Location: Uzes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France, Europe (Nearest airports Nimes, Marseille , TGV Avignon (45 min))

Accommodations:  Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)

This apartment is on the top floor of a beautiful 19th century stone building in the heart of Uzes. If you look at the information on rental 54865 you will read about the duplex apartment that we have successfully run since 2004. The top floor apartment was completely renovated during the winter of 2006/7 and is in very good condition.

The apartment can be rented independently or together with the duplex 54865. To help you decide which apartment is better for you, here are the main similarities and differences:

1 They both share the same great location in the heart of Uzes.
2 Both have been renovated to a high standard and have good quality fixtures and furniture.
3 If rented together, great for two couples or a family and couple traveling together but who want some independence too.

Advantages of the Duplex
1 Has two large spacious floors with high ceilings, very spacious elegant apartment.
2 One flight of winding stairs up tower to main floor, internal stairs to bed/bathroom
3. Magnificent views from the tower.

Advantages of the top floor apartment
1 Brand new refurbishment in Winter 2006/7
2. Cosy and informal, would suit a single traveller well.
3. Less expensive - special rates for long stays.
4. Shady terrace - outside but out of the heat!

The apartment has it own separate entrance, but can also connect with the duplex below. This is to give maximum flexibility. If rented on its own, it suits a fit couple, as there are considerable stairs to climb.

The apartment has a kitchen and living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, and two electric rings, a fridge with icebox, and a dishwasher. It has a good selection of pots and pans, cutlery, plates and glasses.

In the living room is a sofa (which folds out to a single bed), table and chairs, tv, dvd and stereo. We provide a selection of music, dvds and books, including several guide books and maps for the region. There are windows to East and West so the room benefits from plenty of light.

The bedroom has a queensize bed, and a large triple cupboard for good storage. The bathroom has a tub with a powerful shower overhead, a sink with elegant marble surround, and a wc.

To reach the apartment, you first climb two flights of winding stairs up the 17th stone tower. Then through your own front door, which is an old oak door, and opens onto the private internal terrace. This has been decked with hard wood, and furnished with lounge chairs, a table and chairs and many plants. It is a very relaxing place to spend some time after shopping or sightseeing. It is relatively shady, and cool in summer.

From here there is one more straight flight of stairs to reach the apartment. However, once you are in the apartment, you can relax in good comfort, air conditioned if necessary, great bed and comfy sofa.

We also pay attention to small details, making sure that the apartment is always well stocked with practical items to make your stay more enjoyable.

When the two apartments are booked together, they can be connected through the bathroom of the duplex, or they can retain their separate entrances. By booking both, you have the advantages of both terraces - the views from the tower, and the shade and comfort of the decked terrace.

The town of Uzes is very picturesque and was the first Duchy of France. It has lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, and is very lively. The studio is also close to the roman Pont du Gard, Nimes, Avignon, Orange, and the sea side is just over an hour away across the Camargue.

    • My husband and I stayed here in June 2009. It is lovely and doesn't disappoint in any way. We were very comfortable & found Lucy helpful & friendly. Her welcome basket was a special treat, especially for tired travellers. The location is perfect.

    • I spent the first 2 weeks of Sept in the apartment in Uzes. Flew into Paris and took the TGV to Nimes. Then a bus to Uzes. The area has great bus service from Nimes to Uzes (as well as other areas). The apartment was quite comfortable and is well appointed. Great location - just steps to Place aux Herbes and 2 great markets (Wed & Sat). I will recommend to friends and plan to stay here again in the future.

    • The apartment was amazing. Just a short walk to the main square but surprisingly quiet. Although it's small and the stairs are very narrow, it's perfect for 2 people. Plus Lucy and Peter were so accommodating. We loved it and would certainly stay again.

    • What a lovely apartment! Great location, tastefully refurbished and full of character. We would have loved to have stayed longer. Lucy is friendly, helpful and really welcoming. We wholeheartedly recommend staying with Esprit du Sud.

    • This was a fabulous find. Not only was it an ideal base to explore the region, but the accommodation was fantastic. There were some nice little touches, such as a book and DVD collection and maps of the area. The terrace area was lovely. I would recommend this wholeheartedly and would certainly stay here again if I were to come back to this region of France.

    • We were fortunate to be the first guests in this beautifully refurbished apartment and we loved everything about it - the attention to detail so evident in every room, the brilliant location, and the charming building. Lucy was an extremely helpful host and our only regret is that we had just one week in this excellent apartment and wonderful town.
