Historic Cedar Key is a nature lover's and artist's dream. Cedar Key is one of the few remaining fishing villages (mullet, redfish, grouper) left in Florida and oysters, crabs, and farm-raised clams still being harvested the old-fashioned way. Nearby are outer islands with historic ruins to explore, as well as Manatee Springs, Homasassa Springs, and the Lower Suwanee Wildlife Refuge. We have numerous wonderful restaurants, fun shops, and art galleries.
We have three festivals a year: in April (the Arts Festival), over the Fourth of July (Clamerica - the Clam Festival), and the Seafood Festival in October. In January we host the week-long Star Gazing Party and in the fall is the Nature Coast Birding and Wildlife Experience. You can also rent kayaks, bikes, boats, fishing guides, or golf carts to get around but do not forget to bring a camera, that book you have been meaning to read, and your fishing pole. You are in for a wonderful and relaxing time. |
