Perfect ocean front home for pet vacation!

I began my stay at Cottontail Acres January 4, 2012 for two nights-- loved it so much that I extended two more nights! The house is comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. Very organized and pet friendly - was not worried that my german shepherds were going to knock an expensive object off the table with their big, happy, wagging tails. The place is decorated straight from the pages of Pottery Barn with additional artwork of whimsy. Just a cute, clean, ocean front cottage with nice, private fenced yard for the dogs. The beach was an easy five minute walk and very dog friendly. Was just perfect! There is also a general/grocery store within five minutes for everything that was needed during the stay. Holly was available for questions and for extending the stay. Just perfect! Will certainly be back! Thank you sharing this lovely place!

perfect get away for sisters and dogs

We spent 7 perfect days away from it all at Cottontail Acres. The house is MUCH BETTER than pictures on website show. Well equipped kitchen and definately dog friendly. The property is very secluded and very peaceful. The front garden reminded me of fairytail land, so much so that i took many pictures to show to my very British neighbor. I have rented houses through VRBO previously- but this is absolutely one where i will return. The grounds are perfect for walks to the beach, or just to the second deck to look for whales etc. the grounds are well maintained, but not too fussy that i worried about my dogs exploring. the house was immaculate- but again not too fussy. We spent the week reading walking along the beach (which was mostly ours alone) watching movies at night and just hanging out. the only thing is missed, and not a big deal, was no washer and dryer in the house. Overall i STRONGLY recommend this rental and will be back next year for sure!

We do have a washer and dryer in the house, our mistake, we should have asked if you wanted to use them and could have opened the area where they are (the second closet area in the master bedroom)! So sorry, next time you will have access to them both!

This is a comfortable, well-equipped home, located close to a beach that is uninhabited for miles around. Talk about a place to bring your dog! (Mine could not believe that we were actually going to leave this place after the weekend was over.) The house itself has an open kitchen with a very long farmhouse table, sufficient to seat many more people than we brought. The master bedroom is spacious. The other bedroom with two twins is very nice but not as big. However, the separate bedroom above the unattached garage is charming. The walk to the beach is relatively easy if you take the roadway that adjoins the rear of the property, and it takes about 20 minutes to get down to the sand. Once you are there, you feel as though you are the only person who has discovered this part of the country. Absolutely wonderful. Dog and kid heaven. Thanks, Holly, for a wonderful time at your lovely home.

Special place to vacation with family, friends and pets

Tremendously enjoyable vacation with family and friends who really appreciated the uniqueness of the location. Not necessarily the easiest place to get to, but well worth the effort. My adult children and long time friends enjoyed the remoteness with all the comforts of home. We hiked, played ping pong, had big dinners and did a good amount of siteseeing always coming "home" to enjoy all that was available to us at Cottontail Acres. Favorites included hot tub lounging under the stars and late nights talking around a tricky puzzle. It was great to have the ability to enjoy our dog with us in the most dog friendly place I have been to.

We loved Cottontail Acres. what a great location.... panoramic ocean views, easy trail to a private beach, great fenced yard for young children or pets. Cottaintail Acres was like walking back into my childhood and great experiences on the Cape but more comfortable and peaceful. As soon as I walked thru the gates my blood pressure dropped like a rock and from that point until we had to pack up and very reluctantly depart it was all a distict, hope to be repeated for a longer stay experience that is still with me over a week later! The grounds are magnificent largely due to the owners having the wisdom to retain the wild nature of the Mendocino Coast which itself is a character of itself. Beautiful and powerful driven wholly by the wind and Mother Nature doing her best to impress with the ocean. Deer, a tremendous variety of birds and all fitting perfectly into an undisturbed setting that would pacify the harshest of moods. The main house is exactly what I had envisioned and did not disappoint in any regard. Instructions when and where needed with many helpful hints and ideas for exploring the coastline but we were perfectly content to stay inside our fortress and in just a few short days felt calmer than I have in many, many years. Sleep came without a thought; uninterrupted sleep of the content and happy after an enjoyable day and evening spent outside and in the comfort of a home carefully and casually designed to put me to ease without fear of harming any of the extremely comfortable furnishings. No pretence at all to glitz yet every comfort I wanted for including a selection of movies that even had me laughing. After the thoughts of chaining the front gate and unpugging the telephone passed my next plan was to set about arranging the family schedules for the next visit. As a Type A+ personality this is just what the doctor ordered but too short! My recommendation without a single reserve is made from the heart and directed to those of you looking for the "perfect" place to relax, unwind and feel closer to whoever is lucky enough to be with you during your stay at Cottontail Acres. My husband and I spent a wonderful week at Cottontail Acres with our two dogs. It was the most perfect location for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the coastal surroundings. We woke each morning to deer in the yard and spent hours walking along the peaceful beach with Piper and Beacon, who thought we had planned this vacation just for them, I'm sure. This was our first visit to Cottontail Acres but it won't be our last. Thanks so much for making such a special property available.

