Breathtaking sunsets and great swimming!

We had gorgeous September weather and we're able to take full advantage of the pier. The swimming is truly top notch- no weeds and a sandy bottom. The grandkids loved jumping off the pier and even caught a few nice pan fish. Evenings were great in the screened gazebo that had room for everyone. We ate every dinner out there, as the sun set, except when we went out for fish fry at the Sports Page, which was fun. The small town was nice - just right. The house was modern, clean and comfortable. We'd say not the biggest, but just the best. Its right on the water and the views are amazing. We enjoyed having wi-fi internet, and I was able to work outside in the screen house, while gazing at the lake. If you've got to work on vacation, it's the way to go! We will be back!

Your home was a wonderful retreat from the daily grind! We celebrated my 50th Birthday and found it to be the perfect setting for the celebration. House was well stocked with spices, dishes, towels, EVERYTHING! Really enjoyed the view from living room and back yard! Even our lil yorkie Rex mastered the dock (after many attempts and running scared back towards the house) ha. Us girls shopped the downtown area and enjoyed lunch at one of the corner diners. While the guys stayed home and relaxed with "drinks", sports, and card playing. The outside screened area was a great place for just hanging out and catching up. We will have to make a return visit and bring along our fishing poles to try our luck on the lake. Thank you again for opening your home to us. Eric, Carol, Jason, Abby, Nicole, Joe and Rex.

A Perfect Vacation at The Island

My husband, 6 year old son and I spent a wonderful week in July 2011 at The Island in Lake Ripley. Our son decided he would like to move from Colorado to Wisconsin because that is where all the fun is! We had so much fun swimming, boating and fishing in Lake Ripley. The view and sunsets from this beautiful home were amazing. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay for our lake vacation. The house is so clean, so well decorated and so comfortable! The owners are very kind and the communication great! The town of Cambridge is very close for dining out and shopping. We also loved the proximity to Madison. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants to have an outstanding vacation experience! We definitely hope to return!

A very small town rental

We enjoyed our time at the house. However there are not boat rentals avaiable if you do not have a boat you are limted to what you can do. Fishing is good form the pier ealry and late. The lake is has a lot of seaweed and a sandy gravel bottom. The town of Cambridge is very small and could not find any good food or service in the town. The house although it is updated is still 80 yrears old and the AC on the upper level does not work well. The house is small we only had 4 people in the house and it felt small. There are no doors on the third loft bedroom it a bit strange. Well water has an odor to it also. I really did not think the house was worth the monry spent , Could of stayed at a really nice resort for the money spent here, We were able to bring our dog and he enjoyed the lake. Owner is very easy to work with and is very helpful.
Owner response:I am glad that you enjoyed your time at the house. I am also glad that you found the fishing to be good. There are boat rentals available on the lake through the Bait Shop. While all lakes have some seaweed, Lake Ripley is 40 feet deep at its deepest point and is clear and mostly weed free, compared to other lakes. The swimming area at our property has some of the best swimming frontage in Southern Wisconsin, with hard bottom sand and no weeds. If you expect a lake to be like a swimming pool, you're going to be disappointed, no matter how great it is. The town is charming and there are very good restaurants and GREAT service. Again, if you are expecting Downtown Chicago food, service, and prices, you are going to be disappointed. With food service, often times you get back what you give in attitude. There are no chain restaurants in Cambridge. Certain parts of the house are as old as 80 years old, but the home was completely gutted in 2006. It has completely modern amenities including stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, wifi and flat screen HDTVs. The central a/c works fine throughout the house. I suspect operator error. We have a culligan system for water conditioning, and if one doesn't like the particular taste of it, we suggest buying drinking water at the store. Lastly, we say exactly how large the house is- its 3 bedrooms and one of the bedrooms is a loft. Again, if you are expecting a 5,000 square foot McMansion with 5 bedrooms, you are going to be disappointed. 99% of guests find this house to be roomy, modern and comfortable.

Thanks for the great accomodations! We enjoyed the house and the lake very much. It was great to dock our boat just a few feet from the house for some fun in the sun! the beach was great, the fish were biting, and the beds super comfortable. Thanks also for recommending the Dairy Farm Tour- we took our 9 month old and he liked getting up close to the animals. Thanks again. -Chicago, IL

My husband and I, son and daughter-in-law, and 9 month old twin grandsons spent Thanksgiving week in this property. The description was very accurate, and the host very easy to work with. The property is well maintained. Because our intent was just to spend time together, we didn't go out a lot. We made a quick trip to Cambridge - what a lovely little town. This house was very nice and would be really awesome in warmer weather.
