Our one-bedroom apartment is in a landmark building at the hub of one of the best residential and shopping areas of London. Hyde Park is across the street to the North; the Knightsbridge Underground station is across the street to the South; and Harrods is only a block away. The flagship Burberry and Jaeger stores, as well as six restaurants and a pub, are on the lower floors of the building. The building is handicap-accessible, with a doorman and elevators, and there are no steps from the street.
The building is in the shape of an open "Vee". Our third-floor apartment faces North on the inside of the Vee, away from street noise. It is charmingly furnished, in the English manner, to the high standards of one's own home rather than to those of a rental unit. Both the bedroom and the living room are air-conditioned.
The living room has TV/VCR/DVD player, and a stereo/CD player. The telephone provides high speed internet access, voice mail, and fax. The dining table will seat six guests. The kitchen has all appliances, including cookstove, oven microwave, and washer and dryer, as well as silverware, china, and utensils for up to six people. The bedroom has side-by-side twin beds, and an en-suite tiled bathroom with tub and power shower.
Cleaning service is provided twice a week. There is a doorman/porter on the main entrance 24 hours a day, and the building is secure at all times.
Some of the best shopping in London is in the surrounding area. In addition to the Burberry and Jaeger stores, the Harvey Nichols department store is across the street, with Harrods a block away. Sloane Street has all kinds of internationally famous stores such as Cartier, Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, Armani, Coach, Hermes, and many others. Banks and American Express are also in the immediate area, together with drug stores, groceries, and newsagents.
Many museums, including the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum are five to eight minutes' walk away, down Brompton Road past Harrods. At the Royal Albert Hall, a similar distance west along Knightsbridge, there are concerts and events several nights a week. Buckingham Palace is about a ten-minute walk east, via Hyde Park Corner. West End theatres are a short bus or taxi ride away.
Across the street to the North, Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens offers a place to walk, run, ride, or swim. There is a popular children's playground as you enter the Park, next to the riding ring where members of the Household Cavalry from Knightsbridge Barracks do their training.
We have owned this apartment for 22 years and have had many happy visitors. Please call us for details, or see web and e-mail information. We hope you will stay with us.