Cottontail Acres gave our family with an exceptional weekend at the coast. The location, environment, quaint accommodation, garden and beach access surpassed our expectations. Our kids and our dog reveled in the experience. I even got to kitesurf off the beach which is probably a first for Irish Beach.

We were breathless the moment we arrived, stepped out of the car, looked past the white picket fence and were greeted my bright colored spring flowers. Our long trek brought us to peaceful hesitation as our eyes and soul took in the mastery of the view. We could of counted the steps it took us to get to the cleff over looking the ocean, it's rumble being heard the moment we shut off the engine of our car-that's really close! The pictures on the website don't due this property justice. It superceided my expectations and made for a dream weekend and pleasant birthday celebration. We stayed at this wonderful home a couple years ago in July of 2009. I never wrote a review but in looking again for homes to rent this summer I realize how much I look at the reviews so I'm going back and writing reviews on past rentals. We LOVED our stay in this home. It was perfect for our family trip. The fenced yard was absolutely perfect for the kids. We didn't have to worry about them as they were completely safe in the yard. The view was gorgeous. This is the perfect property for exploring, relaxing and making memories. We were also able to go on a horse ride along the beach. Watching the sunset wtih a glass of wine on the deck down at the end of the property was the best. Thank you for sharing your home wtih us.

A Treasure

Spent Easter on the Mendocino Coast. Loved having the Loft for the teenagers to use. Played baseball, flew kites and made forts from driftwood on the beach. Adults, kids and dogs exhausted each evening. Loved the HUGE dining table with everything we needed in the kitchen. (Espresso maker-we loved it!) Really enjoyed all the fun decorating touches throughout the house, even beach towels which we forgot. The owners are very kid and dog friendly, dog beds and kid movies were great, lots of games too. Pleasantly surprised as the house was very clean and neat!! We weren't sure beforehand since it is kid and dog friendly and some places we've taken the dogs have been very rundown. Wonderful yard full of daffodils for our visit. Ping pong was a nice thing for the teens to do in the evenings. Went to Queenies in Elk, breakfast was good, wholesome and tasty. My sister has already made reservations at this house for this summer for all of us girls in the family and we hope to make it an annual event. Oh, my daughter just reminded me, the owner left Easter treats for us also. Nice touch.

My family stayed at Cottontail Acres and had a wonderful time. The home is great for kids (I have a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old). They loved playing in the yard and the bedroom with two twin beds was perfect for them. My parents stayed in the loft and enjoyed it tremendously as well. Both the home and the loft are well maintained and comfortable. We plan on coming back next year. Thumbs Up! for Cottontail Acres.

We stayed at Cottontail Acres March 18-20, and had one of the best vacations ever. Walks on the beach which is just a short walk away, home-cooked meals in the spacious kitchen (and pots and pans and everything already there), eating the meals at the long wood table, all of us gathered on the couch to watch "Borne Ultimatum," our dog Abbey running on the grass or the beach, chasing tennis balls, all of us (dog too) visiting Point Arena Lighthouse and Mendocino, eating a fine meal at the brewery in Fort Bragg and quaffing a stout or two, looking up at the stars from the hot tub, sunning ourselves on the deck because we had some no-wind sunny spells--what I'm saying is that our family had a great time. Thanks Holly, (as others have said), for allowing us to visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cottontail. The whirlpool was great at night and the deck was a wonderful spot to take in the scenery. The home was well-equipped - we had a dinner for 6 with no problems. The guest house was comfortable. The key to this rental is the beach access and it is truly special. I ran every morning along the coast... very few people. Almost like a private beach.

