From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted with an incredible view of the ocean! The condo is perfectly appointed with truly everything you need, including a mango slicer! There is a lovely TV with a DVD library, however we never even turned it on. Every morning we had bagels on the lanai and fell asleep to waves crashing on the shore. We never got to see the resident sea turtle but on our last morning we were treated the awesome acrobatics of a passing pod of whales. Who can ask for better entertainment?! We left a dining guide to add to your library. We found it very useful, maybe you will too. Honestly, if we would have brought the kids we would have never gone back home. We highly recommend your condo to anyone who will listen. We will gladly be back again in the future (not sure if we can wait a whole year though)!

I fell in love with the pictures and write-ups on this condo, and it was a dream-come-true when I finally arrived!!! You will NOT be disappointed. First of all, the bed is as comfortable as everyone has said it was, and the towels!!!! Fluffy white towels!!!! I felt like I was at the spa. You can't ask for a better view than what this condo has to offer. We spent every morning and evening on the lanai watching the whales cruise by in the ocean. Beautiful. Be sure to bring yourself a good pair of binoculars. You will not be disappointed. And the location is perfect... beach front, close to bus stop, scenic beach walk to Whaler's Village, great snorkeling, swimming, etc. The condo is well-stocked with beach chairs, towels (yes, those were fluffy too), coolers, etc. Plus, David was a pleasure to liase with leading up to, during, and after our stay. We will definitely stay here again.

The view was spectacular. The only issues we had were with the kitchen. The faucet on the sink was very loose and was difficult to turn off and on. Actually, the kitchen really needs updating. Other than that, the directions for checking in late (which we had to do) were not specific. We were afraid our car would be towed since we arrived after office hours. We found all the people associated with the condo were very helpful even though they were not involved with our rental. The owners and renters we met were very friendly, which made for a very pleasant stay.

We stayed in this Maui Kai condo for a week in Jan 2012, and loved every minute. The ocean views are unbeatable. We have stayed at other condos on Maui, but if you enjoy watching whales, enjoy the sounds of the surf, and enjoy watching amazing sunsets, then this is your place! The unit is spotlessly clean (I rate it 5 of 5 on cleanliness), the owners have furnished it with many extras for comfort (beach gear for snorkeling, beach chairs) and cooking (oils, rice, spices, etc.) and the furnishings (especially the bed) are very comfortable. The Maui Kai is a small resort (one building with 11 stories) and therefore has a wonderful, friendly atmosphere. Very different from the typical "high-rise condos" around the island. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back to this Maui Kai unit.

You know a place is great when it feels like home. That was our experience with this condo. Everything you need - just walk to the grocery store across the street and you're set. This is our second time in the building over the Christmas holidays and this studio surpassed our ground-level experience the first time around. We rented a car that time, but the location and proximity to stores and bus stop really meant we did not feel stranded without one this year. Views were great, roaring ocean was soothing and everything in the condo was comfortable and top-notch. Dave the owner was very responsive and answered any question we may have had - we would definitely recommend this condo to friends - in fact, we already have!

You won't find a view any better than at Maui Kai. The room is perfect. Everything you will need for the perfect vacation. The view of the mountains from the front door is great as the trade winds fill the condo with cool fresh air. Great upgrades throughout.

The view of the ocean from this condo is unbelievable! The location is great. The condo is tastefully furnished and has a very comfortable bed. There's a nice flat screen tv and dvd player if that's your thing. Great Bose system with jack for MP3 players. The pool is located behind the condo so it does not have an ocean view, but it is a nice pool. There's a very large resort next door that can be a little noisy from the outside, but is not noisy from within the condo at all. You simply can't get closer to the ocean than this. We felt so fortunate to have such a wonderful place to celebrate a very special time in our lives. You won't be disappointed by this beautiful condo.

Maui Kai: The Best Place to Stay on Maui!

