The wind in the palms, the roar of the waves on the beach, and pelicans cruising overhead... these are just a few of the experiences that make up our vacation home on Edisto Island.

We are located on a small barrier island surrounded on three sides by tidal marshes. From the hammock on the front porch you can watch egrets and herons fishing the high tide while wood storks and pelicans soar overhead. Behind the house is a tidal creek which is wonderful for swimming, fishing, and catching shrimp and crabs. Dolphins and otters also make this creek their home and watching them pass by is a truly special experience. A picnic table and bench on the dock is perfect for early morning breakfasts or beautiful sunsets.

The beach is accessible by small boats (jon boats, kayaks, etc.)via the creek, or by short walk or bike ride. If you have your own boat, there is a landing located on Frampton Creek,(please inquire) but the property owners along the creek request that no jet skis be launched on the creek. Edingsville Beach is a stretch of unspoiled, almost deserted beach. The town of Edingsville was the beach retreat of the plantation owners of Edisto in the 1800's until it was swept away by the Hurricane of 1893. You can still find bricks, pieces of china and bottles left from this historic community. Shells, shark teeth, and fossils are a constant source of interest for the beachcomber.

Our house has three bedrooms: the master, with a king-size bed and private bath with a huge double shower; second bedroom with queen bed; and third bedroom with two sets of bunks which sleep four (4). There is also another bathroom with a jetted tub/shower. The kitchen, dining area, and living area are all open with views of the marsh and ocean. French doors and a sliding glass door open on to the screened porch and the breeze from the ocean can keep the house cool except for the hottest summer days.

Edisto Beach is only five miles away, where one can find groceries, fine arts and crafts, restaurants, golf, tennis courts, and the Edisto Beach State Park. Charleston is forty-five minutes to the north, easily accessible for daytrips. In Charleston, the shopping and dining are superb. Carriage rides are a favorite way to hear the stories of Charleston's past and see the beautiful old homes and churches on every street. The Charleston Aquarium, strolling through the market, and boat rides to Fort Sumter make for another wonderful day in the city.

We hope that you will love our home on Edisto Island as much as we do. Play, swim, or just laze in the hammock and watch the world go by... You are on "Edislow" time!

Why the Owner Chose Edisto Beach

Moondragger's name came from a shipwreck we found on Edingsville beach. The quiet, the animals, birds, and sea life and spectacular marshes make Cowpens our favorite place on the planet.

The Unique Benefits at this House

You can truly get away from every day life when at Moondragger and find the calm that we all need.

Owner's Map of Edisto Beach

We fell in love with Edisto the first time we came in 1989. We were fortunate enough to find the most unique spot on this unspoiled island and built a home for our family.

wonderful time

My husband and I and our 8 year old daughter stayed at Moondragger in August and had a great time. It is a beautiful house, nicely furnished, wood floors all amenities you need. It has an amazing kitchen and screened front porch. We spent a lot of time on the private dock catching crabs, which could keep kids busy all day, and swum off the dock in the creek everyday. It is so peaceful there, we hired a canoe and paddled to a deserted beach where there are amazing shells and fossilized sharks teeth. We also took our bikes and cycled to a nearer beach and around the area, it is very quiet and safe. Edisto Beach is a really nice area for family vacations, very low key, not trafficky, safe for children to cycle around and we love it there, this house has so much more than a regular beach house though, being on the marsh with the dock and creek and the beach nearby and all the birds. Excellent stay!

Wonderful Vacation

Thank you for sharing your home with us! The location was absolutely perfect for us. We made a point to sit on the front porch swing every evening and enjoy the ocean breeze. We absolutely enjoyed fishing from the dock on the channel and watching the birds, crabs, etc. We took our boat and enjoyed riding around the channel to the beach. On top of the view, the house had everything that we needed for the week. This was undeniably our best vacation yet! Thanks again!

Perfect Vacation Home

Guest: Bruce (Morton)
Date of Stay: 06/18/11 Review Submitted: 06/27/11

My whole family really enjoyed our stay in your home. The location was perfect--beautiful setting, private location, and very convenient to the beach. We spent several mornings drinking coffee and watching a huge diversity of wildlife interact in the salt marshes while the kids spent hours swimming and crabbing off the back dock in the tidal creek. We were glad to have our kayaks and spent hours exploring the tidal creek. We even rode the tide all the way to the ocean and back in again--it was great! The house itself was beautiful and efficient. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed (including very sharp knives!) and all of the appliances were modern and updated. Nice open floor plan made it easy to socialize while we prepared meals. We loved it and plan to return next year. Thank you for sharing this slice of paradise with us.

