Our 150 year old house (completely renovated) is in a small mediaeval village on Lake of Como, Italy. We share the large house with our friend and split it into two completely separated (three-story) apartments with shared wonderful garden. The prestigious town of Menaggio is ten minutes away with one of the oldest Italian golf courses.

Our duplex-side has two bedrooms, two baths (each with shower), a large living room with big fireplace, fully-equipped kitchen (with laundry) leads to sunny terrace, old palms in the garden, and a breathtaking view on the lake and mountains... dolce vita! Each room has a wonderful view over the garden and lake.

Surrounded by all Italian families, you will not have a touristic feeling in our place. Our friendly neighbors still grow their own wine... and might offer you a glass. There is a small shop, that provides everything from fresh bread to fresh fruit, wine, and cheese... just a minute to walk along the narrow cobblestone path in the back of the house.

Our home is wonderfully located in a very small, old village called Santa Maria-Rezzonico, on the Western shore of the lake, about 4 miles north of Menaggio.

We hope it is no problem for you, that you can't park the car directly in front of the house. You have to walk approximately 80 meters. On the other hand there is no traffic in the village at all, because the old cobblestone paths are too narrow.

So it is a very rural and peaceful setting, you should not only enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain view from the garden. Prestigious Como (wonderful drive along numerous old Italian palazzos on the lake) and Lugano (Switzerland) are only 40 minutes away. You can drive to Milano in 80 minutes, or you can find yourself in the Swiss Alps in St. Moritz in two hours. Venice is about four hours away, Florence five hours.

Great Lake Como Experience

Guest: CathywithaC (U.S.)
Date of Stay: 09/24/11 Review Submitted: 10/07/11

My husband and I had the home to ourselves and enjoyed having an authentic Italian town experience. The house is just as it is portrayed and the support from the owners was outstanding. We had in hand a map that supported our arrival with ease. The information both in the home and provided by the owners prior to the trip was very useful. We had a little glitch about the TV due to the action of a previous renter (leave things as you found them!) but the help from the owner was both solicitious and concerned. An unexpected pleasure was Aquaseria (sp?) south of the home and the bar Zanzibar and the next door open air restaurant. Homey and local. This is a great base from which to explore the lake and even into the Alps. The mid-lake ticket is a good deal.

Owner response:Thank you for your review. The renters before connected the TV with their camera (or playstation?) and afterwards forgot to connect the TV-receiver again. I will add that to our house information.

We ( two middle-aged couples) spent a wonderful week here in September. The house is very comfortable and clean with plenty of space. Everyday we went out to explore the area that has so much to do. In the evening we returned to the house and enjoyed a BBQ on the terrace and the magnificent views! The house and views are better than the photos. The owner was very helpful and replied to any queries promptly. Also we got very detailed instructions on how to get to the house. You really need a car to stay here. I definitely would recommend this property to friends.

Great Holiday Destination

Guest: Wayne (Canberra, Australia)
Date of Stay: 05/28/11 Review Submitted: 06/07/11

As four Australians in our mid-60s, we very much enjoyed a week in the house. The description of the house is very accurate and the most impressive aspect of the house is the magnificent views from all rooms, and from the sunny, south facing terrace. The house is very well maintained with a new kitchen and new bathrooms. The kitchen doesn't have an oven but that isn't a disadvantage for most people on holiday. As described, the house is on three levels and may not suit people with mobility issues. It is in a very quiet area, with the loudest noise you hear the local church bell but even that doesn't ring during the night. You do need to park the car up a bit of a hill, but you can drive down to unload bags and it is then a short, level walk to the house. Our emails with the owners prior to our holiday were always answered promptly and in friendly and helpful manner. We would recommend a "middle lake" boat ticket, which enables you to stop at the main towns around the middle lake area. The printed timetable issues by the boat company is somewhat confusing, but once you get on a boat going almost anywhere from Menaggio, it is quite simple. You can also take a ferry to Como which takes around two hours or one hour on a fast boat. We missed out on that as at around 9.30 in the morning there were no parking spaces left, so to be sure of getting a space you should make you get there early. We also did a day trip to St Moritz, but if you want to be able to stop in the centre of the town you need Swiss Francs for the parking meters, although there may be a parking station which like everywhere else in the town would take Euros. We have no hesitation in recommending a stay in the house as an area from which you can explore the beautiful Lake Como area in a property which is very good value for money.

Great Place!

To see the Lake Como area there really is no bad location but I would not advise staying in the larger cities if you have a car. From this location you can go anywhere on the lake by car but would recomend a ferry to see the larger cities. You have a lake view from every room in the house. The kitchen has all the basic cooking spices but no oven. The view from the yard is great. Bedrooms are large enough for anyone's needs and the same for the bath room's. Home is in good condition and most windows have screens. House is not good for people with a walking problem. Parking is not a problem. Great place for a bottle of wine with a great view after a day of running around. We had a great time for 7 days from May 15th 2010. Owner very helpfull.