Stayed at Maui Kai from August 15-25, 2011. This condo is PERFECT for a couple. The owners have recently upgraded the condo and it's furnishings and have enclosed the lanai, and the condo is FULLY equipped with everything that you will need for a wonderful vacation. Very reasonably priced too. Close to the beach (the closest of any building on Maui) and to shopping. Plenty of free self parking next to condo. THE best place to stay on Maui!

Wonderful condo, Great Value!

My wife and I visited this condo for a spring getaway. It was wonderful, and I would recommend it to almost anyone (keep in mind, you really need to be two people or less for this condo to work, as it is a studio with a King bed...a very comfortable King bed). We watched whales and dolphins play from our window. The sunsets from the unit were incredible - the photos on the VRBO listing are very representative of the view. It looks like some people have complained about the volume of the crashing waves, but this was actually a positive for my wife and I. We enjoyed the sound and found it very relaxing (and felt that, with the lanai windows fully closed, the sound was fairly minimal for those who are more sensative). It was nice to have so much within walking distance from the condo - we rented a car for only 4 of our 7 days (saving us probably close to $200). That said, it was worth renting a car for some of the time to see the road to Hana, Lahaina, etc. The grocery store was within walking distance, as were some decent-to-good restaurants. We also enjoyed that the Maui Kai is a much smaller building than many of the mega resorts around it - we got to know many other visitors quite well during our stay, and everyone was so friendly. That said, many large resorts are within easy walking distance (you can go next door to Ka'anapali beach club for happy hour and enjoy reasonable drinks with a view). The last thing I will note is that the condo's owners are great to work with. They are responsive to questions, fair (including timely return of full security deposit as long as you treat the unit with respect), and flexible whenever possible. They are also a great source of information regarding local restaurants and activities.

My husband and I did our homework and landed on the Clayton's Maui Kai condo - what a great find! We were impressed from the minute we opened the front door and saw the ocean view...and from there we found that David and Cathy had thought of everything. We were there for a week and their recommendations for activities and restaurants were spot on. And they had all the ammenities we needed to cook, relax, head to the beach, snorkel, etc. I told my husband that this trip woudl be our once-in-a-lifetime experience - and after our week in Maui, in a beautiful condo, my husband insists we'll be back. My wife and I just visited Maui and stayed in this unit for 6 nights. It was without a doubt one of the best locations that we stayed in. We travel to Maui at least 6 times per year and found this location to be private and very easy for coming and going including walking to Ka'anapali Resort area. Would recommend to anyone looking for the perfect getaway!

This is our 2nd time back to this wonderful condo. Loved it just as much this time. I have nothing to add as far as recommendations to improve the property - you've thought of everything. We love hearing the waves at night from the window near our bed. We stayed in a 1BR condo on the Big Island after checking out and we missed this studio - we were closer to the ocean! Loved the whales - also the snorkeling outside our condo was just as good as at Black Rock. Thanks for the welcome gift basket!

We wrote a review in the book at the condo, but wanted to make sure everyone could read about just how wonderful this place is. David and Cathy thought of every last detail! We couldn't be happier with the location, the amenities provided (far exceeding our expectations!), and the beautiful beach that the condo sits on. I read every review of the condo before booking and it STILL exceeded my expectations. We saw so many whales from the condo that I can't even begin to count them! Our favorite times in Maui were staying in and cooking a sunset dinner in the condo. As I'm sure everyone knows, Hawaii is very expensive. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars eating out every night we cooked most meals and probably had a better oceanfront view than most restaurants anyway! I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. From the coolers, to snorkel equipment to beach towels and little things like a pineapple cutter - we had everything we could need and more. I cried the day that we left for the Big Island because I loved unit 306 so much! A million thank yous for all of your hospitality.

