Thank you for your inquiry about our beach house on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The house is located about 200 feet from the beach in the peaceful village of Anahola. The crescent shaped beach is wide and full of deep white fine sand. There are areas for surfing and body boarding, as well as a large reef protected area for snorkeling, fishing, or just floating! A winding river also meets the sea at Anahola Bay, creating a perfect retreat to relax.
Anahola is approximately 13 miles north of the airport at Lihue and a short five minute drive into Kapaa where there is plenty of shopping.
Our beach house is located on a tropically landscaped 1/3 acre lot, including many coconut trees, plumerias, and a large royal Poinciana. In the yard there’s a BBQ as well as lawn furniture for your relaxation.
The house is completely self-contained and fully furnished. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, and the other two bedrooms have queen-size beds. All bedrooms have closets and all linens are supplied. There is a full bathroom and the kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher. The comfortable living room has a stereo, cable TV, and a DVD.
A full laundry area (with washer and dryer) is available at no extra cost As are surfboards, body boards, and coolers in the breezeway.
A breezeway and laundry facility separates the house from the 4th bedroom. With full views of the garden, it has a full bathroom, queen-size bed, living area with sofa bed & TV.

Practical, great beach access

This down to earth home accommodated our group of 8 comfortably. We all loved being so close to the beach just one property away. A beach access road frequented by the locals does pass in front of the house. We enjoyed feeling like we were staying in more of "the real Kauai" as opposed to a phony resort. Anahola is also fairly centrally located for exploration of the whole island. As with most places on Kauai, there are lots of roosters crowing early, and you will likely have your windows open as there is not AC, so you might consider somewhere else if that would be a problem for you. There is a lovely huge tree in the yard, providing a relaxing retreat during the heat of the day. We very much enjoyed our stay, and would consider staying here again if our group doesn't get too much bigger.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Great location but big roach problem

Seven family members stayed here in August 2011. The location is wonderful, but the house leaves a lot to be desired. There is no AC and it gets very hot, particularly in the separate apartment. We had to abandon that area and have the caretaker bomb for roaches -- giant ones that dive bomb your head! The pesticide smell was so bad we had to double up in the main part of the house for the rest of our vacation. The owners were unwilling to give any discount for the inconvenience.
Owner response:Hawaii being in the tropics has many insects, inside & out, high-rise or home. This summer was much wetter than usual which increased the bug population. We have the house sprayed several times a year, inside & out, to control insects, none of which are harmful. People need to remember when renting a house, you are traveling as a temporary local and may encounter situations different from home.
