AMAZING place with incredible Owners!

I have rented several vacation properties over the past few years and nothing compares to our experience at Herod's Hideaway. I am somewhat of a private person and had initial concerns over renting a duplex with the owners next door. In reality, having Eva and Jerry next door was one of the best parts of the trip! They are incredible people and after only 4 days I felt that I was leaving behind a beloved Aunt and Uncle! Many have posted about the cookies and the s'mores (which were really great!!!) but their kindness extends much further than that. I won't leave details as I am sure Eva and Jerry make connections with everyone differently but my experience would not allow me to rent any other place on Norris but Herod's Hideaway! The cabin is beautiful and spacious. It is very clean and has everything you would need for a great vacation. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and I found everything that I needed to make every meal. They even supply spices for you to borrow and paper products are available for the kitchen and the bathrooms. As for the outdoors, there are plenty of chairs for use on the deck and they have a table and chair set and two folding loungers out on the dock to enjoy the sun. There is a basketball net off of the dock to play water basketball (bring your life jackets or noodles to sit on to play a game from the water), Really fun! We also brought floats to lay out on - we just tied them to the dock and enjoyed watching the boats go by while we laid in the water. It was incredible! Hats off to Springs Dock as well. We rented a pontoon boat from them for 2 days and it could not have been easier! The boat was beautiful! If you rent for 2 days they allow you to keep it overnight so we just pulled up to Eva and Jerry's covered dock after the first day and we were ready to go the next morning. Note that if you bring your own boat and have not been to Norris before, the hills are pretty steep and the roads narrow. After arriving we were happy that we chose to not bring our boat - I am not sure our truck would have made it! Renting a boat was much easier! All of that being said, we had an incredible four days. If you are considering Norris Lake for your vacation, choose Eva and Jerry's place. You will not be disappointed!

Second visit and already planning our third to Herod's Hideaway!

This is the second year in a row that we chose Herod's Hideaway for our summer vacation spot. Our review from last year (Boating Family) sums up our visit this year too! Spectacular home, easy no-step access to the lake, gracious home owners, sparkling clean condition, best value on the lake in our opinion. In fact, we are already planning to rent this home in 2012. Eva and Jerry are the best!

2 Family Memorial Weekend Holiday

Our two families of 4 and 5 had an outstanding stay at Herod's Hideway and would highly recommend to Norris Lake vacationers and boaters. The guest house was roomy and well appointed. The hot tub was a great treat after a long day on the lake and the included covered dock only a few steps away was a real bonus. The owners are awesome and truly run there rental home as a GUEST home. Felt as welcome as family. That said, if your looking for privacy, you would never know they live right next door. Mrs. "H" had some baked goodies for us upon our arrival and Mr. "H" started a roaring bonfire complete with supplies for some tasty smores. You two are the best!! Hope to be back, soon!

Multi family summer vacation

We just returned from a fantastic week long stay in August, 2010. The owners that live next door were very accomodating, helpful and not intrusive in any way. We were welcomed with homemade cookies and stuff to make smores at the fire pit. There are zero steps to get to the dock - an easy walk down a gently sloping concrete path made our stay even more enjoyable and easy to get to our our boat. The bedrooms were nicely furnished, as well as the kitchen stocked with needed cooking utinsels. We also enjoyed the hot tub. The covered dock is well maintained with night lighting. There were room for 2 boats under the covered dock and 2 jet ski floating ports. Just minutes away from four marinas (Deerfield, Shanghai, Springs, and Sugar Hollow). We have stayed in 1 other rental property so far at Lake Norris the past two years and this property is truly the most convenient, and full of ameneties that are important to boaters. There is lots to do in the Deerfield development such as sand volleyball, pool, store to get ice, milk, etc. and the kids enjoyed viewing the numerous deer grazing within 100 feet of us every evening. Norris lake Vacation 2010

We had the opportunity to spend the week here with a total of 3 families (5 children) and had a wonderful time. The home is very nice and well stocked with everything you could need. The boat dock was great, good lighting for finding your way in the dark and very beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and would definitely stay here again. THANK YOU!

Perfect Lake Vacation Home!

We just returned from a fantastic week long stay at this beautiful, well maintained, immaculate vacation home, July 31 - August 7, 2010. The owners do in fact live in a separate home attached to the rental property and they are so helpful and hospitable - not intrusive in any way. There were four of us on this family trip and this great home could easily have accomodated another family. When we walked in the door we found freshly baked cookies and smores ingredients! There are zero steps to get to the dock - an easy walk down a gently sloping concrete golf cart path made our stay even more enjoyable and easy, easy, easy to load and unload our boat. The covered dock is well maintained with night lighting. Just minutes away from four marinas (Deerfield, Shanghai, Springs, and Sugar Hollow). We have stayed in 5 other rental properties at Lake Norris the past three years and this property is truly the most convenient, clean, and full of ameneties that are important to boaters. We will definitely return next year! You won't go wrong with this rental.

Wonderful Family Vacation

We found the rental situation to be wonderful. The Herods treated us as their house guests and were there to answer any question or help in any way. The house was wonderfully furnished for our needs and the location to the dock & water were perfect. We needed to rent a boat and found the ability to get to Springs Dock very easy. Overall, we would stay here again and truly enjoyed our summer vacation with our 3 boys.

We were lucky enough to spend 3 nights at the Herod's guest house. Upon arrival Eva presented us with a basket of home made cookies to make us feel welcome. As boaters, the house was just perfect for us with the private, covered slip right on the main body of the lake. Along with my wife and daguhter, we went with another couple and their two daughters. There was plenty of room for the 7 of us. During our stay we were also treated to a bonfire complete with all the makings for 'smores provided by the owners. When the Herod's said if you need anything to just let them know, they really meant it. One night I wanted to fish with my 7 year old on the dock and Jerry provided us with some live bait. We can't say enough about their home and their hospitality. We hope to stay for a week next summer!!!

July 8 - 11, 2007 What a fabulous home complete with fabulous hospitality! Our family was truly blessed to have had the opportunity to stay in this wonderful house! And your home grown tomatoes just hit the spot! May God bless you! August 30 - Sept. 3 2007 Thank you for letting us use your lovely lake house. It was perfect for ur families. We enjoyed jet skiing, tubing, water skiing, fishing from the dock and using your paddle boat. The boys enjoyed getting Very Muddy in your "Beach" We ventured out to different places this year and went all the way to the dam,a beautiful trip! We all left a little tanner, more relaxed and with more lovely memories of Norris Lake and Deerfield. Sept. 5 - 9 2007 Thank you so much for having such a wonderful place for others to enjoy at Norris Lake. We had a great time and really enjoyed getting to know the two of you. We enjoyed watching the boat traffic and sighseeing at Middlesboro's Daniel Boone Museum and the beautiful sights from the Outlook over the valley in the park there as well as the Abe Lincoln Museum close to the Cumberland Gap Tunnel. Thanks for letting us enjoy your guest home! Sept. 14 - 16 We had a blast here!! Thank you so much for letting us stay here! Your place is Very Nice! We did plenty of jet skiing, tubing, and water skiing. Played Corn Hole and some Tennis. Also played sotie Rooke and a dice game called left-right-center. We watched lots of Football, had chicken quisadillas and steaks on the grill. Tonight we are having burgers, brats and hot dogs. For breakfast we've had plenty of eggs and coffee. Some of the guys have seen a huge turtle in the lake and we also did some fishing off the dock. We've all enjoyed our stay and hope to some back! Oct. 3- 8 Thank you very much for sharing your guest house. It was a very relaxing week for us. Jan 18 - Feb. 20 Nice Place, very cozy!
