for the Thanksgiving we spent there). Their home was meticulous both inside and the flowers, trees and amazing outsides spaces. Ned is a fountain of advice, being a native of the area. We loved the pink Key West Shrimp at Crabby Bills ( we ate there twice), the fabulous grouper sandwiches at Dave's Dockside, and the amazing Cuban food at the Columbia in Clearwater including the wonderful mojitos they make at the tables). We had never been to the Indian Rocks Beach area before and all his guidance was spot on. We have no idea how long our parents will be with us, but we hope to be returning to Sandy Shores for many years and will recommend it to all our family and friends.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, sightseeing.

Sandy Shores was the perfect place for some much needed rest after working hard all year. We really loved the closeness to the beach - you can just walk there barefeet! I always worry about the comforts of beds when I travel, but our mattress was so comfortable, we slept like babies! The cottage was very clean and well equipped with dishes, pots, pans and towels. The outside area had many places to sit in a sun or shade. The owners, Ned and Myrtle, were so warm and welcoming! Their kindness and hospitality really blessed us. While at Sandy Shores, we really enjoyed eating lunch at the Cafe De Paris. You must stop by and order the Buckwheat pancakes!Recommended for: Romantic getaway

We have recently returned from our annual holiday at Sandy Shores IRB marking our 6th vacation in the Gulf Cottage, also know as "Grammies" Cottage. We have had many memorable vacations here with now very familiar, comfortable surroundings but always something new to enjoy! As always we enjoyed the cozy accommodations, the amazing beach, the ocean (which we still swim in in Oct/Nov and the always beautiful sunsets. As the pictures indicate there are many relaxing places to sit and relax, either in the sun or protected in the courtyard surrounded by the garden. Every year Ned and Myrtle have completed upgrades for the comfort of their guests. This year we especially enjoyed the new garden sitting area, a place to relax with some sun but protected from the wind. Ned and Myrtle are always very friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts. Sandy Shores is close to everything we need for a great vacation but so comfortable we always enjoy cooking, eating in and relaxing on the beach out front. We have also enjoyed many of the nearby restaurants, coffee shops that we can walk to as well as local shopping and sights. Sandy Shores was a great find, a place we have returned to for the past 6 years and hope to continue to visit for our Florida vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My best friend and I stayed here for a long weekend getaway to visit a relative in St. Petersburg and it was wonderful! The Garden cottage is beautiful, clean, cozy and comfortable....just a short walk to the beach and a gorgeous, natural seascape. The pictures definitely show how beautiful the gardens and beach front are and we were not disappointed in any part of our stay there! Ned was a wonderful host and made us feel welcome and special. We would recommend Sandy Shores to anyone looking for a gorgeous spot for a reasonable price, where you are made to feel like part of the family! :-) Very centrally located, within walking distance to lots of great restaurants and beach places.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

WOW, what more can I say. The place is imaculate, gardens are beautiful and everyone is very friendly. Being right on the beach was a must for me, and this place is wonderful and quiet at the same time. We walked and played on the beach everyday, had most of our meals in, I enjoy cooking, and watched the sunsets. Our host and hostess, Ned and Myrtle, so kind and helpful, helped make the long weekend most enjoyable. If you are looking for a lovely place to stay, this is it!! When I''m back to visit my daughter in college again, we will be staying back at Sandy Shores!! Can't wait to bring my husband with me so he can enjoy it too:)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Last year we promised we would come back this year and we did it. We had wonderful 2 weeks and now we promise that we'll visit this little paradies next year also. A lot has happened since last year. The house got a new paint, Myrtle and Ned did a lot of renovation work everywhere, designed the garden a bit different and planted many of new plants and flowers. It was really worth it. As I read the reviews I noticed there is no word about sleeping and I think this point is very important, too. We were in the gulf cottage and also in the patio cottage and in both of them we slept like a log. I always have problems with my spinal discs but not when we're there. The beds are marvelous and it's absolut calm. We love this place and so ...... WE'LL BE BACK !!! Thank you very much Myrtle and Ned for the kind hospitality .... and certainly .... for the amazing baseball evening and the lessons. We're sometimes watching baseball on 'SKY-TV' and know a little bit more than before but Werner was the better student ;o) Best wishes from Werner und DorisRecommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

After staying at Sandy Shores for several years we did not think it could get any better, but than host and hostess extraordinaire Ned and Myrtle used their magic to transform the already pleasant gardens into a flowering paradise. There are so many many small nooks and patios to enjoy, read, daydream. Add that to the immaculate cottages, wonderful private beach front sands and sunsets and you simply cannot find a better place on Indian Rocks Beach. We will be back for years to come.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Myrtle and Ned are great hosts, and the location is just what we were looking for-- for the activites we are involved in...golfing, shooting, fishing, the great beach on the Gulf, and of course, spring training with the Phillies. Also, our neighbors were very nice and we enjoyed meeting them and visiting. It's a great place for the 55+ crowd, near restuarents, and some night life.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

