My husband and I and another couple recently stayed at this property for almost a week. I highly recommend the property, which contains four rentals, overall. However, for the Syrah rental I would suggest that you not be elderly or infirm as there is a winding staircase to the bedrooms (2 separate floors above, the main floor) that could be difficult. The area is beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. The four owners were very helpful and even called and picked up my camera when I left it at the nearby restaurant, La Loupiote (good food and HONEST). You must have a car to stay here as it's a bit remote; but a gorgeous and interesting area. Our ONLY "second thoughts" would be that our payment transfer costs were high ($40 on our end and 49 euros on the other end...approx. 10% of the rental fee). Hopefully, there is a way to avoid this, if you know about it in advance. A wonderfully atmospheric and beautiful property and we would stay here again.

    Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Thanks so much for this great review. Syrah is indeed not our best unit for the infirm. Our Olivier unit is specially suited for that and is wheelchair accessible, and we advise future guests to mention it in their request. We are sorry that we have no credit card facility, and that our non European guests have to bare bank transfer costs. These can vary quite a lot from bank to bank in the US, so please check these charges with your bank before making a reservation. Our bank is BNP Parisbas in France.

We had a delightful, week long, stay recently. The accommodations are exceptional, and the proximity to Provence's greatest treasures is an added bonus. I heartily recommend Domaine du Crestet to anyone traveling to Provence.

Domaine du Crestet is the kind of accommodation that one wishes for, but rarely realizes. The group of owners are most affable and gracious. Each of the houses is as charming and comfortable as another - and we have stayed in them all. The "greeting" wine evening, and the table d'hote are events that are not to be missed - great gatherings with superb repasts. The location of the Domaine is within easy drive to the Provencal countryside that includes superb wine country, outstanding fruits and vegetables and unequalled table fare, but is also quite accessible to Avignon for the "urban" experience. It's also only a short hop to Mt. Ventoux and the more mountainous areas of the Drome, with such other great destinations as Nyon and her great olives. This place is nothing short of paradise.

The rains were the worst, by many accounts, since the flooding of 1992. Visibility, on the winding road from Le Barroux, was minimal. We missed our turn, but found a public telephone in Vieux Crestet, and called for directions. The parking area was sticky with the Rhone valley clay that is good for growing grapevines, but little else. The air was pungent with the smoke of smouldering clippings from the vines. We were cold, wet and tired. Any sheltered spot would have looked welcoming. As Paul showed us our lodging, we came to understand that we had made a good choice. Over Paul’s shoulder, I saw my wife, Eleanor, smiling, silently clapping. This was our introduction to Domaine du Crestet. We were charmed. In years since, we have visited many times, and have come to consider DdC a second home. The conversation starts, again, as if there had been no pause. It seems that we’ve photographed every quaint farmstead, medieval alley, clothesline, windmill, and cluster of flowers within a day’s drive. We have memorized the market days for each village, and know when the bakeries open and close. We have learned the trail heads for the Grand Randonee, and practiced the subtle art of pétanque. At the end of the day, there’s quiet conversation, with wine, olives, and fellowship, in the courtyard. Our only regret is that our time there is limited. Our visits to DdC have been great adventure, and a most comfortable one. We cannot thank our hosts enough.

We stayed in the Grenache House in the fall of 2008 and absolutely everything was exceptional, from the hosts, to the accommodations and the setting etc... I am a travel agent and would not hesitate in the least to recommend Domaine du Crestet to anyone looking for self-catering accommodations in this area or France. I hope to visit again someday.

We spent a delightful month in the Murier house at Crestet in March 2008 to escape the Canadian winter. Paul and Erik were so helpful and knowledgeable and the house was exactly as depicted on the internet. The location provided a great balance of rural and urban, being so close to Vaison and yet with the stunning views of Crestet and Mont Ventoux. I think we explored just about every town in the vicinity, saw so many historical sites and sampled a great selection of food and wines. Happy to recommend it and will definitely be back. Domaine du Crestet is a wonderful place - we spent an entire January here and felt as if it were our home. The hosts are delightful, helpful and interesting! We enjoyed visiting locals sites and hiking in the Dentilles Upon our return each day we relaxed in our cozy home, the Syrah house, and snuggled up by the fireplace in our living room. All aspects of the house were topnotch - furniture, layout, kitchen, patio, bathrooms, cleanliness and charming decor. We are looking forward to our return visit later this month (Dec).

What a wonderful place, and what fabulous hosts! The facility, the views over the fields, the location in a wonderful area, and...best of all...don't miss the once-a week dinner at their big outdoor table - it's a real treat! The charming town of Vaison-la-Romaine is the center of attraction in the area, with a wonderful market. It's true France, at its best.

The perfect end to our European holiday, Domaine du Crestet was comfortable, well equipped, and luxurious, and we were made to feel part of the family. Our hosts were so welcoming and gave us plenty of advice about the local area and restaurants. As my husband is a wheelchair user we often find accommodation a bit difficult but the Olivier house was perfect for us, set up with all the equipment he needed, while still looking and feeling like a luxury guest house (not a hospital!). We loved our time in Provence - thanks to everyone at Domaine du Crestet for the fond memories.

Domaine du Crestet was the best place we have stayed in throughout Europe. This place was awesome, right in the middle of a vineyard with a view of the mountains and a perched village just a few minutes walk from our patio where we enjoyed our wine and cheese. Everything from the kitchen, washer & dryer, bathrooms, furniture and layout was perfect. Our hosts were so welcoming and informative, we hated to leave. Do not miss their weekly group dinner or the wine tasting evening! The location is excellent since we toured the Provence Region daily from here. From hikes in the Dentilles to scenic drives up Mount Ventoux or exploring the many towns and villages, every day was an adventure. Definitely this place was very reasonably priced and we would love to be able to go back here withing the next few years. Ursula & Larry Schleen, Ont. Canada

We spent three lovely weeks at the Domaine in September 2006. The house (Syrah) was just perfect for our family of three. Our daughter loved the pool and making friends with Mistral, the family retriever. Beautiful area, very convenient location, and warm hospitality. The wine tasting is not to be missed! Terrific walking in the hills roundabout, and superb markets nearby in Vaison and Malaucene. Hope to return someday.
