Kyrenia villa description
Stroll down the narrow winding streets of the Turkish quarter of Kyrenia/ Girne and find amongst the old houses and shops an imposing villa, set within a walled landscaped garden with a private pool (10m x 5m) that is drenched in sun all day. The villa, recently renovated, is extremely spacious and has high ceilings. The old thick walls can still be seen in the well-equipped kitchen and front reception room; one of two comfortable reception rooms which, with the kitchen, open onto the terrace that surrounds the villa. The en-suite bedrooms lead onto a balcony with views of the Beshparmak mountains. The gardens and terraces provide plenty of space for outdoor living and children to play. The butcher and grocer are less than a minute down the road, as is the baker, where freshly baked bread can be bought for breakfast. The busy shopping area, cafes and charming harbour with its historic castle are only a leisurely 10 minute walk away.
The swimming pool: The pool is fitted with the latest salt chlorinator system, a natural way to keep the swimming pool clean with superior water quality. The lower level of chlorine and natural salt in the pool system eliminates sore and burning red eyes, green hair, skin irritation and overpowering chlorine odours. Swimmers feel refreshed and skin retains its soft texture. Bathers enjoy their swimming experience so much more in crystal clear water and don't feel as if they have just taken a bath in chemical soup!
Flight information and transfers: Flights coming into Ercan and Larnaca can be met and guests driven to the villa, please enquire when booking. Car hire can also be arranged. Cars hired in the North of Cyprus usually have free pick up and drop off at Ercan airport, reduced rates from Larnaca.

We stayed at the villa for two weeks and could happily have stayed a lot longer. It had everything we needed and more. Mel met us when we arrived and she got in some essential supplies so we didn't need to stock up at the supermarket straight away. Unfortunately Charlie was unwell so we never got a chance to meet him. Mel was extremely helpful and answered all our questions during our stay. The information left by previous guests was really helpful too and a great idea for future visitors. The weather was great, with the exception of one day when it rained, so we spent most of the time lazing round the pool - well as much as you can with a 10 month old baby! We certainly enjoyed excellent food, both at the harbour and by making good use of the villa's barbecue. We bought meat and vegetables at the local butchers and green grocers, and the nearby bakery did the most wonderful olive bread. Thanks Mary for ensuring everything went perfectly from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. We would definitely use the villa again and are looking at next year's dates already!

Owner response: Thank you Kate and Paul for your fab review, it's great to hear that all went well and that you enjoyed your stay at the villa. I'm pleased that you sampled our local shops-the butchers is one of the best on the island, if not the best, our local bakery bakes the most tasty breads, Mel and Charlie are both stars, I can't praise them enough! We look forward to welcoming you soon. Best wishes, Mary.
TRUELY AMAZING VILLA !!
TRUELY AMAZING VILLA !!
Stayed for 1 week in a group of 6 adults and were gobsmacked at the amount of space there was both inside and out ! The rooms are spacious and has one of the largest kitchens we have seen in a villa and the fridge with water/ice dispenser were a god-send !, The swimming pool was amazing and the water crystal clear and never too cold due to the hot day long sun !! The garden is very pretty with orange, lemon ,lime, and pomegranate trees and numerous plants and shrubs and in the evenings the garden is full of wonderful aromas which make it perfect for alfresco dining or a glass of wine or three !!! There are a couple of stores close by including a bakery (yummy fruit bread ) which is very convenient should you run out of milk etc although a 10-15 minute walk takes you to the Lemar supermarket which stocks everything you will ever need through your stay ,and where you will find the most delicious jam doughnuts we have ever had even at home !!! The harbour is only a short distance for various restaurants and bars but on the way you must venture to The Colony hotel roof-top terrace for an early evening cocktail in their "Happy Hour 4pm-7pm" although I will pre-warn you they are very potent and wont need to many should you wish to see the evening out !! We had the most excellent break and Thankyou Mary for letting us share a little piece of paradise and hope to return again one day !! The Lappers,Sanders and Mitchells !!

The villa is ideally placed for all amenities and local attractions, as you found a car is not necessary. Suzy and I hope we can welcome you all back sometime soon. Best wishes, Mary.
Fantastic relaxing break!
Fantastic relaxing break!
Wow! I have stayed in some villas over the years but this one must be one of the best. The villa itself is very spacious and fully fitted with all that you could want. We went with family and friends for my husband's 40th, the grounds and pool are superb with some great areas for al fresco dining. The TV lounge was good as we took our Wii - great for a bit of family entertainment. The location to town is only a short distance (although walking in mid August is tough in the heat of the day!) Kyrenia itself is a charming town and the Dolmus service is fun to explore other neighbouring towns and villages. The service provided by Charlie & Mel was great, there was a small problem with the pool during our stay but this was sorted very quickly with the help of Mary and didn't disrupt our plans. The transfer service from Larnaca was very reasonable and reliable again all arranged beforehand with Mary. We were looking for a relaxing holiday in great accommodation and this villa lived up to every expectation. Thank you Mary,

