We stayed in this house for the month of February. By reading the previous reviews, we knew that nothing was wrong with the house before arriving: seriously, whoever complains about a neighbouring cow, or having to buy your own toilet paper is really looking for something negative. The comment about the broken toilet seat made me laugh, because having a large house, I think we never manage to have all the radiators and all the toilet working without one of them showing a problem! When we arrived, we knew we picked the right place: we woke up by the sound of the ocean, with that view that blows your mind. The house was large, and all of our five kids found the perfect spot to stay. I appreciated that there was not to many knick-knacks, as some of my kids are really small. The furniture is of good quality. The kitchen is widely equipped, and it was a must for us to have a laundry. Some of the most beautiful beaches of the island are less than 10 min. by car, and the pool is prefect for all ages. The neighbours are friendly and welcoming. Yes, they do have a karaoke every other Saturday, but don't hesitate to stop by, it is a friendly time. The rest of the time, you can ear the ocean and sometimes a goat. There is a supermarket less than 15min. from the house, and a few minimarkets close by. We appreciated the contact with Kevin, who was friendly and full of good tips, and Brett, his home manager checked on us every day, and helped us find the supermarket, managed for the house to be cleaned once a week, and was taking care of any concern we could have during our stay. We very much enjoyed the location: lots of spaces compared to the West Coast, easy to go anywhere, and thanks to the constant breeze of the ocean, we were never too hot, neither did we have the visit of the mosquitoes. My husband suggested we left a bad review so that we had more options if we wanted to come back, but the truth is, I loved staying in that house, my kids didn't complain (even the teens), and we had a lovely time.Owner response: Thanks so much Celine. The locals are going to miss you guys after having you around for the month. Its a large place and we try hard to stay on top of the maintenance. We hope to see you back next winter. I know that it's really far for you but hopefully worth it:)

We rented the villa over xmas with 4 adults and 6 children (another friend of ours joined with her son for a few days as well). The property was perfect for our needs including the pool and grounds that are meticulously maintained. The rooms are extremely spacious and each of the 5 bedrooms has their own full bathroom. The villa has wifi and a large library of dvd's which kept the children entertained while we zipped wine on the terrace overlooking the Atlantic ocean. There is a wonderful local contact with the name of Bert. He picked us up from the airport and showed us round the property and was available 24/7 to answer our questions. We were a little concerned after reading the older reviews, but I am happy to say that we had no issues at all, the villa is in perfect condition! The neighbors are extremely friendly and the neighbors across the street have even opened up a little restaurant where you can order whatever you would like as long as you tell them in the morning what you would like to eat in the evening. We spend most days in Bottom Bay and the Crane resort. Both places have amazing beaches, and are extremely kid friendly. I wholeheartedly recommend this villa for your next vacation!Owner response: Thanks for the review Juliette Bert and I are very happy that you and your family really enjoyed your stay. We are constantly working on and trying to improve the villa and we hope you are able to come to the island and stay with us again in the future. Kevin