If an idyllic setting, white sandy beaches and honest hospitality is your idea of a dream vacation, look no further! Hosts Ned and Myrtle Hall offer the answer to your dreams at Sandy Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. Last week we had the privilege of renting the Gulf Cottage, affectionately called “Grammie’s Cottage.” Ned and Myrtle have created an oasis of tranquility. The interior is tastefully decorated and the kitchen is well stocked with all the necessities to fix your own meals. We chose to eat in most nights because the Gulf view from the dining room table couldn’t be beat. Stepping out the door we found ourselves in a beautifully maintained tropical garden just steps from the white sandy beach that stretches for miles in both directions. From beach towels to blenders, big screen TV to internet access, Ned and Myrtle provide everything you need to enjoy a vacation you will treasure.Did you find this review helpful? My wife and I stayed with Ned & Myrtle and had a wonderful time relaxing. The first thing you notice, besides the quaintness of the location and neatness of the grounds, is the immaculate cleanliness of the rooms! We were very impressed with how clean and cute the rooms were. Just a few stems from Gulf Blvd. and you are away from the rush and congestion of the outside and can feel the peaceful tranquility for this very beautiful and clean place. We are definitely looking forward to our next visit.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had never stayed in Indian Rocks Beach before, but knew the area and thought it was lovely. So we were thrilled to find Ned and Myrtle's place. It was just what we had hoped for: very clean, comfortable and within walking distance to the basics and more -- but still very quiet and quaint. We loved being able to walk out our door to the beach, or walk up the street in the morning to purchase a newspaper at the local drugstore, or get coffee and breakfast at the local pastry/bakery shop. We did have a car, and certainly visited many spots around the area but, as Ned said, its all here!! The beach is lovely. We saw wonderful wild birds along the shore as well as dolphins. My favorite time of the day was late afternoon. I would stretch out in one of the lounge chairs, under the shade of one of the pines, and just relax from a "tough day" of vacationing. Our friends from Palm Harbor came to visit one day and were so surprised at how great our spot was. They even asked for the contact information. We plan to come back in fall 2012 and have already booked.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed at Sandy Shores from August 13 until August 21, 2011. From the moment we arrived, Ned and Myrtle warmly showered with true Floridian hospitality. If you are reading this to help determine whether or not to stay here, well, you may as well stop your research and contact the owners as soon as possible. These reviews may seem too good to be true, but this is actually one of those times where one ought not to be afraid; this place is just that great! The gorgeous beach is truly in your backyard, and the beach house is exactly what one could ask for on vacation. There is even a CVS pharmacy literally across the street. Moreover, delicious restaurants are within a short walking distance, and/or a two minute drive down the street brings you to the greatest seafood joint I’ve ever experienced, Keegans Grill. I haven’t looked up the definition of paradise in a dictionary, but someone should tell Oxford or Merriam Webster to just write “Sandy Shores”.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a wonderful and lovely beach retreat! This is a little slice of heaven right on the gulf. I loved staying in the garden cottage and found it to be very cozy and very well equipped. It was so nice to know that everything was provided, including beach chairs and umbrellas! As many times as I have been to this area, I have never stayed in a place where there were so many amenities provided! Ned and Myrtle were so welcoming and friendly, as well. I hope to return to this beautiful home away from home sometime in the future. My only regret is that I did not have a whole week to stay!!!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Our trip to Sandy Shores was wonderful. It was exactly what we were looking for. We love the beach, but in the past few years have gotten frustrated with the commercialized nature of most beaches. We wanted a simple, quiet vacation where it was easy to RELAX. This place was exactly that. It was impeccably clean, which is definitely a big thing for me since I work at a hospital, and am a little OCD when it comes to cleanliness. Ted and Myrtle live on the property, and were very inviting and informative. Ted told us that while we were staying that we were family, and they make you feel very much at home. The beach only has a handful of people on it at any given time which was a much desired change from the overpopulated beaches we have become accustomed to. If homey relaxation in traditional Florida fashion is what you are looking for, this place is perfect for you...I know it was for us. I have a response to make to the gentleman who keeps writing very poor reviews on this wonderful property. I think you may need to find a hotel on one of those commercialized beaches I was talking about, because Ned and Myrtle were nothing but kind and respectful to us, so it is my humble opinion that YOU must be the reason that you didn't enjoy your vacation, not THEM.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

