This brand-new cottage (2005) features elements not available anywhere else on the Harpswell peninsula. (NOW INCLUDING FREE KAYAKS) The living room is situated on the upper floor and offers a fantastic vista of the Atlantic through spacious picture windows and a 12 by 17 foot deck overlooking the working lobster boats. (Enjoy the cool nights with the gas logs while looking at the sparkling lights across the bay.) In addition, the tree-top deck with inside stairway offers both a breathtaking view of the ocean as well as an opportunity to experience sunsets at cocktail time. And all this is accomplished within a completely private setting on two acres surrounded with tall pines. Naturally, there is a Right Of Way to assure seaside strolls both to the rocky coast of the Atlantic and/or to Lowell’s cove.
The fully appointed kitchen is bright and airy, includes all amenities, and is open to a large dining room with views of the ocean. Enjoy your breakfast with the rising sun on the screened-in deck off of the dining room or seat your expanded guest list for a seashore dinner at our table that easily holds 12. Later you will want to cook marshmallows and tell tall tales around the outside patio fire pit.
Sleeping for eight includes two bedrooms (one queen and two extra-long twins) on the ground floor that opens to the front yard. The master bedroom on the second floor features a king-size bed and the loft area has bunk beds. (All beds have new quality matresses- Yep, we also have rented nice places with terrible beds.)
Orr’s and Bailey Islands are magical places that offer dozens of interesting activities that will encourage you to stay close to your new haven. Kayaking at the world headquarters of H2Outfitters, the Giant Steps and/or the town beach with its sandy shore, Mackerel and Lowell’s Coves with world class Maine picture post card settings, lots of long walks on quiet ways, or art offerings in every direction. Eat at the famous Cooks Lobster House or lunch on chowder at Prince’s next to the one and only granite crib-bridge between Orr’s and Bailey Islands- and don’t miss treats at the ice cream palace within a short walk of the cottage.
Day trips within 45 minutes of Orr’s will likely include Freeport with LL Bean and the dozens of discount outlets that fill the town, but should also include Bowden College in Brunswick, Wiscasset that is dubbed the prettiest village in Maine and has too many antique shops to count, the Maine Maritime Museum next to the Bath Iron Works in Bath, and the fully restored downtown seaport of Portland with scores of eating and shopping opportunities. Any of these trips offer daylong activities that include something for everyone in your troop.

Why the Owner Chose Orrs Island
Orr's and Bailey Islands are unique in all of Maine. So far out into the Atlantic that the Navy built two towers to look for German submarines... but connected to the mainland by bridges for easy access to Freeport and other wonderful destinations. Gentle breezes and warm summer days melt the rest of the world away.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
We love to walk the islands for morning coffee and muffins with the locals and go rock hopping on the Atlantic coast. We buy our lobsters from our closest neighbor who is a lobster fisherman- nothing is like lobster that were caught just that day.

Treetops on Orrs Island was a great place to stay. Truly in the treetops at the end of a lane, the house was secluded and quiet, yet it was just a short walk or drive to so many great places. It was lovely and bright with all the amenities you could ask for; comfy beds, clean bathrooms, a great big kitchen and plenty of space for our family to spread out. We really liked playing games in the family room at the very top of the house. The views from both decks and the crow’s nest were just beautiful. We had a great time cooking lobsters on the special outdoor deck. What a great idea to keep the mess and smell outside! We were fortunate enough to get some fabulous chowders, wonderful scones and muffins from the Salt Cod Café before they closed for the season. If you are there when they are open don’t miss it! The owner of the property was great. He was very accommodating in letting us come in one day early for a special family event and he always responded promptly to my many inquiries. You will definitely enjoy your stay at Treetops on Orr’s Island. It is clean, quiet and has all the comforts of home. We didn’t want to leave!

The description and photographs for the house are accurate. The house has a great layout, is comfortable and clean. The owner was quick to answer my questions. Located at the end of a dirt (and very bumpy) lane, on top of a hill, it offers privacy and a lovely view of the Bay. The kitchen is roomy and well equipped. We did not need the fourth bedroom which is very tiny, with only a set of bunk beds. The other 3 bedrooms were roomy and very comfortable. Bathrooms were modern and clean and there was plenty of hot water for our party of 6. The upper deck provided sunshine and a great view of the bay and the sunrise.. You could also watch the moon rise over the treetops. The deck off the kitchen was great for morning coffee and lunches. The rooftop deck offered great views during the day and was a cozy place to star gaze at night. We were lucky enough to catch a meteor shower one evening! The living room was a comfortable gathering space and the gas stove was more than adequate to take the chill off on several cool evenings. We enjoyed our s'mores at the fire pit. The neighbors we met on walks down the lane were all very friendly. The rocky shore of the bay is a short walk through the woods (had to make my own path) or down the lane and up Back Bay Lane. Did not get to use the kayaks - we simply ran out of time. We managed a bike ride, but riding on the islands can be a challenge, as there are lots of hills. Our first trip to Orr's Island, it is a lovely and a great place for base camp. We made trips to Bailey Island, Wiscassett, Brunswick, Lewiston (Bates College), Portland, Camden and Freeport. Plenty of opportunities for antiquing if that's your thing. My daughter and son-in-law celebrated their wedding anniversary with a lobster dinner at Cooks Lobster House, on Bailey Island. I had the best lobster roll ever at a little place on the left, at the end of the bridge to Bailey Island. Shaw's is an easy drive for groceries and the general store on Bailey's was convenient if you only needed a few items. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable place with a location convenient to explore more of Maine I would highly recommend Treetops.

The house is beautiful and accomodated our large graduation party easily. After everyone was gone, the house was wonderfully snug and comfortable for our small family with tea on the porch watching the sun rise and puzzles and games in the living room. Lots of hot water for everyone and a great kitchen!
