Casa Portagioia is an elegant yet relaxed country retreat in Tuscany – somewhere between a country hotel and your best friend’s home. It is a place where you can relax, take time to reflect on your travels and to be energized and enthused in to seeing more of the wonderful places Tuscany (and Umbria) have to offer.

Whether you plan to try some Pecorino from Pienza or some of Tuscany’s famous wines or discover the antiquities of Arezzo, the treasures of Cortona, Montepulciano and Siena or the tranquillity that is Assisi – or a day trip to Florence - (an hour by train) - these are just a few ideas to contemplate whilst you sit back and relax by our heated swimming pool enjoying the ever changing Tuscan vista that surround Casa Portagioia.

Casa Portagioia offers 5 independent guest bedrooms and 2 suite apartments, all with luxury bathrooms. Four of the bedrooms and both apartments benefit from air-conditioning. Our accommodations are fresh and inviting. For a Tuscan country bed & breakfast you’ll find everything ‘just so’ from our comfortable orthopaedic beds to the modern bright bathrooms to the lovely views of our gardens and the surrounding Tuscan countryside.

Breakfast at Casa Portagioia can be quite a perilous activity! You might find yourself sitting on our terraces for hours on end – taking in the views, sipping a fresh cappuccino when you had planned to be on the road discovering more than just our beautiful valley – such is the relaxed style at Casa Portagioia.

You might also be at Casa Portagioia for one of our dinner parties. During the summer these take place on one of our terraces overlooking the bucolic splendour of the valley. A five-course dinner is served – and you might like to try some of Tuscany’s finest and award winning wines from our cellar.

The focal points of Casa Portagioia are the spectacular pool with its panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside and Casa Portagioia’s gardens. The Cypress lined drive, the lavender, roses, rosemary and ginistra mingle with terracotta pots bursting with summer colours and fragrances. This can be your 'Home in Tuscany' whenever you choose.

During August, Cortona hosts the famous Tuscan Sun Festival. This beautiful Tuscan hill town is usually a quiet place, but during the first weeks of August Cortona is transformed into an international venue for music, wine tasting, cooking and more. 2009's special guest was Anthony Hopkins, whose exhibition of paintings and musical compositions were featured. Artists including Joshua Bell, Stéphane Denève, Nina Kotova were also featured in 2009's Tuscan Sun Festival.

  • When being harshly mocked for spending hours scouring the web for a 'perfect' place to say, we can only retort with the last laugh. All that time hunting was so worth it to find this slice of heaven. Let's start with the hosts - Terry and Marcello could not be more friendly and helpful, or more hilarious (gullible be warned!). They really made us feel welcome and made our stay even more special than we could have dreamed it to be. Due to the popularity of Casa Portagioia. we booked the only room available -Appartamento di Funghini - a tad excessive for our needs really, but oh what a sight to behold! Such tasteful decor, so immaculate and spotless, our own kitchen and our own private terrace! (Although I must say, hanging out with the other fun guests was quite a lure away from our little private haven.) The cluster of buildings and grounds is picture perfect, and the surrounding countryside just gorgeous. At the end of a busy trip we were thrilled to unwind in such a perfect setting. Terry and Marcello seemed to understand our need to just hang around in sunny little nooks and relax, although we did take Terry's trip advice and thoroughly enjoyed the recommended jaunts out from Casa P. Our favorite expedition was taking the push bikes and pedaling around the countryside, being amazed at just how much we missed when tootling off in the car. We saw the Italy I dreamed of my whole life. We think back with longing to our beautiful holiday here. We could not recommend this gorgeous property or its fantastic hosts highly enough!

  • Suzie and I,married 36yrs finally vacationed in Italy. We took a month seeing the most beautiful parts of Italy and in the end we spent our last four days in Casa Portagioia in Tuscany. We had always planned on going to Tuscany and we were finally there. I'll have to say that because of Terry & Marchello this was the most comfortable and beautiful ending to our visit. They made us so welcome that they erased the small bumps in the road as we toured. They've given us a Tuscan and Italian memory that will last a lifetime. It was the big "TaDa!" at the end. This message was prompted by the fact that we just came back from a St. Louis Cardinals game with friends and we were encourging them to visit Casa Portagioia. Terry and Marcello, hope you still wear your Cardinals cap and shirt once in awhile so that your guests will know that there are folks in St. Louis that think your place is the greatest!

  • We stayed at Casa Portagioia for the whole two weeks of our holiday and what a great decision that turned out to be. As a base to all peace,tranquility and relaxation Casa could not be beaten. We were really comfortable in the excellent accomodation , loved the pool , relished the breakfasts and longed for fresh pasta and salad lunches (made with such care by Marcello). The scenery was fantastic and 2 weeks allowed us to explore all of the nearby towns Florence was superb, Pienza a delight & Anghiari charming but we also loved walking in the hills and valley near Casa Portagioia. Overall a superb place

  • Hello Terry and Marcello, We have safely returned to the United States and Carol and I wanted to thank you again for the wonderful stay we had at Casa Portagioia. Your accommodations made the stay extra special. All the little touches and finding our rooms sparkling and clean on our return each day surpassed the finest hotels we have stayed at here in the USA. But it was really the special attention you both pay to both of us and your other guests during breakfast, and the help you gave us with reservations, recommendations, and suggestions for navigating our way around the Tuscany area that really made our stay there so enjoyable. Both of you added so much to our experience in Italy and we both think of you more as new found friends than as our host or innkeepers. If there was anything we wish we had done differently it would be to have visited Rome first, and then spend the last part of our trip at Casa Portagioia. The hotel in Rome wasvery nice, but there was something of a let down staying there after you both had set the standard so high with your accommodations and service at Casa Portagioia. Thank you again for everything and we hope that sometime in the future we may have the opportunity to visit you again. I spend a great deal of time trying to come up with a brilliant business that would justify a quick return to Italy. PR is one ---I have promoted Casa Portagioia to everyone. . .not a difficult task.

  • The week we spent at Casa Portagioia was wonderful in every respect. We were taken care of beautifully - the countryside was enchanting, the people gracious and we hope to return someday. Must say that the breakfasts after we left were a disappointment after having wonderful fruit, coffee and eggs each day. We were spoiled (and we loved it!). This is a gem!