This was our 3 year to stay with Ned and Myrtle. The Beach House is beautiful, clean, fully stocked with fresh towels and kitchen supplies. It has been updated with a big, new HD TV ( tons of channels) and carpet. It is truely our home away from home. The location is perfect, beautiful tropical plants surround the grounds, right on the beach! The beach is large and not crowded. Plenty to see and do, centrally located between St, Pete and Clearwater - but not crowded. Ned and Myrtle are wonderful hosts! Always there if you have questions and need anything. We even had a cook out with the neighbors, they treat you like family. Best place to stay with the best hosts. Love to stay there, no people on the other side of the wall or running up and down the halls. We've been spolied and wont stay anywhere else. Thank you for sharing with us!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

I'll touch on the few positives things about the Gulf Cottage. The view is incredible. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The dining and living area is nice. And the bed was extremely comfortable but the bathroom is very small. What you have to consider before renting any of their three units is that the owners Ned and Myrtle live above the Patio and Garden cottages. At least one of them is always on the property. I never saw Ned leave until the last day! From the time we arrived to when we left they would get on my 7 year old daughter for using to much water while rinsing off at the outdoor shower. Also about getting sand into their precious house. They mentioned several times about turning the A/C up when we left the house ( the air conditioning actually broke down for one full day). In addition they would correct me about properly dumping the water after rinsing. Myrtle did this at the end of the last full day as if it even mattered at that point! Ned is constantly sweeping and hosing down the walks and porches at all hours. I couldn't ever get completely comfortable the whole trip. The ironic thing about all this activity going on is that the property looked bleak and barren. Everything is old and cheap and the landscaping is atrocious. They even charge for using the washer and dryer. I was glad when the vacation came to an end. I was more than ready to head back to Maryland. And while I was driving home Ned actually called me on my cell phone inquiring about a wet spot on the carpet.Owner response: In response to Mr L. unfavorable review we have this to convey: Myrtle and I strive each and every day to provide our guests with a pleasant memorable vacation. Our twenty seven 5 Star Reviews on this website without one negative comment is solid proof that we run a very successful vacation rental operation. In addition we have four other websites with the same results and our return business is outstanding! Here at Sandy Shores we provide a home away from home atmosphere that people love and respect and in this particular instance we honestly felt that this was not the case. - Water being used to rinse off outside was used so excessively that it flooded our patio area that was approx. 20 feet away and this happened on several occasions. - Water usage inside was no different. We had a large wet spot on the living room carpet, close to the bathroom which we initially thought was a serious leak in the foundation, that's why we called. Thankfully after blotting the carpet with towels and several hours later it was dry. By the way the four additional guests on the last day probably contributed to this incident. Let's all do the math 4 adults and 3 children in an one bedroom cottage and our bathroom is too small? - The AC unit was fixed within 6 hours of being notified. - We love kids - we explain everything in a calm and friendly manner, as we host countless young families yearly. - Regarding Mr L comments that our property looked bleak and barren and the landscaping is atrocious our response is: just last year we were honored to be one of only 12 cottages published on an annual art calendar of Indian Rocks Beach and twice we had photo shots on site for magazines related to the modelling industry . We must be doing something right to attract such activities. In summery we are the 3rd generation to own and operate Sandy Shores and our guests have said what a beautiful "old slice of Florida" we have. Regards Ned and Myrtle Hall

From the moment we were welcomed by Ned and Myrtle, we knew we had found paradise. Their warm hospitality made us feel at home immediately. The cottage was perfect; impeccably clean and charming. Not a detail was overlooked The complex was so adorable with little alcoves of seating and grilling areas equipped with quirky little decorations and gorgeous flora. The night time blooming flowers high in the palm trees were amazing. Ned shared not only his grilled steelhead trout with us but also the recipe. We enjoyed a golf clinic with him and shared time with his guitar and singing. A short walk through the dunes lies the incredible Indian Rocks Beach with its crystal clear waters where fish and shells abound. I have traveled a lot and this is by far one of my favorite places on earth. Highly Highly recommendedRecommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Last year was my first visit to Sandy Shores, Indian Rocks Beach. I fell in love with it. This year my husband and I spent the week. This year did not disappoint. Ned and Myrtle are so nice. They take care of your every need. It feels like home. The most beautiful beaches in the world. I shopped the local malls, we visited the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo and enjoyed fine dining at the local resturants. I suggest E & E, Guppy's, Lighthouse Donuts and Crabby Bills (just across the street) Ned and Myrtle know all the great spots to dine. We have already booked for next year and I can't wait. A very relaxing place to unwind and enjoy the well maintained flower gardens at the cottage. Thanks for a wonderful vacation, see you next year.Recommended for: Age 55+

