Just right bungalow.

Just loved our stay here! It was a perfect location to do whatever we wished. Just a whisper from the great beach to snorkel and sun...even used the " boogie boards". Numerous Sea Turtles are frequently visible on our short walk to the beach. Enjoyed the fresh fruit and coffee provided upon arrival. Quiet and decorated so nice. I especially enjoyed the private outdoor shower to get the salt and sand off before going in the studio. Enjoyed the owner who has lived here many years. She has a lot of information to share. We would stay there again in a moment. So nice! We explored the island in and out and felt our choice of residence was truly the best.

Deb made our stay there very comfortabhere she was a gracious hostess and the home was beautiful. There were special touches of organic juices and soy milk in the fridge. She even brought us home a fresh pineapple when she heard we wanted to grill some while we were there. Plus we were only a few short steps to the ocean where we watched turtles grazing on the sea weed in the cove. We counted 10 turtles one day! It was amazing. We hope to go back someday soon.

Very comfortable, clean, well-maintained and cozy bungalow with pretty much everything you need right there! You can relax with your morning coffee on the lanai and fall asleep to the sound of the surf. We really enjoyed the provided breakfast treats - juice, apple bananas, and local granola. And we especially appreciated the blender for making smoothies and the outdoor shower.

Winter Get A Way

Date of Stay: 01/27/12 Review Submitted: 02/26/12

Staying at Brennecke's Beach Bungalow was a perfect match for us. While we occasionally stay at resorts when we travel we really prefer unique accomodations and this bungalow exceeded our expectations! There were no surprises in what we had read about the property. We were so comfortable here thanks to Debbie. She provided so many personal touches from local granola, cold beer in the fridge on our arrival, beach chairs, coolers, snorkle gear, everything we could imagine! She was also a wealth of information on local activities and restaurants. We spent a day with Outfitters Kauai ziplining, hiking and swimming with Debbie's recommendation. Our favorite restaurants were Keoki's, Kalapaki Joe's, The Marriott's coffee shop and beach side bar, and Casablanca. Sueoka's Market and Living Foods Market were also great places to pick up snacks. We were not disappointed. We look forward to our next visit to Brenneck'e Beach Bungalow!

Perfect for Relaxing Beach Vacation

Guest: Deb and Ted (St. Paul, MN)
Date of Stay: 01/15/12 Review Submitted: 03/25/12

Brennecke's Beach Bungalow was perfect for our honeymoon on Kauai. We were a short walk (one hundred yards) from the beach, and Debby supplied us with chairs, mats, snorkel gear, and everything else we needed for a relaxing day in the sun. She was also a good resource for food, sites to see, and places to explore. The room was clean and stocked with everything we needed. We loved breakfast on the lanai and being able to make meals in the room (if we wanted). We're extremely happy that we chose this option over a typical resort, and we would recommend this place to any couple looking for a low-key, convenient place to relax.

Ideal Location for Couples

Guest: Mike & Amy (Cincinnati, Ohio USA)
Date of Stay: 12/19/11 Review Submitted: 01/25/12

Stop looking and start booking this ideal bungalow for those who want to get the most out of their stay in Kauai. This is the perfect place in the absolute perfect location in Poipu. You can't beat the convenience of a few hundred feet from the beach -- whether you're looking to boogie board, swim or just enjoy the sound of the waves to help you fall asleep at night. This is not a 5 star resort. If you're looking to be just another number at a massive resort complex with crowded swimming pools, long walks to the beach, a noisy atmosphere and overpriced resort food then this is not for you. However, if you're looking for a cost-effective getaway, privacy, the ability to make your own meals at "home", a friendly and attentive host with years of local island knowledge, ideal access to restaurants, beaches and shopping then this is definitely the place for you. The bungalow has everything you need to get the most out of your stay. Having stayed at several locations on the island previously, I can say this is by far the best value and is perfect for couples, newlyweds or others looking to get a piece of real island living. This home is in a quiet neighborhood setting and has easy walking access to 2 different beaches to swim, snorkel, boogie board, or just relax. It is also very likely you'll swim with sea turtles here and see monk seals taking a nap in the sand. Two restaurants and a deli are also within walking distance and I highly recommend walking to Casa D'Amici for dinner. Within a 5 minute drive are many dining options, local markets, shopping, golf and at least 2 other beaches. Please read the owners' guidebook for great recommendations for things to do and places to visit. I'd highly recommend staying at the Bungalow!