Amazing Views and Great Amenities

My boyfriend and I stayed in this condo over the Christmas holidays in 2010 - and were really pleased with everything. The views are seriously phenomenal. On our first morning there, we watched whales swimming off in the distance while we sat enjoying coffee on the lanai. I'm not sure that is a frequent occurrence but it was an amazing surprise and experience nonetheless! The sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks below was a really unique experience too. The condo is located in a lovely stretch of beach on the west side of the island - walking distance to a grocery store and a few cafes - which was quite convenient. Really, everything you could want on vacation was right there. And to add frosting to that cake, David was really easy to work with and communicate with. I would highly recommend to anyone to stay here.

My husband and I stayed at this wonderful condo during Thanksgiving 2010. We usually stay in a one or two bedroom unit and we were hesitant to choose a studio. Wanting to scale back on expense, we kept returning to the VRBO page for this unit and, eventually, the photos of the unit drew us in and we booked it. I was still nervous up until we walked in the front door. What a beautifully appointed condo this is! Even though it is a studio it is very spacious and super comfortable. We really appreciated the updates and the Tempurpedic mattress! The view is spectacular, we felt like we were in an overwater bungalow because the unit is so close to the water. The owners have stocked this unit with everything you could possibly need for a day at the beach. The gift basket and personal touches throughout the unit and the booking process is the very reason we choose VRBO properties that are managed by the owner rather than managed by a management company. The owners were wonderful to work with as was their local person on island who we happened to bump into. I would definitely recommend this unit without hesitation!!

My wife and I stayed at Maui Kai from October 4, 2010 to October 11, 2010. WOW!! What a wonderful condo. The view is amazing and to be able to hear the surf all the time was so....relaxing. The condo is very tastefully decorated and well appointed. For 2 people it was PERFECT. For a larger crowd it would be a bit crowded. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, knives, wine bottle opener, garlic press, toaster, coffee maker, blender, and on and on. The bathroom only has a walk in shower, but it is a very spacious and beautiful shower. The entire condo has nice tile floors that are easy to keep clean. There is snorkel gear, beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, and boogie boards already in the condo. We used the coolers on our trips around the island and were very thankful for them. The snorkeling off the beach directly in front of the condo and within walking distance in either direction is fantastic. It is also a very short drive to either Honoloa Bay or Olowalu. Lahaina is only 10 minutes away by car. The most amazing part is the wonderful glassed in balcony (Lanai) with its large sliding glass windows. We would open the windows and eat at the beautiful little table while feeling the ocean breezes and watching the sea turtles just below us. Although one doesn't typically go to Hawaii to sleep, I must say that the wonderful bed made this a tempting idea. It is a temperpedic and now my wife wants us to get rid of our current bed and buy us one. :-) There is a wonderful journal in the room for guests to tell about their trip. All previous reviews were glowing as well. It also provided us with great day-trip ideas. We cooked more than ate out, but there is a small shopping area within easy walking distance (5 minute walk) that has a neat little pizza/Italian restaurant. This pizza joint also sells wonderful ice cream. The little Mexican restaurant in the same center had in our opinion horrible service and the food was very bland and expensive. To sum up how we feel, we want the owners to adopt us, so we can use the condo more often. ;-) I also must add that the owners are very wonderful and most easy to deal with. They are doing a wonderful service by making their condo available to others. We plan to stay here again if we ever make it back to Maui.

My wife and I were 1st time visitors to Maui/Hawaii and celebrating our 20th anniversary. Arrived to find a beautiful gift basket on the counter (chocolates, coffee, snacks) - Thank you David & Cathy. This place has everything we needed, even a coffee grinder for our morning Maui coffee. Nice to have the wireless router for our electronics we couldn't do without. As others have written, we enjoyed eating on the lanai overlooking the ocean which is right below the window. We used the snorkel equipment to see tropical fish only a few feet off the beach. The bed was very comfortable (I think it was recently purchased and is a Temprapedic). I'll always remember waking up and seeing the moon setting over Molokai. I loved the fact that a big supermarket is right across the street, as well as some good food places (Honokowai Okazuya Deli, Java Jazz). Our favorite memories will be late evenings, sitting on the MK306 beach chairs and having the whole beach to ourselves while watching the waves. I would highly recommend your condo and would rent it again.