What a wonderful place to spend Thanksgiving week. We were all thrilled with everything from the house to the beach. Thank you so much for sharing your special place with us and everyone. Our two Boxers were so happy to be there I think they thought we had moved. When we got home they didn't eat for two days they were so depressed. We loved Holly's property. We stayed there with my daughter and son-in-law and my 14 yr. old granddaughter and her friend plus my sister joined us for a few days. There were 3 german shepherds between us and they truly loved the place too. We were surprised at how nice this place is considering she allowed us to bring all 3 dogs. It was more than comfortable, very warm and welcoming with all the amenities we needed and then some. It was the most relaxing vacation we had in a long time. Perfect to just sit out on the deck, watch the dogs romping around the yard, gaze out at Pt. Arena lighthouse and sip our wine. Truly heaven. Holly thought of EVERYTHING. We will go back. It was very hard packing to leave at the end of our week long stay at Cottontail Acres. The two of us enjoyed exactly what we hoped to find for the vacation: quiet, peaceful nature, comfort, privacy. Solid, no-nonsense environment, just as you might want in your own home – unlike so many who want to look like just another hotel. Cooking is easy if that’s your wish, what with the available utensils (nice knives!), and supplies conveniently at hand in the Manchester supermarket, or at the Friday’s farmers’ market in Mendocino (at noon). Not to forget the cute little wood stove with its own personality and dragon. Must visit again.

Holly: We had a wonderful time over Labor Day weekend at Cottontail Acres. Our 8 year old grandson loved the horse swing and our 2 year old granddaughter the sandbox boat. The walks early in the morning with the puppy on the beach was too fun. And in the evening the sunsets and listening to the waves on the beach, who could ask for more. We really loved our weekend here. For my birthday all my kids and grandkids stayed here. Beach is so pretty and short walk down a path. My little grandaughter brought her puppy, and was so happy. Adults played and played into the night with children safe in their room. Hot tub so NICE. Holly was very helpful. Loved and will recommend to family and friends. What a grand birthday for me.

We are so happy to find such a beautiful place. Are three year old had so much fun play outside. He loved the horse swing and all the games and puzzles. The house is so warm and cozy. Everything you need is right there. The master bed was so wonderful. We never had a better night sleep. Whats so great about this place besides the breath taking view. Thank you Holly and Dave for the most wonderful weekend. We searched for several weeks for a beach location that would also accept our 2 little dogs. This was so much more than we ever expected! The house was beautiful, cozy, immaculate and equipped with everything. The view and grounds were breathtaking. We walked the beach every day and the dogs couldn't get enough. We saw 12 deer one morning. Raul loved relaxing in the hot tub. I read an entire book. Michael wore himself out by hiking and just being outside. The selection of movies kept us all happy and entertained. The grocery store was very close and convenient if you forget something. It was so hard to leave this ocean paradise so we've made our plans to return in July. Thank you so much for your lovely home, the wine and the ornament. This was truly our best vacation yet. What a wonderful three nights we had at Cottontail Acres. The dogs and I enjoyed some wonderful times on the beach while Dave relaxed on the porch with a book. It was quiet, inviting, and more than we hoped for. The crashing waves at night was a perfect lullabye. Holly, thanks SO much for the great bottle of wine and the lighthouse ornament. My wife Amanda,our daughter Meghan,Hank (the dog)and myself cannot remember a more relaxing, refreshing vacation. Cottontail acres welcomed us with fresh flowers and a nice bottle of wine;a nice gesture that set the tone. The home, grounds and beach were beautiful, peaceful and spacious for a high energy dog. The home has everything you need to enjoy the beach and days on the northern coast.(one of our favorites) Each morning Amanda and I would share our dreams over coffee while watching our happy baby girl explore in her walker.(Maybe the message over the master bed played on our subconscience?) Every night after the baby went down we soaked in the hot tub under the stars and listened to the sound of the ocean. After we watched movies and indulged in oreos and milk by the warm fireplace.(While Hank snored) Cottantail Acres is definitely a home we will visit again!

WOW!!!! What a place and what a vacation. If this was our second home it would have been exactly the way we would have wanted it. We reluctantly departed Cottontail Acres after 5 days. Our two daughters and Sheltie loved the house and the grounds. Definitely the most well appointed vacation rental at which we've stayed. One could feel the stress evaporating as soon as the gate was closed. Toby and John (Ross Ranch) gave us a great ride on the beach. After a day of activity (hikes, tree-climbing, beach walks, sightseeing, shopping), don't forget to watch the stars at night. We caught the early part of this year's Perseid meteor shower. This is a great getaway.

Simply put, the perfect beach house, in the perfect location. The house is extremely comfortable and very well equipped - If you've forgotten to pack something, Holly probably has it waiting for you! The first time you walk to the end of the garden, and look out over the ocean it will take your breath away. We enjoyed everything the local area has to offer - canoeing, Mendocino Botanical Gardens, the redwood forests, breakfast at Queenies and so much more, but we always looked forward to coming 'home' to Cottontail Acres. If you are researching vacation rentals in the Mendocino area, stop now and book immediately. I have never been happier with a vacation spot - enchanting location, beautifully appointed house, and too many thoughtful extras to count. And Holly's enthusiasm for her bit of heaven-on-the-beach was positively contageous - you won't want to leave. Perfect for ALL ages and activity levels; our group ranged from 2 to 70 years old, human to canine, city-goers to lazy country folk. Get booked and get goin', before someone else does!