Looking for a quiet, close-to-everything gorgeous place to stay in Poipu? Consider this lovely home in a quiet spot just a minute from the beach and Poipu Beach Park. We rented a wing of Deb's second floor since the bungalow was already booked, and were totally pleased with the arrangement. We rode beach bikes around the neighborhood, played ukulele in Poipu Beach Park, walked the beach in the early morning, and gazed out over the ocean from the lanai. Thanks, Deb!

This is a great place to stay if you want privacy + easy, easy beach access. Just a short walk from the best swimming and snorkeling beaches on the south side of Kauai, and just a short drive to Waimea Canyon. The bungalow is the size of an efficiency apartment and has everything you need. We wondered about cooking without a stovetop, but there are so many portable cooking devices it really was no problem. We used the electric griddle, ricemaker, and extra large toaster oven extensively. Debbie is a great hostess and made sure we had everything we needed, including some great advice on local restaurants and shops. We can't wait to come back!

We love staying in B&B's and chose this one for our 10th anniversary and first Kauai visit. The place was beautiful, especially the lanai (porch) for breakfasts and dinners, and the warm outside shower when coming back from the beach with sand. There's plenty of beach gear available - snorkelling, surfing, biking, beach chairs, etc. We went boogie surfing every morning before breakfast with the supplied beach gear. The beach is a 2 min walk away. There's wifi to check email and information, and the kitchen stocked with good food - much of it local and organic. The B&B has it's own entrance with a private feel through the lovely back garden which actually faces the ocean. We highly recommend it as a base for a Kauai visit.

We celebrated our 25th anniversary on the beautiful island of Kaua'i. The bungalow provided everything we could asked for. We debated long and hard about which side of the island to chose, etc, but definately made the right decision. Very private, well maintained, beautiful grounds. Close to beach, horseback riding, the island is very easy to get around. Deb had lots of suggestions, including how to make our vow renewal special (thank you Kelvin!) and was readily available, but very unobtrusive, realizing we were not there be be "party animals" looking for a lot of social interaction but to spend as much quality time together as possible. We were able to hike Waimea and Na Pali, restrict our eating out to once a day to keep expenses down, and really appreciated all the little extras. This is the third time we have done the "wedding vow" thing (church, then captain on a cruise ship with Bora Bora in the background, and now on a secluded beach on Kaua'i). We feel we made a gread decision for possibly a once in a lifetime experience. Hopefully we will be able to go back!

We enjoyed every aspect of the bungalow! It was a perfect vacation for us. We really enjoyed watching the sunset from the porch and the beach accessories in the 'love shack' were such a nice bonus. Grilling fresh fish from the fish market in Koloa, the amazing beaches across the street, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.....I could go on and on. :) We really hope to come back some day!

I can't add much to what the other reviewers said about how well stocked the place was and all the extra amenities Debbie supplies. The bungalow is in a great location (walking distance to beaches and restaurants). What I can say is that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed enjoyed all 8 of our days we stayed there. We use VRBO from Mexico to Hawaii and Debbie's place is on top of our ratings list.I would give it 6 stars if I could. Tom & Lark 3/11/11-3/19/11

What a wonderful spot! The bungalow is well stocked with beautiful views of the gardens and peek-a-boo beach views as well. The coffee, fruit, juice and granola were such a nice touch, and it was great having our own private lanai and use of the BBQ. The "love shack" had beach chairs, body boards and assorted snorkel gear for our use as well. This is a great value for a great stay. Our stay also including the tsunami warning and Debby was kind enough to move us uphill to her other property when the evacuation call came through. We really appreciated her help - it beat sleeping in our rental car!

