One enters this extraordinary one-bedroom into an elegant entrance designed as a library, with many wonderful books of different subjects and in different languages lining the walls all around you. A small sofa bench adds warmth and provides a place to leaf through a work or two.
The bright living room beckons and draws you in. It is a magnificent room, with three floor to ceiling french windows (double-glazed), a beautifully restored herringbone parquet floor, classic mouldings, and a period fireplace. The large size of the room allows for a comfortable seating area with two large sofas, and a dining area for up to six people. The room is full of wonderful and surprising details, such as the antique cinema projector lamp, as well as several original art-pieces adorning the walls.
The kitchen, open onto the dining area is executed in a thoroughly modern way, contrasting energetically with the classic surroundings. The work surfaces are in hewn from beautifully finished and dyed concrete, while the units are in brushed stainless steel, with an air of professionalism. A beautifully designed corridor, with a strong visual character of its own, radiates out from the semi-open kitchen and entrance, leading to the courtyard-facing bedroom and bathroom.
The bathroom has a rich moody ambiance, treated in deep purple. Again, attention to detail evident in the fittings and finishes. The bathtub is a romantic curved design, with handsome taps and shower handle. The mat-finish chrome wash basin is just as elaborate, a round shape with rough ridges around the bottom, above which is mounted a large circular mirror.
The bedroom has a dressing area with a full-length mirror and lots of wardrobe space. The room - quite hard to photograph - is spacious. Facing the queen-size bed is a specially designed purple alcove with a beautifully painted desk. The peace and quiet of the room makes it ideal for those with some writing to do, as well as ensuring a good night’s sleep. |