What an amazing place! We woke up every morning to have coffee on the lanai and watch the sea turtles pop up then in the evening watch the sunset. Snorkeling right there outside the condo was great and saw many kinds of coral and fish. The condo was very clean and we used the grill by the pool several times. Dave and Cathy were good about offering info on places to eat and books to pick up. I would not hesitate recommending this condo and I myself plan to return on our next visit.

This condo exceeded our expectations! Sometimes its the little details that can make your vacation a special one. This condo is set beautifully between two islands that has the sun setting between the two. You are close enough to the water where you can have the sound of the water putting you to sleep at night. We appreciated the quality furnishings and the added touches throughout the condo; great Reference Book filled with valuable information on restaurants, activities, sights in the area. We would love the opportunity to return someday!

Home away from home. Perfect condo with all the amenities. Quality furnishings. Very comfy bed. Fantastic view. The owners go out of their way to make you feel at home. Location is good, except for the lack of a beach area in front of the condo building. The beach besides the building is good for snorkeling but not for swimming. But then again, there are many great beaches around one can drive too. We would definitely go back.

We loved this unit! Walked up and down the beach and no building was as close to the ocean as this one. I loved having the lanai enclosed in the condo -it made it larger and felt like we were almost outdoors. Slept with the windows open each night listening to the waves. Great sunset views. Instead of a sunrise, saw the full moon set over the ocean each morning - beautiful! Lots of whale activity right out our window. We'll be back.

Highly recommend this place! We stayed here for 9 nights in February. The whale activity from the lanai was a highlight every day for us. Well equipped condo including the water equipment, coolers for day lunches, and various resources (maps, books, etc.). We loved the location, was a good location to start each day. BBQ's were awesome, used them every day. Can't get closer to the ocean than this!

Comment Text: This is a great place to be! Everything was just perfect. Nice interior, good equipment, and most of all the excellent view! We saw the Haleakala sunrise, drove around the Hana road, and went to see the first PGA tour game. We went to a whale watching cruise but saw more whales from here. Really. Definitely would like to come back!

The Maui Kai 306 is a *fabulous* condo. The building seemed a bit older, but the room itself has been immaculately maintained and very generously furnished (mmm, broadband internet!). The ocean view is stunning, too -- there's even a chance of January whale-watching without leaving your room! The only downside to the property is that the location is on the northern edge of tourist territory, so you'll almost certainly be driving south for any scheduled activities and entertainments.

Thanks Cathy and David for a wonderful stay in your "home away from home"! We loved our stay at the Maui Kai 306 and would definitely stay here again. It had all the comforts of home. My husband and I stayed from 12/4 to 12/11/08. The condo was beautiful! It looks exactly like the pictures on the website and it had an awesome view! You could lie in bed at night listening to the waves and when you look out, all you see is the ocean, you are THAT close to it! We loved having our breakfast at the lanai, which is enclosed for extra room but you can open the windows to enjoy the fresh air. We even slept with the windows open (there are screens) the entire time. The condo was beautifully furnished and very clean. The views were so perfect that we decided to eat in 5 nights because oceanfront dining can not can any better than these views! It was a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Maui Kai 306! Thanks again! Also, thanks for the gift basket, it was very thoughtful of you!

My ten year old son and I stayed for a week in June and had a great time. The boogie boards and snorkelling gear are great as was the table tennis in the recreation room. The beach was awesome and the pool was relaxing. A better unit than most in the complex and would stay again. Loved the ability to use the key in the lock box so we did not have to take it to the beach and the pool.

The snorkel equipment and boogie boards were great -- we used them several times during the week and it was so nice to have everything that we needed right there in the condo. Dave and Cathy, Wow...your beautiful place fit all our needs/desires perfectly. We especially enjoyed waking to the surf, soaking in beautiful oceanview sunsets, and rainbows over the garden/mountian side. Thanks for providing all the amenities of home. The snorkle/beach equip was a real plus for our daily adventures/outings. Proximity to Lahaina was perfect. We'll spread the word and see you again soon.