Thank you so much for allowing my family to stay in your beautiful home. We had an amazing time fishing and crabbing off the pier. The walk to the beach, and the beach itself was great. We found sand dollars and starfish along with hundreds of sea shells. My boys and their "pawpaw" loved every minute of it. I loved the location, it is a very comfortable and peaceful place to spend quality time making memories with the family. Thanks again, Donna

Remote location - beautiful marshes and beaches - relaxing, quiet, clean

Date of Stay: 03/27/10 Review Submitted: 08/08/10

Our family of three visited in spring of 2010. We enjoyed the peaceful location of this home, the dock, the walk to the beach, and sitting on the porch. We brought our canoe - perfect for this tidal creek with its amazing tidal range - and followed the creek out to the ocean (watch your tide charts) to do some beachcombing. It was an expansive, beautiful beach with sand dollars, starfish, and fossils too. We were close enough to Charleston to venture in for two day trips - the aquarium, Ft. Sumpter visitor center, Fort Moultrie, and Charles Towne Landing State Park. Locally, we enjoyed the drive around Botany Bay Plantation and Edisto Beach State Park. In addition to bringing our own sheets and towels, we also needed to supply our own toilet paper, paper towels, and soap, etc., so you may want to visit the Piggly Wiggly in the town of Edisto Beach BEFORE you get to the house, because once you get there, you won't want to leave again. The house was clean, comfortable, and spacious. When we return to SC for a future visit, we would definitely stay here again. Note to prospective renters about boats: the large tidal range drains the creek to a VERY LOW level(inches) at low tide. We are glad that we chose not to bring our 18 ft flats boat - it would have been high and dry. Stick with canoes, kayaks, or jon boats you can either pull out of the water or don't mind sitting on the bottom at low tide. Our canoe was perfect.

I went to Edisto in 2009 with 4 friends and stayed at Moondragger. It was perfect. It is a beautiful, natural setting with wildlife and privacy. We loved the dock, the screen porch, riding bikes to the beach and the hammock. The house has everything you need.

"Well. That was just about the best time we have ever had at the beach, and certainly the best house! We feel so lucky to have been there. We all appreciated how pretty everything was, and how well-planned. I hope I can remember how the sunrise looked through the trees from the front porch for those moments when I feel frazzled. We heard a Chuck-will's-widow, an owl and a maniac flicker. Do you know what the birds are that walk around in the marsh grass? They look like some sort of sandpiper, but they are big and completely brown and I can't find any in my bird or beach books that seem to fit the bill. I'm wondering if they are migrating. Thank you so much for allowing us to use your house. It is just lovely. We all hope we can come again!" Submitted by owner with guest's permission

After years of beachfront vacations at Edisto, we found that this year, we didn't have enough family to fill the usual house and after much searching decided on Moondragger...and are we GLAD we did. The house is great and the owners have done a lot of little things that make you realize it's not just a rental, but a home. The views are spectacular, and it's so peaceful on the porches with the sound of the waves and the rattle of the trees. We used both the kayak and small motor boat to see dophins and birds that use the creek.(the oystercatcher was a treat) As far as our grandaughters were concerned there were 2 beaches.. bike beach and boat beach. For all the beaches tho, the creek saw more bodies. As soon as the tide came in enough everyone was in the water. Just like an oldfashioned swimming hole! When the tide went out the wading birds came in. We sat under the covered dock for hours watching something or even nothing. It was the very best Edisto vacation we've ever had.

Owner response:We'd like to add that the kayak and motor boat mentioned belonged to the renter, not the house. The creek is perfect for small boats, kayaks, and canoes.

June 21-28 2008 We had a fabulous week at Moondragger!. The view from the Master bedroom and porches is so spectacular I felt I was on a Carribbean island. The floorplan of the house is open and comfortable and the house is well stocked. We were at home from the second we arrived. Capn' Ron's landing was perfect to launch our Jon boat and we enjoyed riding the creek and out to the sea. We found fossils and beautiful shells on Botany Bay Island and a shark's tooth on deserted, beautiful Edingsville beach. The entire week was so wonderful we wished we had reserved the house for two weeks! Thanks so much! Pat and Fred Parrish

"We just wanted to let you know what a great time we had at your house "Moondragger" in Cowpens. The weather was wonderful, the setting was marvelous, and my wife has decided that Eddingsville is her favorite beach. Your house was lovely for a great vacation. We had a wonderful time crabbing, shelling, fishing and just walking on the beach. I hope we have the opportunity to spend more time there in the future."