Everything was what you need and more. Holly provided so many extra touches it was almost rediculous! Kid and doggie friendly to the max! Thank you so much!!! We can't wait to come back again! We had a great week. Cottontail Acres pleased us beyond our expectations. There was something for everyone to do, active or inactive, 1 year old to 77 years old. Perfect for a family reunion. The gift of abalone on Saturday night was wonderful.. Thank you.

My extended family enjoyed an amazing week at Cottontail Acres last month. We walked on the beach, sat in the hot tub, watched movies, and reconnected with each other. Holly provided many welcoming touches not mentioned in the advertisement. There is no way you could be disappointed with a Cottontail Acres vacation. Our time there was a gift. In Feb 2006 our family had a memorable stay at Cottontail Acres. The huge fenced yard and direct access down to miles of beach was like a dream come true for our two dogs. By the second day they were almost too tired to play. Our two young boys loved the board games, kid videos and toys available for guest use. We especially enjoyed the view from the dining table. We could look down the length of Manchester State Beach to the Pt.Arena lighthouse while we ate our meals. The house was comfortable, the kitchen fully equipped and the owners had many thoughtful extras and personal touches. We loved our stay and hope to return again. The Pollock family, Cloverdale CA

My family and I had such a great time at Cottontail Acres. Holly and Dave did such a remarkable job with this place and were very accommodating. The house, grounds and view are more beautiful than we could've imagined. My son loved having the separate loft all to himself. My wife and daughter went on a horseback ride on the beach and had an excellent time. We played baseball, watched movies, played games, walked on the beach and looked at the ocean and lighthouse from the porch. I really can't say enough about what a terrific place this is. It was very hard to leave. We’ll definitely be back.Thanks Holly and Dave,Brian, Diane, Nick, Becca, Gracy and Gretzky

We had a fabulous time at Cottontail Acres! From the moment we walked in the door, we felt at home. The owners went out of their way to make sure everything was just right. There were tons of supplies (and treats!) for our dogs, electrical outlet safety covers for our toddler, wood in stove, and great "housewarming" gifts for us on the table. The setup of the house is great. It rained the entire 4 days we were there, so we spent most of the time inside. We did tons of cooking and found that the kitchen had everything we needed. The beach is absolutely gorgeous - can't be beat. Truly a wonderful place to stay . . . Thanks!

A wonderful time in late Feb. 2006. Our two dogs appreciated the many thoughtful touches throughout the property, as did we. Homey, comfortable, quiet and relaxing. Everything we needed for a relaxing vacation on the spectacular Mendocino Co. coast.

Wow! Cotton Tail Acres was the perfect getaway for a romantic weekend with my husband. A stunning sunset enjoyed on the porch with cocktails! Morning coffee while walking among the wildlife (bunnies and deer!). The whimsical decor inside and out provided that "extra touch" - loved the hot tub! We enjoyed the scenic drive to Mendocino - but were more than happy to get back to our "private retreat"! Loved it - can't wait to go back! Next trip we'll be bringing the whole family for fun on the beach and horse back riding! Thank you for your tremendous attention to detail and hospitality!!

I have stayed at Cottontail Acres twice and each time has been wonderful and enchanting. The house is very comfortable with the perfect deck for evening sunsets and cocktails . Never before have I enjoyed such a lovely expanse of headlands at a private residence. The little hike down to the private beach is just enough to get some exercise but not so much to tire one out before collecting sea shells. This is a very special place and I feel quite fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay there.

What a great weekend. A horseback ride on the beach with the seals watching us and playing in the surf, relaxing in the hot tub to sooth the hind quarters, a glass of wine in hand watching the spectacular sunset, going inside and cooking up fresh lobster and sit at a table that easily seats 10 people. We then retired to a comfortable living room and watched movies ( a nice selection). Sleeping accommodations were very comfortable. We drank our coffee on the porch looking out at sea, occasionaly we would spot deer nearby, we always watched the quail walk thru the yard and rabbits darting in and out of the bushes. If you love nature--want to get away from it all--Cottontail Acres is the place. Terry and Debbie

Great view, we loved the bench above the beach, fun spot to watch the sunsets and have a glass of wine. We saw so many deer and so close to us! Thank you Holly, we loved every minute there. From the comfortable bed to the movie selection. Same time next year?!