Incredible villa and location. We recently visited for a week and had a fantastic stay. First and foremost the view is among the best on the island. Bert the groundskeeper greeted us at the airport and guided us to the villa which was good considering that even though it is close to the airport it may be a little difficult to find at night for the first time. Bert was very helpful and showed us around the large villa. There is a two level pool that overlooks the ocean as well as a large patio area. Each of the three bedrooms in the back has walk out balconies that overlook the ocean. There are a total of five bedrooms and each has a full bathroom. We were slightly concerned after reading some of the older reviews but I’m happy to say that we had no issues at all. The villa has WIFI and full satellite TV. There is both a phone for local calls and another phone in the office room to make free calls to North America which we found quite handy. We had no issues at all with mosquitoes but we did bring some repellant just in case. There seems to be a constant breeze so we kept the windows opens most of the time as well as the balcony doors which made sleeping comfortable. The kitchen seemed to have everything we needed to prepare our own meals. The villa is located in a quiet residential area away from the tourist area. Jackie and her family operate a small bar across the street which was nice if we wanted to walk over for a drink. She also prepares very nice meals if you don’t feel like cooking. We read previous reviews containing complaints about the karaoke across the street and just could not see what the big deal was. They had it for a few hours on a weekend night and it was lots of fun. People who complain about this should never consider the tourist side of the island then. The villa is located about 25 minutes from the main tourist area and about 10 minutes from The Crane resort which is a great place for a nice dinner. There is a small beach at the bottom of the hill which is about a 10 minute walk down a path. We found many amazing beaches just a short drive away. Some of these beaches had stairs leading down to them so they might be tough for those with trouble walking. It appears that Bert and the new owners are doing a lot of work to the villa and we were very satisfied to say the least. I would recommend it to anybody that may be sick of the traditional buffet/tourist type resorts. This to me is the next level of vacationing.Did you find this review helpful? Love the peaceful country location. Convenient to have the bus stop one street over. Took the bus to Bridgetown for the day and enjoyed the scenery and local town views. Another day ventured out with a car rental to some local sites. Drove to the lovely Crane Beach. (about a 15 minute ride). With a local map we found our way to North Point, Cherry Tree Hill, Bathsheba and other tourist stops. Another afternoon we called a preferred Taxi for hire and spent our evening dining and partying down at Oistins and the Gap. What more could you ask for...(another week or two if you ask us.) The villa was clean and tidy. Plenty of toilet paper and bath towels. We love to open the bedroom vernanda doors and sleep with the sound of the sea. We brought some organic nontoxic mist repellent which was perfect for sleeping in the open air. On our way to the villa from the airport, we stopped at the local Emerald store and purchased groceries and snacks to enhance our stay. Nothing like sitting at the table, on the veranda eating breakfast, lunch or even dinner with the most fantastic view of the sea. No lines, no waiting, no screaming kids...just peace & the quite roar of the sea. The maid called midweek inquiring if we needed any services and our requests were met within our requested hours. Most of our days were spent sight seeing, or just taking a neighborhood walk. If not out and about our time was in the pool which was crystal clear and clean. We did meet the pool man early one morning and another day bumped into him in the afternoon. He was very polite and respected our privacy. We prefer the quite atmosphere and calmness without the secluded feeling. The nighttime sky is perfect for star gazing and viewing shooting stars. I'll sum it up by saying..Heaven is a little closer in a house by the sea.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

I will begin with saying the view was fantastic and there was plenty of space (7 adults, 1 child). But, Iike the family from Colorado, I must say that upkeep is needed. The toilet seat was still broken, the shower head in one of the upstairs bathroom was firmly stuck to the right, so you had to rest your body against the wall in order to take your shower, when you opened the dishwasher, it tumbled out because it was not secured in the frame. In addition, no one came to clean the pool (we were there from the 30th of June until July 9 th 2010. It was not mentioned that after the second roll of toilet paper was used, it was your responsiblity to purchase additional rolls. The cleaning lady ws lovely, but she did not come to clean until 3:30 pm and was there for at least 3 to 4 hours, whcih meant you could not go to your room to relax because the sheets had been removed. The family across the street were great and we enjoyed our visit with them. But, as I told my sister who booked this home, it is too far away from the activities (you must drive at least 45 minutes to 1 hour). We will return to Barbados, it is the second time for myself and spouse, the first for my sister and family, but, would not stay in far out St. Phillip. A bit of advice, take mosquito repellant, they are vicious.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.

There is both good and bad things that our family had to say about the villa. First the villa is very lovely and spacious and the location overlooking the ocean cannot be beat. I spent many wonderful early mornings looking out at the view from the back deck and even spotted a few monkeys. The bad, the upkeep of the villa needs to be stepped up several notches. one of the toilets had a broken seat, no handle on the shower in the master bath, the ceiling fans do not move very much air even on high,, the ice maker did not work at all and we had to purchase ice, several of the movable fans did not work, the cable was out the entire time( I think this is a frequent problem as I noticed another review that commented on this), we could not get the Wi Fi to work, we never saw anyone come to clean the pool, the housekeeper although great came at 30O pm and stayed until 7 or 8 which was inconvenient for us. Another thing which could be a big problem for some is the villa is directly across the street from a rum shop. the noise in the evening can be extremely loud especially on Karaokee Saturdays where the very loud singing went on until about 100am. I think the two front bedrooms are totally unusable ans they get no breeze what so ever and they have the noise from next store. We loved Jackie the owner as she was very friendly and helpful, and our two kids made friends with her two kids, they played games togethor several nights which helped distract from no TV. I probably would not go back to the villa based on all of these factors and not having airconditioning was a very big negative, despite the location there were several nights where there was no breeze at all and only one of the five bedrooms was tolerable even with all of the windows open and the fans going. The cow in the field next to the villa could also be a bit noisy at about 6 am. Hope this helps.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are very upset to hear we have had a review of 2 stars considering we always go out of our way to assist are guests, including giving away free extra nights to accommodate flight changes. There is 7 toilets in the main house and if mentioned that one of the seats is broken and causing an inconvenience we will rectify or repair that or any problem immediately. The freezer works perfectly fine and the ice trays tend to work well for ice cubes, the ice maker was an added extra that we never mention and due to the constant misuse we are thinking of removing. We have never had any complaints about the ceiling fans which work well and we have also rectified the floor fan situation. We agree about the cable being a problem not just with us, on the Island as a whole and have since changed providers. We always explain how to reset the Wi-Fi and pass on the number of an IT specialist who is ready to visit to resolve any problem you may have, just please make the call. The pool is cleaned by Wayne every other day when we have guests and he usually arrives very early in the morning to add the chemicals, clean etc, some guests never get to meet him if they are either sleeping or out and about when he visits. Please understand that the Villa is very large in size and that the cleaning is going to take a little longer than a smaller sized property, we pride ourselves in cleanliness. Air-conditioning is something we have never promised, we are clear on this matter and if you are an A/C lover this Villa is not for you. Myself, my family and our guests for over 2 years have slept in each and every room, have never had a problem and are always on the end of the phone or email if you have any queries. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and if you plan to return we will be more than happy to arrange a complimentary period. Kindest regards, Eamonn

