Welcome to the heart of San Miguel, the jewel in the colonial crown. Casa Laguna is a lovely retreat from the attraction and activity of El Centro, and yet, only eight short blocks to the vibrant heart, El Jardin. Located on the rise of the hill overlooking town, Casa Laguna is an easy walk down and a vigorous walk (or taxi) back. There is no need for a car, yet you have that quiet distance from the traffic and firecrackers in town.
Casa Laguna is a magnificent property, shared with two other homes in a green, wooded setting. A safe location within a stone-walled compound, it includes a naturalized, lagoon-shaped pool and a 17th Century chapel.
There are three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a large living room, gourmet kitchen/dining, and plentiful outdoor relaxation areas. You may enjoy your morning cuppa on the front porch, an afternoon nap in a hammock by the tranquil pool, and your sunset margarita on the Master bedroom terrace or rooftop relaxation area.
The interiors are Hacienda style, with soaring ceilings and antique wood beams. The large cantera fireplace in the sala takes the chill off winter mornings, and the bedroom fireplace also provides romantic comfort. The home is a haven of luxurious appointments and quiet corners, all with direct views to La Parroquia as well as the surrounding hillsides.
The first floor includes a grand entry and large sala, with all furnishings hand-crafted in Mexico.There is a television (local only) and DVD player within a cabinet in the living area. We have many DVD movies available, and high-speed internet access if you bring your laptop. There is also a powder room on this floor.
Step up to the kitchen and dining area and enjoy every gourmet accoutrement so that you may practice your cooking skills from the excellent courses offered in town! And feel free to drink from the tap as there is a state-of-the-art whole house water purification system.
On the second floor are the three bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms are provided with down comforters, fine linens, and lots of pillows. The master bedroom has a Moorish style fireplace, King-sized bed, outdoor terrace and a modern bath en suite. It has a DVD player in the armoir. There is one Twin bedroom (two individual beds) and one Queen size bedroom, these two sharing a Jack-and-Jill style full bath.
There is also a rooftop patio with ample seating for friends, or for stretching out for a siesta. Here you will enjoy the most magnificent views in all this historic city.
To care for your visit you may expect Alicia to come three times a week. She will attend to the laundry, dishwashing, and house maintenance so that you can relax and live like a local. Upon request she can prepare delicious Mexican meals.

We were going to write a long, multi-paragraph review extolling the virtues of Maggi's place, as we have come to call it. But we won't. Not that anything would be misleading or exaggerated -- it wouldn't --but because this magnificent, three-bedroom house with three verandas and a pool on a hill overlooking San Miguel de Allende -- a short walk down hill to the town's main plaza -- is simply that: magnificent. The sunsets from the roof terrace: priceless.The photos of the house on this site, while good, do no justice to the house and grounds. Just let us say, Maggi's house and staff made for a perfect two-week getaway. We want to return. And that's all there is to say.