Fantastic Villa in Turkish Quarter Kyrenia
Fantastic Villa in Turkish Quarter Kyrenia
We stayed in the villa for 1 week in June 2012. 4 adults in 2 spacious bedrooms both en-suite.Fantastic weather, and we were thankful for the air con throughout the villa. The villa would be excellent for families as there are an additional 2 bedrooms that share an extremely large family bathroom. There are 2 sitting rooms downstairs, perfect for an afternoon snooze (or so my father advised) and a large pool & garden area with plenty of seating and pool beds. The whole villa is enclosed so families feel extremely secure. We didn't hire a car as we prefer to walk. There is a butchers, local bakery & local shop within 2 minutes walk. Another shop opens all hours within 5 mins walk and a supermarket, Ice cream parlour, Chinese takeaway, Burger King equivalent approx 10 mins walk. On an evening there were great restaurants (Ikimiz, No 14, Efendi) within 1-2 mins walk. All recommended by us. Kyrenia Harbour is a lovely stroll (approx 5-10 mins) where there are numerous restaurants and bars. The best place we found for daytime snacks and the best evening meal was the 'Chimera Restaurant (Castle end of the harbour). All were excellent value for money with fresh fish, meat & great views. We will be booking the same villa in the near future. We recommend the Wednesday Market, St Hilarions castle (Get a taxi to take you there and back), & Bellapais Abbey. We didn't eat out in Bellapais in the evening, however if you fancy it most restaurants there will pick you up and return you home for free! The owner of the villa arranged our transfer from Larnaca and provisions for our arrival. My only disappointment was that we should have booked another week......

Owner response: Thank you for your brilliant review. Absolutely delighted you all had a wonderful holiday. The villa is ideally placed in the town, great local shops and restaurants. We really look forward to welcoming you again sometime soon! Best wishes, Mary.
We stayed in this villa for two weeks during a very hot August. The villa is spacious and well laid out. The bedrooms were large, each with air conditioning. The balcony had a table and chairs, lovely for viewing the mountains or looking over the pool. The pool was simply amazing, so clean and crystal clear. The whole family enjoyed not having stinging eyes! The garden was pretty and well kept. Mel was there to meet us, having got supplies ready for us. Mel took us to the local supermarket a couple of times, which was helpful and much appreciated. The traditional local bakery was amazing and sold lovely cheese bread every morning. The new bakery opposite the front gate was not open. The harbour is very picturesque although expensive for eating. Lots of local restaurants provided quality food such as 'The House' (good for Sunday lunch), 'Peanuts'. Local taxi drivers were friendly as well as local residents. Kyrenia is full of historic buildings and the castle on top of the mountain is worth a visit. Mary the owner was really helpful and answered our questions before we booked. My youngest son enjoyed feeding the cats every morning. Lovely holiday, thank you

Owner response: Thank you for your review Al, I am very happy you all enjoyed your holiday. Delighted you were pleased with the villa and you are right, the pool is amazing! Kyrenia itself has so much to offer and is also a great base for exploring North Cyprus. I hope we can welcome you again sometime soon. Best wishes, Mary.
We stayed at this villa in July, the weather was EXTREMELY hot!!! The pool was great for cooling down-the children spent many happy hours playing and chilling out. Reading and generally relaxing in the beautiful garden was a pleasure! The Villa is large, plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. Great facilities and tastefully decorated. Well located, great restaurants, within walking distance: Peanuts, Dragon. Niazzi's, Lagoon, Beyti to name but a few. We had an interesting time visiting the local 'Wednesday Market', an exciting time go karting in Nicosia, lazy days on various beaches, wandering around Kyrenia town and bowling at King Leisure centre in Kyrenia-this was a great way to cool down, bowling and other activities for children, all air conditioned! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to North Cyprus and are already looking forward to future visits.

Owner response: Thank you for your review!! I'm pleased you all enjoyed your stay in spite of the heat, July can be a scorcher. Your dates for next year are penciled in. Best wishes, Mary.
We stayed with our family for a week May/June, which was a week away for all of us and included our daughter getting married! The villa was very good, with the swimming pool making the place absolutely excellent. The gardens were absolutely stunning. The layout of two en suite bathrooms helped us all have privacy, and the balconies allowed sitting out on two levels. The kitchen was good and the fridge- amazing! The windows allowed a good flow of cool air, which helped keep us all cool. The villa was spacious and we all enjoyed it very much. The towels were rather small for grown ups and were filthy by the end of the week. Large bath sheets would have been much better. The wrought iron by the stairs helped us dry the towels. Coming from the UK, the lack of recycling facilities was a bit of a shock. Mellie and Charlie looked after us royally. The supermarket was near, as were local restaurants. we enjoyed ;The House' very much as well as an old favourite- Niazzi's.