We thoroughly enjoyed Maddens View. The villa was as advertised and the view is stunning! My only gripe was that the cable was out our entire 2 week stay so bring DVD's if you are bringing kids or love to watch TV. The property owner was very helpful with making our stay comfortable and the cleaning staff were thorough. I would stay here again and again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We couldn't be more satisfied. The villa is exactly as shown on this site. It's beautiful, peaceful, and made for a wonderful vacation! Some Info -Located on the far Southeast corner of the island about 10 minutes North of The Crane. It takes roughly 40 minutes to reach St. Lawrence Gap and 45 or so to reach Holetown. -The house is in a quiet residential area with beautiful views and a wonderful cool breeze especially in the evening. -Fully stocked kitchen and the pool is excellent for an oceanfront dip. -The caretaker on the island is extremely helpful and the maid service is courteous and thorough.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We recently returned from our trip to Barbados and unfortunately, we had to leave early due to one of our kids being sick. The villa was great! Spectacular ocean views from all rooms on the water side and wonderful breezes. The pool was perfect for our 3 year old with the option for her to use the big part of the pool or the smaller jacuzzi area. It was great to have a small yard too, where she enjoyed picking flowers. The property was very clean and staff arrived on various days to clean the pool and the rooms. The master bedroom was enormous and had tons of closet space. There were bathrooms in every corner of the villa. We especially enjoyed our time sitting out on the first floor patio. The last night we were there it was so much fun watching the kids fly kites and listening to the ocean waves. I would definitely recommend this property to people looking for a quiet get-away!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The house itself was very nice, But very far away from the tourist area. A rental vehicle is a must, and you will have to do alot of driving. The beach near the house is not suitable for swimming as ocean is extremely ruff with large waves and rocks.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 9/9

The house is huge, it could have used some furniture on the second floor common area though. The pool was perfect, 6ft in the middle and well maintained. The kitchen had everything you could want. Bedrooms had lots of room with large bathrooms. The views were priceless from both floors. If we didn't love the island so much we never would have left the house. Three weeks was not enough, can't wait to come here again. Staff was excellent. I would recommend this property to anyone.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

There were 9 ladies (10 for a few days) and 1 baby on this trip and we all had the greatest time. The villa is so big that you barely notice there are so many of you. When a friend popped over from the US for a few days, she was quite happy to sleep outside on the balcony upstairs on one of the huge chaise longues (with mosquito repellant of course) at night and we think she got the best deal in the end with the gorgeous breeze and ocean sounds!! The oceanfront view is unbelievable. The pool area outside is gorgeous and our toddler loved the baby pool and walking about in the garden area. The locals around the house are extremely friendly, security is great (alarm and huge gates and locks). Definitely need a car to travel to and from town. On nights where you don't want to drive, you can ring the local Crane Hotel (from house phone) and order taxi - We ended up doing this once and having our own personal taxi driver with an 8 seater at our own disposal for rest of hols, which was great! Paradise holiday and can't wait to get back there!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were 9 adults and 4 small children (aged 3 months to 5 years). It was perfect for us because of the excellent facilities and roominess. The children enjoyed the pool but they required a life vest due to the depth (we had vests with us). Property was as advertised, well maintained and clean (although the stove gas was empty when we arrived). Instructions for the water heaters would have been helpful (also instructions for the jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom bath). The regular caretaker was out of the country when we arrived and I suspect these oversights would not have occurred had she been available. A rental van was a must for us because we like to explore and the villa is well situated as a starting point for exploring Barbados. The recommended car rental agency was excellent. It was a wonderful week and we would definitely recommend this property to a friend.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
