Peaceful and Scenic

Our family of 6 stayed one week at the "Surf Cottage" this past summer. We didn't want to leave!! The home is so peaceful it's almost dreamy. We could tell it was going to be a relaxing stay when we first pulled into the home. The house is situated on a road that really seemed like more of a big bike path than road. Very peaceful and the views were spectacular. The inside of the home looks like something from a 60's home decorating magazine. There were videos, magazines and old records for us to enjoy. We spent our evenings listening to the turntable and watching The Avengers (I now have to get that series on DVD!) :) I even once used the 60's cookbook in the kitchen. The home was also very clean and well maintained. It's the kind of clean that makes you want to take your shoes off and feel comfortable doing so. I spoke twice to the manager when booking and once before leaving. She was very helpful. During our short stay, we went to Mackinac Island once and the city twice. We had a two fires on the beach and though the beach is long, we never saw another person on it. We were even lucky enough to catch a thunderstorm. We could hear it rumbling from Wisconsin (I think) and over Lake Michigan. It was majestic and big sounding. There is a book in the home with maps that detail things to do and places to eat. We tried two of the restaurants in Petoskey and they were both REALLY good. One was called Julliene Tomatoes and the other was an Asian restaurant (can't remember the name.) I think our favorite restaurant was Legs Inn in Good Heart. It's a polish restaurant on a large bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. One of the nice surprises about the home is that it has two living rooms. The kids were able to play and watch TV in the one with the pool table and my husband and I could watch The Avengers (I will get that series!) in the other. That wasn't something we thought about when we booked the home, but we now know it's almost a requirement with the age range of our kids. There was also a firepit in the backyard (which we didn't use) and a swingset (which the kids did use). We all had room to spread out, yet enjoy each other. Anyway, we are so happy to have found this home. We are definitely coming back and would recommend it to our friends.

The house is AMAZING! It was the cleanest and coziest house we have rented. We had a large group of 12 people and had more than enough room. We loved that we could bring our four-legged family members as well! The property was beautiful; we fully enjoyed walking through the back woods. It was such a treat to see Lake Michigan in the winter and walk down the stairs to be on the snow covered beach. We will definitely rent from the Blue Lakes Vacation Rentals properties again…

We had a wonderful week at The Surf Cottage. The house is perfect for kids & adults. The beach was pure heaven on Earth. The waves were huge. We even saw some surfers. We had such fun swimming, tanning, biking, and of course eating! We had great campfires by the beach. The most fun was the pancake competition. (Mocha, pb & banana, s'more, egg & bacon, apple graham, chocolate pretzel). All good!

We had a wonderful vacation. House was very clean. We traveled to Mackinaw, Petoskey, Charlevoix, etc.. We saw many deer near Harbor Springs, and they posed for Photographs. The crystal clear skies were filled with countless stars. The water was very blue. The sunset was gorgeous. Humming birds fly by the window. The quiet air was broken only by the sound of a busy woodpecker. The ground was covered with Trillium in full bloom, and the trees were so many shades of spring green. We had a campfire, and told stories after roasting hot dogs, and marshmallows. We enjoyed Leggs Inn, Turkeys, and Cornichonos, all great food. We played pool, and Toss Across.

The surf cottage is in a beautiful location. The views overlooking Lake Michigan are breathtaking and the walk down the stairs , all 200 hundred of them, to the beach was beautiful and a good workout. We stayed at the house with 2 other families, 6 adults and 7 kids, and the house layout worked out very well for us. We were at the house in February and went over to Nubs and Boyne for skiing every day. It was a convienient location and was an easy 10 minute drive to the slopes. The house is clean and very well maitained. We would love to come back in the summer and spend some time on the private beach, it is a secluded and beautiful location. There is also a fire pit for camp fires and a play structure for the kids if you are there in the summer. I would highly reccommend this rental to other families that love the outdoors.
