En La Marre is an early 19thC farmhouse on the estate of Baron de Charette's Chateau de Dracy in a peaceful rural location surrounded by forests and meadows. The property has been converted into six beautiful apartments for couples of all interests and lifestyles. Two of the apartments are in the original farmhouse, one is an independent converted stable/pigeonnier and three are on the first floor of the former barn. All the apartments are spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, each with private patio with garden furniture and gas BBQ's. There are guests' laundry facilities and ample car parking on site, plenty of sunloungers around the pool, and a lovely herb garden in the flower-bedecked courtyard which guests are encouraged to make use of for their culinary creations. A private tennis court is available nearby free of charge . The resident owners, CHRIS and JUDITH MOSEDALE, are on hand to ensure their guests enjoy a relaxed, peaceful stay away from the pressures of everyday life

SPORTING ACTIVITIES : TENNIS - private tennis court nearby free of charge for guests to use. Balls are at En La Marre but please bring suitable clothing. GOLF - three excellent golf courses nearby - MONTCHANIN/LE CREUSOT, 18 hole championship standard - CHALON 18 hole, AUTUN, 9 hole. Lots of paths have been created along the canal and former railway lines for keen CYCLISTS, ROLLER BLADERS and WALKERS - 'La Voie Verte'. Bicycles are available to rent at En La Marre at a modest price.There are details available in our apartments of other cycling and walking routes among the vineyards and hills. WATERSPORTS (sailing school , pedalo, boat, windsurf boards) are available on the lake at AUTUN by the golf range; TORCY (Le Creusot) has windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and rowing, and the LAC DES SETTONS (Morvan Nat. Park) has all watersports, also swimming with beach facilities. FISHING is very popular and available in the many lakes, rivers and canals. Permits are required and weekly/daily ones can be bought in the 'tabacs'. There are several equestrian centres nearby for HORSERIDERS: e.g. Ecuries les Bruyeres, St. Pierre de Varennes (6kms) : info@poneys-des-bruyeres.fr; Centre Equestre et Poney Club de Montalvin, Le Breuil (Le Creusot) (6kms); ROCKCLIMBING is also available 6kms away at 'Le Bout de Monde', NOLAY. There are numerous art and sculpture exhibitions throughout the region, especially in TOURNUS, CLUNY, BEAUNE and DIJON.

For MUSIC lovers there is a wide range of events taking place to suit all tastes, from jazz and blues to folk and classical and the summer months are busy with musical concerts in the surrounding towns and villages.

WINE AND FOOD: Vineyard visits can be arranged or join the residential owners Chris & Judith on a visit to their vigneron friends.

Burgundy is the gastronomic centre of France and many wine and food-related events take place throughout the region all year. An example of main events:-

May: 1st weekend - SAULIEU: 'Journees Gourmandes' - tasting of local produce and wine. Many wine events in other villages throughout the month

August: 1st weekend - 'LA RONDE COUCHOISE' : weekend of open door at cellars in the Couchois, tasting local wines and produce; also in NOLAY 'Du Cep en Verre', festival of wine and folk music

August - SAULIEU: Charolais Festival - lots of charolais meat and other local produce to sample

This single floor apartment is located in the former granary of the main house with a secluded spacious terrace overlooking the gardens, swimming pool and open countryside. The large open-plan kitchen/dining area is beautifully furnished and connects to the terrace. There is a wood/coal-burning stove in the cosy and comfortable living room. In addition to the music system there are lots of books, magazines and tourist information. The bathroom had an antique-tiled floor with a bath, separate shower, washbasin and w.c. The lovely large bedroom, with its exposed roof beams has views over the flower decked courtyard. A king size double bed, ample clothes hanging space and full-length mirror will ensure a relaxing stay. There is a short flight of stairs up to the apartment but once inside it is all on one level so suitable for reasonably fit elderly people.

On arrival at En La Marre all guests are invited to a welcome drink or two at 6pm to meet the other guests and to be updated on local events, markets, general information etc. We hold a communal BBQ on Thursday evenings for those interested and weather permitting -- each couple contributes a food dish and some wine, including your dear hosts -- anyone with a talent such as singing, playing an instrument, story or poetry telling etc is given an ideal opportunity on this occasion to entertain us all. 'We have had the most wonderful week - weather too, in this lovely tranquil setting. Our hosts Judith and Chris made us feel so welcome. We have enjoyed exploring all the areas around, sampling the restaurants and of course the wine. We are coming back next year for another helping of the good life' - Sarah and Ivan Cox, Northamptonshire 'What a wonderful introduction to our first visit to Burgundy. After a long journey from Ottawa, we were warmly received by Chris and Judith with a glass of red wine. Like others before us we have found En La Marre to be an ideal location to discover and explore the wine villages of the region. Ein sehr schöner Urlaub in einer wunderbaren Gegend, die uns mit ihren kulinarischen Leckereien verwöhnt hat. Mit Judith und Chris haben wir tolle Gastgeber erlebt, die uns über etliche Widrigkeiten bei der Organisation unserer Reise hinweg geholfen haben. Die Anlage ist sehr schön gelegen. Wir hatten das Appartment "Pinot Noir" bewohnt, das stilecht und rundum gut ausgestattet ist - wir haben uns richtig wohl und heimisch gefühlt. Vielen Dank an unsere Gastgeber. Es wird bestimmt nicht das letzte Mal gewesen sein.

This was our 5th visit to En La Marre and as always we had a great welcome from Chris & Judith. This is such a lovely place and we particularly love Pinot Noir with the great view from the terrace. The Black Redstarts were in abundance and the Nuthatch went hammer and tongs on the fence posts. John saw a Hoopoe on the first day but no more since then. We have seen lots of Goldfinches and Greenfinches and had a Hawfinch in the field and a few Red-backed Shrikes. We have met some lovely people this year. I enjoyed singing with Lynne and trying to speak Italian, German and French with the non-English-speaking guests.

Our first visit to this part of France. We could'nt have found a better spot. The country side is beautiful and our surroundings so tranquil. We would have liked to have longer to explore it further.Chris and JUdith have been very hospitable and helpfuland we hope that we will be back again sometime in the not too distant future.