My wife and I stayed here over the Christmas/New Years holiday and had a blast. We really wanted to save money on lodging so we could splurge on doing activities around the island. We were super impressed with the amenities provided! The fridge was stocked with juice, granola, soymilk and fresh island fruit. There was a private lanai, a view, HDTV, free wifi, and access to their bikes, snorkel gear, boogie boards, and beach chairs. There were even mini coolers and ice packs for our day trips! Need I say more??? Debra and Jim did an amazing job making us feel right at home, and we appreciated the attention to detail. The location couldn't be any better - tucked away enough for privacy and peace, yet literally minutes away from the beach. This is a must-stay for couples looking to get away on a budget! We can't wait to go back!

I have travelled around the world from dives to 5-star hotels. Debby's home is among the best I have stayed at for value, location, courtesy, and the little details. All the pictures are accurate. She is responsive, professional, friendly...a 5-star butler at your service. The bungalow is quiet and charming. Little details count. The BBQ worked well. Everything you need in the kitchen for appliances, dishes, etc. No oven, but the microwave sufficed. There was a toaster oven and blender also we used. She had umbrellas, hats, beach towels, extras in the bathroom for toiletries, beach toys, beach chairs, bikes, snorkeling mask/snorkel/fins, umbrella, Wi-Fi, you name it. She provided us a welcome basket of fruit and other items in the fridge. Bed was comfortable. Good TV/DVD player and a nice selection of movies and also books you can take to the beach. Patio was super. There's no AC there in Kauai but it wasn't needed for our visit...left the windows open at night (screened) and temperature was perfect and no noise but the waves and birds in the morning. No problem with bugs. This is a perfect spot to walk to the beach and Poipu beach park, or to drive to activities in Kauai. We really enjoyed our stay and would return!

If you wish to have a great stay, with short walk to the ocean, fabulous atmosphere, great owner and you want to be on the South side - stay here!!! It is a very comfortable, beautiful classy place that feels like home. The owner can help you with pointers on the island. You will go to sleep and wake up with the sound of the ocean only one lot away. It is quiet & peaceful. The south side is the dryest and has beautiful beaches. I spent over 40 hours on the Web finding a place in Kauai that would fit all my parameters and it was well worth it.

Owner response:I find that the perfect people always seem to find their way to my door. I love all my guests, but I cried a little when you and Steve left because you became such fast friends, so quickly. You are rare jewels in the world and I really do hope we can meet again someday - maybe in your beautiful play in Uruguary!!! Mahalo for leaving everything so neat and clean. Please come again soon!!

My husband and I were looking for a place to stay on the South shore in Kauai for our daughter's wedding in October 2010. Since my husband loves to body surf, we thought it would be great if we could find something near Brennecke's Beach....and we found the BEST place! The beach is a just few steps from the front porch...and not just body surfing but the most amazing snorkling! It is quiet and relaxing and the owner is just wonderful....more than willing to answer any and all questions and has great suggestions on things to see and do. If you are looking for a place to stay in Kauai where you can relax but still feel like you are at home, this is the place for you!

This is such a little slice of all of the best of Kaui! Close to a wonderful beach and many other activities. We enjoyed snokeling and relaxing at the handy beach. Just a quick walk away. It was great to come home to the quaint and comfortable bungalow. Very quiet and peaceful with the background sound of the surf and your lovely landscaping. Thanks for all the little extras like fruit, coffee, granola etc. The decor was beautiful too, so Hawaiian with unique little touches everywhere. Great place to relax enjoying the variety of books that were on the shelves. Especially enjoyed some of the ones about the history of the island. Such a good central location for our daily explorations of the island. We found a variety of places to eat, some of our favorites were the Shrimp station in Waimea and Toi's Thai Kitchen in the Ele'ele Shopping Center. We'd recommend this to anyone wanting something other than the usual big commercial resort type vacation. Thank you Debby and Jim for the useful information you provided to us, and for a lovely home away from home.

