Stanardsville cottage description
The Carriage House Studio at Fairhill Farm
Delight in the bold views of the Blue Ridge Mountains while lounging on your private deck at the Carriage House on Fairhill Farm, a working farm of 142 acres.
Warmly appointed with a mahogany bed, leather sofa and burgundy accents, the Carriage House is perfect for a comfortable and cozy romantic retreat, anniversary weekend getaway, or wonderful summer vacation.
Wake up to the gentle sounds of a peaceful country morning. Enjoy a cup of coffee while watching a fox scamper across the field. Meander down the road and visit with Smoky "the one-eyed cat" as she sits on the fence post. Soak up the morning sun while reading in a chair next to the pond. Hike our private trails on the 270 acres of our Fairhill Farm and High Fields Farm. Fish in, or relax by, our private ponds or in the bordering South River.
After a breathtaking sunset, the firefly displays on summer evenings will almost outshine the spectacular starry sky. The evening ends with a symphony of sounds courtesy of the resident frogs and crickets. In fall, cuddle up with a book and glass of wine by the fire.

PLEASE NOTE that in addition to the Carriage House studio please consider our three bedroom High Fields Farm (property # 37211) and our two bedroom Carrie's Cottage (property # 37726).

I loved my stay in the Carriage House at Fairhill Farm. The process of renting, checking in/out was easy and Alton was extremely prompt in responding. Everything was very clean, the grounds were well cared for and the site was beautiful. Every detail, down to flashlights in the nightstand and maps of the grounds, were well thought out and made the stay even more enjoyable. From the friendly felines to the sweet Corgi, the goose on the pond and the beautiful miniature horses frolicking in the fields, the animals all added to the fun. The purpose of my visit was a personal retreat and this place was perfect - relaxing, quiet, nice trails (even with my bum knee), and I enjoyed sitting and watching fish jump in the pond, and sitting up the "hill" some to see some great views. I would highly recommend it.

Exquisite, Liberating Getaway
Exquisite, Liberating Getaway
It was admittedly a last-minute getaway or "DC Escape" for me and my boyfriend. The owner was promptly responsive with his reply and easy-going in a rural European way from the moment I made contact with him. The views online were exceptional and one is used to getting something slightly less than what is exhibited online. Much to our delight, the views of the farm and surrounding area were equally as stunning as what we saw online. We arrived only to be greeted by three gorgeous dogs jumping up and down with excitement and the attentive, warm owner who was tending to his grounds. I love B&Bs, but am also independent when it comes to my comings and goings. We loved that the Fairhill Farms property was not like a typical B&B. We had our own little place off to the side of the farmhouse and could enjoy the beautiful farmland without and rules or rigidity. Alton was gracious and helpful with our questions regarding restaurants and bike paths. I woke up the next morning looking at a piece of heaven around me and was able to walk outside and pet some miniature ponies and soak up the glorious view that was my 360 degrees. Fantastic place....feel like I was meant to stumble upon this plot of happiness. It was very convenient to Old Rag, App Trail and Charlottesville, and Barboursville. We will definitely be making a return visit!! Eileen

Owner response: Thanks, Eileen, for your kind review of the Carriage House Studio at Fairhill Farm Country Vacation Rentals. We do take great pride in our vacation rentals. It is our passion for conserving rural land that led us to creating elegant but comfortable self-catering vacation rentals to share the serenity of rural landscapes with stunning mountain views. Our studio, two bedroom and three bedroom vacation rentals are all "pet free' for those guests who have allergies but we do offer the opportunity to "visit" with our corgis and King Charles Cavalier within their invisible fence for those guests who so choose. Our two farms comprise almost 300 acres with ponds and streams to explore and miniature horses to enjoy. There are over five miles of private trails. We are less than a 15 minute drive from the Swift Run Gap entrance to the Shenandoah Nation Park, Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian Trail. We are convenient to historic sites such as Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn and University of Virginia. There are a number of excellent wineries nearby. Please do visit our website for more information and to view the "What our guests say" page. Host Amb. Alton Keel
My husband and I stayed at the Fairhill Farms Cottage Studio. We found it very warm and cozy. It overlooked the most beautiful mountain scenery. It was so peacful and quiet, the perfect getaway and also the perfect spot to wake up in the morning for a quiet walk or just sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee. The entire property was amazing! It was the perfect locaton to the many plans we made: horseback riding, fly fishing, golfing, Ski Line Drive and the Hot Air Balloon Festival. The Hot Air Balloon Festival is near Front Royal about a 2 hour trip, but the scenerie was worth the trip! We plan to go back next year with family.

In addition to our three bedroom High Fields Farm vacation home with a private pool on its own 130 acre farm, we also have our two bedroom Carrie's Cottage and the carriage House Studio located on our adjacent 140 acre Fairhill Farm, that have exclusive rights to the manor house pool. Our farms comprise almost 300 acres with ponds and streams to explore and miniature horses to enjoy. We are near a number of excellent wineries nearby.
