This house was wonderful. It had it all - quick access to town and the slopes, nice neighborhood, spotlessly clean kitchen and bathrooms, new interior and furnishings, comfortable king-size beds and bunk beds, relaxing livingroom with fireplace, new wrap-around deck, lots & lots of linens, and a huge outdoor hot tub. The hot tub really came in handy the night we got six inches of snow. We have recommended this place to friends and look forward to going back.Did you find this review helpful? This was the first time that we stayed at the Gold King Chalet. Everything was so convenient, from the reservation process to getting there. We booked at the last minute and paid online. The confirmation came the next day along with instructions for check-in, etc. The shuttle service to and from the house was easy to use and the location along the trails was great. I am very picky about the cleanliness of the places we stay in and this by far exceeded our expectations. The hot tub was a high point. The owners were helpful with all of our questions and they have a local management company handle the check-in process. You can tell they have been doing this for some time. Breckenridge is such a beautiful place...when they say welcome to mountain paradise they mean it. We will return again - soon!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Hot tub was really nice, clean, and big. The ceiling fans had thick dust on them and need to be cleaned. What appeared to be mold on the upstairs bathroom vent area needs to be removed. Upstairs bathroom sink was clogged up - water drained slowly. Upstairs bedroom daybed trundle did not pop up; seemed to be broken. Complimentary shuttle service was nice, but will not stay here again due to inconvenience to ski lifts as a snowboarder not being able to easily go in-and-out of the property to the lifts without the shuttle service or driving.Owner response: Thank you much for your feedback. I take pride in making sure our guests have a clean and enjoyable experience at the Gold King Chalet. If there is ever an issue, I do appreciate my guests emailing me directly or calling my management company in Breckenridge to resolve the issue. I do have a cleaning and maintenance staff and 24/7 emergency maintenance available. The fan dust, tile and slow draining sink would have been corrected immediately if a call was made to my management company or me. My cleaning staff has been alerted and will have the issues resolved immediately. As you can see from my other reviews, cleanliness in the Gold King Chalet is a very high priority and many of our guests have commented on how clean and comfortable the house is. I am so glad you enjoyed the hot tub. It is beautiful to look at the stars with the snow falling. As per our emails prior to your arrival, the VIP complimentary shuttle does pick you up directly at the house and will take you to base of Peak 8 or 9 or anywhere in the town of Breckenridge. It allows our guests to have flexibility so everyone can come and go as they please. As the website notes, the ski trail is for intermediate to advanced skiers and everyone seems to have a slightly different definition of these skill levels. Like the ski trails at Breckenridge, there are the occasional areas of flat terrain or narrow areas that are not as convenient for a boarder. But many guests have commented how they enjoy traveling through the quiet isolation of the tree lined Burro Trail as a way to cap off a great day on the mountain. For those guests who prefer to enjoy a bit of Après Ski, the VIP shuttle is a great option, and for those guests who do not want to wait in the snow for a scheduled shuttle, they can call the shuttle to pick them up when they are ready to shop return for an evening of hot tubbing at the Gold King Chalet.

First Timers To Breck AND to VRBO

Never been to Breck or rented from VRBO, but the mountain and this house seemed ideal for our first family vacation in the snow with our son, daughter-in-law and their four year old twins & 18 month old baby. The owner was extremely responsive in answering all of our questions and giving advice regarding every element of our travel and the home. The home was perfect for our group of seven -- pleasantly located, very straight forward and user friendly -- from the grill to the hot tub to the washer / dryer. We never used the private transportation, since we rented a Suburban in Denver, but that is a nice touch others may use. The Breck ski school for the twins was extremely cordial and the kid's loved it. Also, there are a lot of other fun things to do in Breck -- ice skating, sledding at a local hill, snow shoeing, and don't miss the fun evening Nordic sleigh ride and Western dinner show at "Nordic Sleigh Rides". VRBO? Equal to the professional management companies we rent from in Colorado -- surprisingly seamless. The result? We'll be back -- to both!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay! I look forward to having you as my guest again.

We had such a great time, booked this for Thanksgiving weekend with the in-laws and it was perfect! Loved the complimentary shuttle for our teenage kids to take them to the slopes, we walked down to the village and shopped and ate, the whole experience was great! Can't wait to go again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I just wanted to thank you for all of your help and support during our stay in Breckenridge. My family and I had a wonderful and memorable time during our week. Thanks again for everything Nothing to improve. The house is updated and clean. I liked the combination on the front door instead vs. a key. I appreciated little things like paper towel, toilet paper, laundry dish soap etc...which really makes a difference. Both the owner and management responded promptly to concerns or issues.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The home has lots of sleeping room and was clean. Plenty of places to sleep, but not a lot of room for much else if you have adults and kids together. One issue I had was with the loft. The fold out bed (which appeared to be broken during our stay) in the loft was a perfect place for my 11 year old to have her own space away from younger siblings and cousins, the problem was that the loft overlooks the great room/dining room/kitchen. So, if the adults wanted to watch a DVD or even have conversation, she could hear everything - not ideal. Also, the cable connecting the audio output to the DVD player was missing, so we couldn't have watched movies in the great room at all if we hadn't brought our Xbox from home. The proximity to the trails was excellent and accurately described. The trails, streams, and beaver ponds were gorgeous and the weather was beautiful! The hot tub was a big selling point for our family trip, however we were surprised to find that it was on the front porch within clear view from the street. The house is on a small lot, which probably feels more private with tons of snow, but feels pretty exposed in the summer. Evening walkers gave us some odd glances while we enjoyed our hot tub time. The drawback to this house is the lack of living space, for the amount of sleeping space, I assumed more living space...I should have asked a few more questions.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We take great pride in our vacation home and we were sorry to hear that this guest was not fully satisfied with their stay. It appears that the sofa sleeper had been damaged by the previous guest and since we were made aware of this, the entire sleeper mechanism has been replaced. It also has a very comfortable new memory foam mattress. The cable issue was something that could have been resolved with a single phone call to our management office. They are available to help with such matters. We don’t know how the system was disconnected or why but it operates as normal now. The loft is as described, a loft which implies that it is open to the space below. The Living space includes nearly 400 square feet of deck with views of the ski area and sits back nearly 60 feet from the road, down a slope and behind a grove of pine trees. It is a great place to gather for dinner on the picnic bench, barbecue on the natural gas grill and enjoy the large hot tub.

The house was great. Clean, organized and very comfortable. We had a group of 8 and slept comfortably here. The big kitchen table was great for meals and the hot tub was the perfect way to finish a long day on the slopes. The shuttle service was also a big plus. The owners were a great help and very easy to work with. One note that the skiers in our group had an easier time with the trail that led to the mountain from the end of the block than the snowboarders. It was a bit difficult for the riders (more like hike-in).Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

About the owner: Our family has a long history of 5 generations of living in Colorado. Of all the places in Colorado that we could have chosen for our vacation home, we chose Breckenridge. We have been vacationing in Breckenridge all our lives. Here is a picture of a recent rafting trip we took on the Arkansas River.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
Our family chose this location because of the multitude of opportunities that are nearby. In the winter there is downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, ice fishing, skating, and sleigh riding, and snowmobiling. In the summertime there is hiking, fishing, mountain biking, sailing, golfing, shopping, horseback riding, and gold mine tours.