Hi Debby, I just wanted to thank you for our perfect honeymoon in Kauai. We could not have been happier with our stay at The Bungalow. The bed was comfy, the lanai was lovely, and the ceiling fan kept even James cool at night (he's always too hot). Brennecke's & Poipu were some of the best beaches we found on the island. What a treat! We made use of some snorkel equipment in the "love shack" and James even tried boogie boarding at Brennecke's. We also used the little cooler and the drying rack... So many practical things you have for your guests! Thanks again for the coffee, milk, fruit, granola, etc. I don't think we could've gotten such personal treatment anywhere else. We had a peaceful but exciting trip. We were able to hike in the canyon, took a kayak trip up the Wailua River, a boat cruise along the Na Pali coast... and we still had plenty of time to loll on the gorgeous beaches. Before we even left we were already trying to figure out how long before we can save up enough money (and vacation time) to come back. Thanks again & hope to see you next time!

The home is exactly as claimed on the VRBO website, and is clean, well maintained and has a really nice location. What made it really special for us was the loving care the Debra and Jim extended to us -- it just felt like we were staying in their own home. They took the extra step of stocking the kitchen with a few basic necessities, which was really appreciated. If you want to be within very close walking distance to the beach on the south side of Kauai, but would rather be in a quiet neighborhood instead of a massive hotel, this is the place for you!

Dear Debbie, When reality sets in after a perfect Hawaiian vacation, and its "back home" and "back to work", the one thing left to do is to thank you and Jim for our wonderful accommodations in your home. We each think of our time on Kauai every day, remembering all the beautiful sights, the great food and the adventures. We loved the sound of the surf when we woke up, then casually eating breakfast on the deck with a superb view right in front of us! and, after a long day exploring, we were welcomed by the comfortable feeling as we walked through the front door and began to unwind. You take such wonderful care of your home. It is truly beautiful in a perfect location, and the thoughtfulness with which you treat your guests was much appreciated. We'd love to come back -- can't wait to come back! We would recommend your beach house with enthusiasm. Thank you again! Al and Sharon Abbate

June 22nd to 30th, 2008 This bungalow was perfect for our honeymoon! We had an amazing time here (and on all of Kauai). It has to be one of the most special places on earth. We loved boogie-boarding & snorkleing at Brennecke's and Poipu Beach. We enjoyed eating fresh fish at the nearby restaurants (especially The Beach House). The Waimea Canyon and Na Pali coast were unbelievable! I am still astounded at their size and beauty. Jessica really enjoyed all of the waterfalls we visited (although we took a wrong turn on the hike to Waipoo Falls, we did make it to the Secret Falls on the wailua River and Hannakaiai Falls along the NaPali Coast. We also visited Kipu FAlls and the rope swing!) We also enjoyed a luau at the nearby Sheraton, especially sampling all of the different foods & watching the hula dancing. Thinking back on the past weeks and all of the beautiful flowers, colorful fish, majestic scenery, and glowing sunsets, I do believe that there is more beauty on this island than can really be enjoyed in one liftime (much less one week!). But we enjoyed the taste we got and will continue to revisit this place in our pictures and our memories (and hopefully once again for real sometime down the road). July 10th to July 17, 2008 Deb & Jim, Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your bungalow. You made our first visit to the Hawaiian Islands truly memorable. Thanks for all the yummy things you left in the fridge. We made delicious smoothies. The chamgpagne that just appeared was a very thoughtful touch. The Bungalow was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and the location made it easy to get to activities anywhere we wanted to be on Kauai. We visited Waimea Canyon, enjoyed watching Spouting Horn and snorkeling at Poipu Beach; spent a day kayaking on the Huleia River and hiking through the jungle. We did a catamaran tour of the Na Pali Coast - starting at the North Shore. We thought the Smith's Island Paradise Luau was a great experience too. One of our best times was spent sitting at Poipu Beach watching the turtles frolic in the surf. Favorite restaurants incuded Keokis in Poipu, Garden Island Chinese in Lihu'e and the very best was Scotty's BBQ in Kapa'a. Delicious food, great service, and incredible setting! We'll definitely be recommending your rental to our friends who visit Kauai. Cathy & Bill Johnston, Vista, CA PS: The frogs were a riot!