What can we say? The condo was perfect! Everything we needed was right there. The view was incredible! We saw 5 whales from the lenai within the first 20 minutes. Binaculars are suggested for a close up view. We took the Pacific Whale Foundation's whale watching tour out Lahania harbor. Saw dozens of whales, some up close and learned more about them then you can imagine. We would highly suggest this condo to our friends who may visit Maui some day. We recently stayed at the Maui Kai in Unit #306 and we don't even know where to begin with how much we enjoyed our stay. The view was amazing (excellent whale watching from the lanai) and ALL of the amenities were provided. We didn't have to worry about a thing. The condo is beautiful and well maintained as with the Maui Kai building. When we return to Maui, our intention will be to return to Unit #306. One week was simply not enough time. Cathy and Dave , Thank you for sharing your home away from home with us. We had a great time and especially enjoyed staying right on the beach and able to watch Whales daily right from the easy chair. We spent two weeks and it was fantastic. Be sure and take some binoculars - the whale watching from the lanai is great. It's a much better view than taking one of the boats.

We stayed here for a week+ in Dec 2007. Would highly recommend staying here. Owners have great communication and really take care of the place. Kitchen has all the gear you'd ever need. Closet has loads of beach equipment. **Right** on Kaanapali beach, conventient access to Lahaina, Napali Beach, etc. I'd go back here in a heartbeat!

We stayed at #306 this past April and had a wonderful experience there. This was our 5th trip to Maui and we have rented at the Maui Kai before but this was our first experience renting directly from an owner. It was easier than I ever thought it would be to coordinate all the details with the owners of this condo. They were great! The extras that we discovered in the condo were wonderful. When we looked in the closet we found 2 boogie boards, beach chairs, 2 coolers, a fan and lots of beach towels. And the kitchen has great appliances including a coffee grinder so we could grind our own Kona coffee every morning--love that Bad Ass coffee! Thanks so much for sharing your little piece of paradise with us, we will be back in the near future.

We just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Maui. Our stay at Maui Kai 306 was absolutely a stay in paradise. The view is breathtaking! The condo is clean, nicely decorated, and fully equipped with everything you need. We especially enjoyed using the snorkle gear and the beach chairs. This was our 2nd visit to Maui Kai 306 in 6 months!!! That let's you know that we love this place!!! The view is unbeatable, unbelievable and so so pretty. The condo itself is very nicely, cleaned, decorated and well equipped w/ everything you need to have a wonderful time. The owners are very easy to work with and more than ready to answer any and all of your questions or needs. They definately give a personal touch, by giving you a welcome gift basket that is toally nice. You can either spend a lot of time in the condo and just relax, etc and have a great time or go out and do all of the many activitties that Maui offers and then come back to a very nice and comforting condo at the end of the day. We cooked some meals in, some out & even used the outdoor BBQ and kitchen as well. We have done both and been more than satisfied.

My family and I had a wonderful time in Maui! This experience was enhanced by our stay at Maui Kai's #306. Dave and Sue have done a wonderful job outfitting their condo with all the essentials needed for a great vacation! We used the beach gear, the kitchen had what we needed to BBQ poolside, and listening to the ocean waves at night was heaven! Not to mention waking up to the beautiful view! My husband and I stayed at Maui Kai 306 the first week of May 2007. After spending endless hours on the internet looking for a condo to rent I came across the web site and guestbook comments for this property. After speaking with Dave and a guest from my area I decided to book #306. The minute we entered the condo we were thrilled. The view of the ocean, sound of the waves, the gift basket, and the clean and lovely decor were better than we expected. An added bonus was having snorkel and beach equipment available at no extra cost. We loved the Maui Kai property as well. It is a quaint quiet place centrally located. Maui Kai #306 really is a home away from home. We can't wait to go back. Thanks Dave and Sue for your part of our special meomories of Maui.
