Over 500 years old, Casa Spello is a newly renovated medieval townhouse located in the historic center of Spello, a hillside village with rich history pre-dating Roman times. The property, nestled within the ancient city walls, boasts one of the most panoramic vistas in all of Spello; on a clear day, you can see the church towers of Assisi, the distant Perugia, Montefalco, Foligno and, of course, the rolling hills covered in olive groves and vineyards which surround Spello. Our large garden/orchard, surrounded by an 1800 year old Roman wall, is an ideal setting for al fresco dining or sipping coffee before the day's adventures.
The house itself is over 500 years old, restored with the help of a local architect to provide it with all the modern amenities while preserving its genuine medieval ambiance. It once was a home with two large cantinas (caves) where the family used to make wine and press their olive oil. The entire structure, caves included, has been converted into four beautiful units, all available for rent on a short-term or long-term basis.
Each of the units is elegantly furnished with antique-style and rustic furnishings, and each unit has a fully equipped kitchen for your cooking pleasure. Some of the units have fireplaces or wood-stoves, and all are filled with incredible Italian decorations and fixtures such as hand-blown glass and hand-painted tiles. Units sleep two to six people and can be combined.

The highlight of our latest trip to italy was our 4 night stay at casa spello! We stayed in the Mark Anthony unit, which was perfect for 3, and could easily accommodate 4. Spello was a great town to stay in, and a convenient home base for exploring Umbria/Tuscany with a rental car -- which we picked up in Foligno. The apartment was perfect for us, and we enjoyed cooking dinner at night two nights, which was fun and saved a few euros. The owners were a pleasure to deal with while arraigning the rental -- and Nadia, their helper in Spello, was fabulous. We will be back Gina! Thanks again for everything!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The booking service was eaily managed and the reception and support arrangements onsite from "Nadia" were excellent. The apartment we booked had nearly everything you needed and it was a delight to be able to prepare your own meals with local produce. Spello has plenty of opportunities to purchase very good quality produce. The ability to also wash and dry clothes during the middle of a long holiday is also very convenient. The location was marvellous with wonderful views over the local valley, the medieval town was a delight to explore with a terrific range of very good quality resturants. Touring to other locations such as Perugia, Assisi and Foligno, to mention just some, was easy either by hire car or train. The only very minor issue is the lack of a DVD player, English speaking TV channels are a bit light on, fortunately I had a laptop and we managed to watch some downloaded material through their very good WIFI service.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We really enjoyed our visit to Casa Spello. The treatment we received before, during and after our stay was impeccable. During our stay, we hired Nadia to prepare an Italian dinner for us in the Casa. It was a wonderful dinner of local meat, vegetables and pasta. Nadia even offered to babysit our 2 year old daughter during our visit. She was available to answer our needs at anytime; however, we did not require any assistance since we found Casa Spello to be very comfortable and well suited for our entire stay. The location of Casa Spello was perfect for day trips all around the Umbria region. We were able to visit Assisi, Perugia, Bevagna, Montefalco and Spoleto all within an hour’s drive. The town of Spello has plenty of places to eat as well as a couple excellent enotecas for wine and olive oil tasting.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We stayed in Casa Spello (Augustus) for a week in October and it was perfect. This apartment is a lovely home with stunning views across the Umbrian countryside. Everything we needed was supplied including a wonderful kitchen. We were met by our lovely host and had everything explained to us including great recommendations on places to eat and sites to see. We were able to park the car just outside the old town and took so many drives to beautiful villages and countryside. We certainly want to return to Casa Spello and highly recommend the apartment.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

What an absolutely wonderful week we had! Stayed in the Augustus Unit #1 and couldn't have asked for a more charming apartment. Loved the stone walls. We've rented quite a few apartments and this was by far the nicest and most well equipped, from the kitchen to tourist info....so very much appreciated the detailed directions for the washing machine! Apartment exceeded the description! Emails and questions all answered promptly by Gina and Jennifer. Nadia in Italy was there to greet us and was very welcoming and kind. Thought parking was going to be an issue but we found free parking available everyday...facing the bank in the Piazza, the road to the right. We took this road in and out of Spello. And Spello....what a charming, wonderful town. A great base to explore Umbria. Had a wonderful "tasting lunch" , including wine and olive oil, at the Romanelli Farm in Montefalco. Enjoyed a delicious lunch at Ristorante Maggiolini in Trevi. Loved our excursion to Norcia and the Piano Grande which included lunch at Taverna Castelluccio and back to Spello via Visso. And of course we started our day in the typical Italian fashion with a cappuccino and cornetto at Tullia's. A very memorable week in Umbria as part of our fourth trip to Italy. We love this country, the people, the food....and will certainly return. We're home two weeks now and I'm having serious withdrawal. I would like to thank Gina for sharing her wonderful home with us and hope that all future guests respect her properties so she continues to share them. It was truly a blessing to be able to stay here. Thank you Gina!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We (a young family with an 11 month old baby) recently had the pleasure of staying at Casa Spello. What a lovely place! Not only was the view from the garden of the Umbrian Valley incredible and the location superb in charming and ancient Spello, but the downstairs Marc Anthony unit with its stone walls kept us sheltered from the summer heat. Natalie (the Casa Spello caretaker) went out of her way to make sure we had a pleasant stay and to bring a crib, bathtub and extra blankets for the baby. With a slight modification (easy move of leg rest) the place was totally baby proof. We used Casa Spello as our base for exploring the region and soaking in the views and would highly recommend a visit to anyone in any age group!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our stay at Casa Spello was our second one. We loved it so much the first time, we talked my sister and her family to join us in staying At Casa Spello. They stayed at Tiberius apartment, which was spacious and well equipped for the four of them. My husband and I stayed at Mark Anthony apartment, that was so large we hosted dinners for 8-10 regularly there. The apartments are beautifully furnished with keeping modern conveniences along with the ancient architecture. We were lucky to be there with the owners, who were so gracious and helpful. We enjoyed breakfasts and evening drinks in the garden with panoramic views and romantic sunsets. The town of Spello is the perfect size town for living La Dolce Vita and feeling like an Italian after the week. Not too big, not too small, and you can walk to everything. Stroll to the bakery for fresh baked breads and pasties. Try to decide on the best gelato in town. My niece was so inspired that she started her own Gelato Blog that you can follow at gelatobuddy.wordpress.com. I highly recommend Casa Spello for your own Slice of Italy.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This apartment in Spello was wonderful. The old bones with modern conveniences. The location was panoramic and the food in the town was great. The contact person was so wonderful to deal with and the contact person on site was very responsive. It is close to Assisi and can catch the train for day trips or driving is easily done also. We were 4 women traveling together to celebrate a 70th birthday. I picked Casa Spello because of the wonderful reviews and was not disappointed. Gina was a delight to work with and everything was as promised. Spello is a magical town and is close to everything. We rented a car from the Rome airport and with Gina's directions, had no problem getting to Spello. Nadia was charming and so helpful. The restaurants in Spello are excellent. We managed to visit 8 hilltop towns and each night looked forward to returning to Casa Spello. Thank you Gina, we loved Casa Spello and the beautiful, friendly, warm town of Spello. Thank you also for the wonderful bottle of wine and bread awaiting us. We so enjoyed sitting outside in the garden, meeting other guests and sharing wine, cheese and other goodies. We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