We were on honeymoon and after New York City and San Francisco this (too short) week was a wonderful conclusion to a wonderful trip. For me, this place is like paradise. I knew it already and it has once again confirmed, after 12 years. Myrthle and Ned are really very nice and helpful. The other reviews have not exaggerated. Also, it helped us a lot that Myrthle is German and could eliminate some language barriers ;o). So I hope that this review is somewhat understandable, because our English is not the best. The entire holiday was perfect, so we´ll repeat it almost, to our wedding day, will visit New York again, and then Grandma's House .... but then 2 weeks :o))! Has already been scheduled and I can not wait until this long year is over. Many thanks to Myrthle and Ned ... you gave our trip a great degree. Many regards .... take care Werner and DorisRecommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This property was everything as described and more. We loved it. Ned and Myrtle are very fine folks. They made us feel right at home. We loved the Patio Cottage. The property is very well kept. Very clean and cozy. We would take the lounge chairs out to beach for fun in the sun. We enjoyed walking along the beautiful beach and shelling. There are many nice restaurants for dining. I would recommend Guppy's, Crabby Bill's, Salt Rock and Lighthouse Donuts. The CVS across the street was perfect for picking up snacks, ice, ect. Very convenient. I went with my best friend for a girls getaway. We felt very safe in that area. We went shopping two days of our stay. It was a perfect vacation. Many thanks to Ned and Myrtle for sharing this little slice of heaven on earth. Well are already planning for next year. We will be going back to Sandy Shores for years to come. I highly recommend this property, I already have to my brother and his family. Deb & CarolRecommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

This was our first visit to IRB and we enjoyed it very much. We found the area to be as described, "Old South". Our week was very relaxing and the short walk to the beach (we stayed in the Garden Apartment) was a big plus. Ned and Myrtle could not have been more friendlier and made us feel right at home. Overall it was not a disappointment and we will definitely be back.Recommended for: Age 55+

We had a fabulous time during our stay at the patio cottage. I enjoyed eating my breakfast every morning on the patio in the lovely garden. We especially loved the room of goodies with everything from boogie boards to fishing gear. Ned even took the time to teach my son how to fish. We both had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, restful place to stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/11

We stayed at the Gulf Cottage for my husbands birthday ( his first trip to the ocean ) It was perfect!! The cottage has everything you need, very clean and lots of room. Ned and Myrtle are wonderful hosts, anything you need they will help with. Beautiful spot, close to everything but a little private too. Much better than a condo or high rise hotel. Loved every minute, will be back soon!! Thank you for letting us share in your little slice of heaven. Tammy and JoeDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/12

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your Gulf Cottage. We had awesome weather and enjoyed your place very much! The time flew by way to fast while we were there and we wish we could have stayed longer. Before we left Florida, we stopped and had lunch at the Chinese Super Buffet, in Seminole, as you suggested. The sushi was phenomenal. We ate enough Sushi and food to last us a couple of days. Thanks for the great recommendation. We hope to make it to florida again soon and would love to stay in your gulf cottage. It was absolutely amazing!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/11

We had a great time in your lovely corner of Indian Rocks Beach. Now missing the warm weather and morning swims as we shiver in a return to winter. Thank you both very much for your kind hospitality. Here's to hoping we can make it back, so please don't sell out to North Carolina! Or if you do, give us first option!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We have stayed 3 years in a row at the Gulf front cottage. It's a perfect getaway with all the comforts of home. Plenty of privacy. There's a kayak, plenty of beach chairs, and you can pick the fabulous sunny beach or sit in the shade near the cottage. Highly recommended!Did you find this review helpful? Our stay at Sandy Shores was wonderful. The hospitality of the owners was genuine. I would recommend this vacation paradise to anyone who wants to be a part of old florida. It was nice to know that the beach house belonged to Ned's grammy and he and his wife continue what his family started in the 50's. I appreciate it mostly because I am a 6th generation floridian and proud of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/11

Sandy Shores in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida is a “home away from home’ in a tropical garden paradise with many sitting places in comfortable chairs among lush Florida flowers and foliage. The patio apartment and cottage are both functionally and artistically decorated, usefully outfitted, immaculate and so comfortable. The wide beach, right on the Gulf, beckons one to walk, sit, shell, and watch dramatic, beautiful sunsets over the water. The owners, Ned and Myrtle Hall, are the epitome of southern hospitality hosts. There are many excellent restaurants and other attractions in the area which make for a truly memorable vacation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/11

Our stay with Ned and Myrtle was lovely. Our apartment was clean, cozy and comfortable. They were gracious hosts who helped us with any queries and made us feel very much at home. Our privacy was respected and we were also invited into their home and shown wonderful golf photos and told very interesting golf and fishing stories. There's a great French restaurant right across from Ned and Myrtle's place and many other super food places within walking distance. We loved our 10 days at Indian Rocks and hope to return to visit our new friends in the near future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/11