It was nice to meet with Jim face to face for a few minutes, perhaps next time we will all be able to meet in person and share a bottle of wine and some fresh Opah. Thanks again, Rusty & Jen

FROM OUR PAPER GUESTBOOK: Dearest Deb & Jim, When we decided on a Hawaii Christmas this year we thought of all the places we might stay. In the past we "checked into" such well known properties and enjoyed wonderful vacations at "Mauai Lani" on the Big Island - as well as The Rock Resort "Mauna Kea". We were guests for two years at the "Lodge at Koele" and "Manalani Bay Resort". The hotels we stayed in were the "Grand Welea" on Maui and "Kapalu Resort" on the same island. Let us hasten to say that we had lovely vacations at all of those resorts. When were checking out more intimate, non "resort" types of places we came upon "Brennecke's Beach Bungalow". Frommers gave it a rave review. We called and fell in love with you on the phone. Your authenticity and class was the big seller. We decided to stay where someone with such class was in charge. Far from being disappointed, we were enchanted not only with the physical beauty of the home, the Bungalow, the views - You took care of so many minute details even down to reading material and beach gear. The stocked fridge was a delightful surprise. We enjoyed rising early (still on Dallas time): fabulous coffee out on the Lanai watching creation unfold before we set off on many adventures - or sitting ono Poipu Beach. We loved watching the surfers dance on the waves. Unless you're into snorkeling, we found the public beach in front of the Hyatt stunning and less crowded (not a swimming beach though!) You can lunch at the Hyatt (great food at great prices) We ate, drank and golfed at the Hyatt but still got to come back to our cozy, beautiful love cottage. The two best dining choices for us was Casa di Amici (right around the corner - you can walk to it from the Bungalow) and The Beach House which is right on the water - a MUST at sunset. Debby and Jim - we thank you for your kindness, your friendliness and your superb hospitality. We've stayed at many 5 star resorts all over the world. We give your property a 6! Our love and gratitude, Jane and Bob Handly

COPIED FROM OUR PAPER GUESTBOOK: Our first trip to the Islands, and you helped us achieve the Kauai State-of-mind. Your hospitality and this little slice of paradise made our anniversary unforgettably amazing. This island and its people and places far surpassed our expectations. Experience not to be missed: The trek to Polihale beach for our own private mile strech of perfect sand, snorkeling with sea turtles and dolphins off of Brennecke's Beach, exploring the wet caves near Ke'e beach, The Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour, hiking Waimea to Waipoo falls, dining at Roy's & The Beach House - but most of all, just relaxing on the lanai for candlelit dinners under The South Cross with our good frineds the toads! Thanks for thinking of everything a couple could need. We've already begun scheming to make another trip - KEEP IT UP! PS Thanks to Jim for the local fauna/flora lessons, showing us the place to surf and worldy wisdom!

What a lovely surprise the Bungalow was. We had a relaxing stay and felt very comfortable with all the amenities that were provided. The location is perfect and the beach across the way is all one could ask for. Going to sleep with the sound of the surf was an added bonus! We will be back!

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary there at Jim and Debs beach bungalow, We were looking for something quiet, peaceful, with a view and sound of the ocean. (also affordable) We were very delighted from the first day we arrived to our departure day of the clean and comfortable ammenities and rental property. Boy we sure hope we can be regular attenders to this paradise island, so we can use the Breneke Beach Bungalow again and again.

We have stayed at Debby and Jim's place 3 times in the last 6 years! It's a romantic bungalow that is just steps away from the beach! Enjoy the view from the adorable lanai and let the sound of the ocean lull you to sleep. All the ammenities of home are available! They include lovely Island fruits, juices, coffee and granola to enjoy during your visit. Brennecke's is a nice alternative to the hustle and bustle of a large resort. You will feel like you are at home...only at home on the beach! I recommend this property wholeheartedly! Wish we could stay year round!
