About this property

The property has just been extensively renovated during the pandemic and is now ready for letting. We have installed new heating, a brand new stylish kitchen and sofas. The property comprises a lovely open plan kitchen with dining area adjacent as well as a comfortable and social area for sitting. There are extensive shared landscaped grounds around the lodge indcluding a large drying green and ample parking. If its golf on nearby 9 and 18 hole courses with fantastic views, mountain biking or walking along trails through some of Scotlands finest natural landscapes from riversides to deep forests with some of Britains tallest trees then this is the area for you. Long known as a secret destination Cowal boasts Scotland in Minature with a bit of everything, all just 45 minutes from Glasgow with the added interest of a ferry journey across the Beautiful Firth of Clyde. Mountain biking is a growth sport in the area with numerous challenging, intermediate and easy trails right on your doorstep. The apartment is recently renovated and can comfortably sleep up to seven persons. The Lodge overlooks the meeting of the waters of the Rivers Echaig and Little Echaig with the Holy Loch and Cowal Hills beyond. Situated in the Argyll Forest Park and Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, North Lodge is in one of the loveliest locations in the area. The Lodge is equipped with a welcoming wood burning stove that provides a warm highland welcome after a hard day walking, mountain biking or golfing in some of Scotland’s loveliest scenery. There is room for up to 7 people to comfortably sleep in North Lodge with the addition of a folding bed and a pull out bed below the adult bunk beds meaning that the lodge could sleep up to eight persons. There are three bedrooms, two twin rooms and a large double. There is a wet room with underfloor heating when a relaxing hot shower is required to soothe aching and tired limbs while there is also a smaller WC. Dunoon with its restaurants and shops is only 5 miles drive or bus journey (every hr) away while the lovely Cot House, Coylet and Whistlefield Inns are close by. The owner Alastair Rees knows the area intimately as he was brought up at nearby Rashfield Farm and went to the tiny Rashfield school which now houses Chainsaw Craft, home to one of Scotlands finest Chainsaw carvers Andy Mac.

Once we ĝot into the property it was very homely. Refurbished in places, needs finished off and could do with a fair amount of dusting. But overall it was a lovely stay

Moldy sleeping rooms, a great health risk :-(
Our stay was compromised very strongly, because we found out after 5-6 days that all sleeping rooms were moldy, which is a great health risk. In the beginning we thought it was just the smell of a house that has not been in use for a longer time. Unfortunately, we were proven wrong. If no improvements are being made to the accomodation, it is a great health risk to anybody to stay there even one night. Other than that, Scotland is a very beautiful country. Especially Puck's Glenn is beautiful and nearly mystical and a nice, rather short hike even with children. Visit the Cafe Blairmore with nice offers and try their Afternoon-Tea (which has to be pre-booked). It gives you a good impression of a wonderful Scottish Tea Time with a beautiful sight of the Firth of Clyde. :-)

About the host

Hello. My name is Alastair Rees and I own North Lodge. Although I live in the East of Scotland, I come from the Kilmun area and have family and many friends there. That is why I purchased North Lodge. It allows me and my family to visit my family in the area. It is a beautiful part of the world that is close to Glasgow and Edinburgh but feels a million miles away. My aim is to ensure that you have a wonderful time when you stay at North Lodge and I am always aiming to improve things wherever possible and encourage guests to let me know how things can be improved. I provide local maps and guides in the Lodge with local knowledge of places to visit and things to do.

Why they chose this property

I bought this property principally because of its beautiful location. I grew up in the Kilmun and Rashfield area and know it well. The school I went to is now a well known chainsaw carvers property and is well worth a visit! I still have family and many friends in the area and use the property often for weekend visits with my own family. That way I can ensure that it remains comfortable and is well maintained. I love the area primarily because it is absolutely beautiful at any time of the year. Winter time can be fantastic when there are dry sunny days and you can sit on the terrace in a sun trap and believe it or not, bask in the Scottish winter sun! It is peaceful and has views over the river that are constantly changing due to the tidal nature of the river at this point. There is always something to grab your attention. including seals at high tide, ospreys fishing at the head of the loch and even otters can be seen if you are patient and careful.

What makes this property unique

The wonderful views from the covered terrace which is a great suntrap are the highlight of this property overlooking the beautiful tidal River Echaig. From the comfort of the benches, you can sip a G & T while watching Herons, geese, ducks, otters, kingfishers, ospreys and even seals (at high tide)! Delightful Red squirrels feed from the nut feeder inches from the kitchen sink and many species of birds can be seen with the highlight being our recent seasonal visitor the osprey often seen fishing at the head of the Loch.