Owner response: Thank you for your review. I am pleased that the villa, pool and gardens did not disappoint and that you enjoyed your stay. We are fortunate with our location, shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Mel and Charlie take good care of our guests and thanks to their attention to detail we now have guests returning, two, three, four years on the trot! I'm sorry you were not happy with the size of the bath towels (140cm x 98cm). Change of linen and towels as well as extra cleaning can be arranged. Unfortunately recycling as we know it in the UK has not hit North Cyprus yet, throwing all household rubbish into one bin can feel pretty strange for a few days! Best wishes, Mary.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Kyrenia. This lovely spacious villa is in an excellent location a 10 minute walk to the harbour and restaurants and is perfect for family holidays. The web site really does not do the house justice,it's well equiped and comfortable, the pool and gardens gorgeous.Mary has thought of lots of extra touches with the provision of water to the use of a local mobile phone! The local people are very friendlyand Northern Cyprus offers something for everyone. Mary, Mel and Charlie are helpful and informative, providing an amazing service from organising the smooth airport pick up and car hire to an initial grocery shop. Our daughter and her husband left their house keys behind, a message was waiting on our arrival home and the keys returned to the UK within three days. You cant get much better than that! We are all looking forward to our next stay Thank you.

Owner response: Dear Hilary and Tony, Glad we could help with the keys! Thank you for all of your brilliant comments. Mel, Charlie and I try our best to make sure our guests are happy and thoroughly enjoy their stay with us. It is always lovely to be appreciated! Best wishes, Mary.
We arrived at the villa when it was cloudy - not a great start to our first visit to Northern Cyprus. Mel was waiting to show us round, and even though the sky remained grey our mood was lifted as we were shown round the villa. My husband & I had gone away with my parents celebrating a special birthday and had booked the villa due to location and the fact that both double rooms had ensuite bathrooms. What we did not expect, even though we had read previous reviews of just how large and well proportioned all the rooms were; how sylish and well furnished the villa was - the internal pictures really don't do the villa justice. The water and ice on tap was a fantastic bonus. The garden is wonderful and the pool really nice as it is not chlorinated. It would have been good to have had a net to clean out the leaves after windy days, but this was not a problem in the least. The walk down to the harbour is easy and you really dont need a car at all to enjoy Kyrenia. As the volcanic ash resulted in us staying in Kyrenia an extra 8 days, having a car was a bonus as we got to explore. Beware the one way system! Mel and Charlie were stars when it came to day to day issues, ie we hardly saw them as there were no problems! When it came to us being "stranded" Mel, Charlie and Mary were so helpful, we may have been unable to leave Cyprus but we were delighted to be able to stay. If you are a light sleeper you need to be aware of the minaret calling prayers. In spite of the villa being in the town, it is very quiet and a really peaceful and relaxing base for a quiet holiday. All in all this villa was amazing it was a perfect setting for lounging by the pool, bbq'ing and sipping local very acceptable wine. Thank you and see you again really soon ( I hope someone is feeding the cats!)

All that we expected and more!
All that we expected and more!
We stayed in this lovely Kyrenia house in October half-term, and we had a really super time despite the monsoon conditions! We really liked the house…it has been developed it into an all-mod-cons place without ruining the style or feel of the original house. It is a perfect sanctuary in an un-touristy area…ideal! And also it is nicely equipped and furnished – we find that when there are nice things in a property they tend to be looked after better. The house is fairly cavernous in places, and we are glad the owners have not fallen into the trap of over-stuffing it with too much furniture and personal items. This means it is easily cleaned and it is obvious that it is nice and clean. But there is enough furniture and storage to put things away and keep the place nice and tidy. We liked the simplicity of the style and décor, but at the same time we did not wont for anything. We were particularly pleased with the fridge which has ice on tap – great! The pool is delightful...one can have a refreshing swim and then dry off without one's hair and skin going all dry and manky. It is a pleasant walk to the town, including the harbour area, but to be honest because of the quality and outlook of the house it is no hardship to stay in for the evening. The garden is lovely and by moving the garden table and chairs around one can have a different perspective each night i.e something different to look at . The transfers (as recommended by the owners) went smoothly, and Mel and Charlie (who look after the place) are just dead nice people who are helpful without being intrusive. We have rented several places through Holiday Rentals over the years and this place of all of the places we have rented is unique in that it has exceeded our expectations. It's taken us this long to write this...we're tempted to say it's rubbish because we don't want to scupper future bookings for ourselves...but it isn't...it's fab!!!
