Location: Edisto Island, Charleston Area, South Carolina, USA (45 minutes from Charleston, South Carolina)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)
The wind in the palms, the roar of the waves on the beach, and pelicans cruising overhead... these are just a few of the experiences that make up our vacation home on Edisto Island.
We are located on a small barrier island surrounded on three sides by tidal marshes. From the hammock on the front porch you can watch egrets and herons fishing the high tide while wood storks and pelicans soar overhead. Behind the house is a tidal creek which is wonderful for swimming, fishing, and catching shrimp and crabs. Dolphins and otters also make this creek their home and watching them pass by is a truly special experience. A picnic table and bench on the dock is perfect for early morning breakfasts or beautiful sunsets.
The beach is accessible by small boats (jon boats, kayaks, etc.)via the creek, or by short walk or bike ride. If you have your own boat, there is a landing located on Frampton Creek,(please inquire) but the property owners along the creek request that no jet skis be launched on the creek. Edingsville Beach is a stretch of unspoiled, almost deserted beach. The town of Edingsville was the beach retreat of the plantation owners of Edisto in the 1800's until it was swept away by the Hurricane of 1893. You can still find bricks, pieces of china and bottles left from this historic community. Shells, shark teeth, and fossils are a constant source of interest for the beachcomber.
Our house has three bedrooms: the master, with a king-size bed and private bath with a huge double shower; second bedroom with queen bed; and third bedroom with two sets of bunks which sleep four (4). There is also another bathroom with a jetted tub/shower. The kitchen, dining area, and living area are all open with views of the marsh and ocean. French doors and a sliding glass door open on to the screened porch and the breeze from the ocean can keep the house cool except for the hottest summer days.
Edisto Beach is only five miles away, where one can find groceries, fine arts and crafts, restaurants, golf, tennis courts, and the Edisto Beach State Park. Charleston is forty-five minutes to the north, easily accessible for daytrips. In Charleston, the shopping and dining are superb. Carriage rides are a favorite way to hear the stories of Charleston's past and see the beautiful old homes and churches on every street. The Charleston Aquarium, strolling through the market, and boat rides to Fort Sumter make for another wonderful day in the city.
We hope that you will love our home on Edisto Island as much as we do. Play, swim, or just laze in the hammock and watch the world go by... You are on "Edislow" time!

"Well. That was just about the best time we have ever had at the beach, and certainly the best house! We feel so lucky to have been there. We all appreciated how pretty everything was, and how well-planned. I hope I can remember how the sunrise looked through the trees from the front porch for those moments when I feel frazzled. We heard a Chuck-will's-widow, an owl and a maniac flicker. Do you know what the birds are that walk around in the marsh grass? They look like some sort of sandpiper, but they are big and completely brown and I can't find any in my bird or beach books that seem to fit the bill. I'm wondering if they are migrating. Thank you so much for allowing us to use your house. It is just lovely. We all hope we can come again!" Submitted by owner with guest's permission

Homeowner Response:
We'd like to add that the kayak and motor boat mentioned belonged to the renter, not the house. The creek is perfect for small boats, kayaks, and canoes.

"We just wanted to let you know what a great time we had at your house "Moondragger" in Cowpens. The weather was wonderful, the setting was marvelous, and my wife has decided that Eddingsville is her favorite beach. Your house was lovely for a great vacation. We had a wonderful time crabbing, shelling, fishing and just walking on the beach. I hope we have the opportunity to spend more time there in the future."

"I wanted to let you know that we loved our vacation at Moondragger. The boys (12 year olds; call them Tom and Huck) had a wonderful time fishing, crabbing and swimming on the dock (which became the center of our SC universe) and spending time on deserted Eddingsville beach. The house was quite nice and we loved the porches most of all. Thank you for sharing your home. We enjoyed it immensely." --submitted by Owner
