A long goodbye
A long goodbye
We learnt of Shambani from a friend and stayed at Twiga cottages for 7 days and had a great time! My husband and I were on our honeymoon and the place offered us the reclusive atmosphere we needed. We were really touched to find Mwanaisha waiting for us to check in at 11.45pm on the night of our arrival. Binti and Salim took excellent care of us and Juma the garderner became a dear friend. Being Kenyan, i loved the relaxing atmosphere and great walks that the location of shambani offers. The hospitality offered by Shambani makes me truly proud to be Kenyan!! It is also easy to visit other parts of Diani and Ukunda (including a market with fresh green vegitables) as shambani is easily accessible for the road. There is also a big supermarket, banks and atms that are all very conviniently situated. You can also ask for directions when lost and any one will be willing to assist you. It is not difficult to get to the cottages by public transport as the route is very direct, what is required is knowing what matatus to use. There are other hotels around Shambani and the prices of food range from one to another. It is also easy to access the beach from Shambani as it is not more than 1 KM away. We loved swmming in the pool in the evenings and having relocated soon after this was a perfect way to celebrate the beauty that my country offers. Baraka tele kwa wafanyi kazi wa Shambani and to Paolo thank you.

Excellent calm and beautiful place
Excellent calm and beautiful place
We've been being in Twiga cottage for 7 days. And it was greatest seven days in our lives. Very beautiful garden. Cottage is pretty comfortable and it was cool to eat and spend evenings on the terrace. The beach is about 300 meters from cottage, quite close. Cook masterful prepared dishes. And you can always order fresh oceanfood from fishers. Overall atmosphere was chilling and relaxing. One bad thing is the beach boys. But there are on the whole Kenya coast and streets.

What a friendly place!
What a friendly place!
We stayed three weeks at Shambani and had it as the starting point for excursions and safaris. We really loved it - it was a perfect holiday for a worked-out, stressed-out couple who needed to get away from it all. The place is very charming, and the staff on site is extremely friendly and service-minded. Shambani has that feeling of familiarity and low key-friendlyness that goes across the line: from Binti the manager and Salim the safari organizer all the way thorugh to the fisherman at the gates at night. We often had the enire pool to ourselves, and that felt like pure luxury. We will definitely recommend Shambani to friends and relatives.

We spent two weeks at the Twiga cottage and loved it! The cottage itself was spacious and comfortable. The grounds and pool were really nice and for the most part we had the pool all to ourselves! The staff were friendly and helpful but also gave us our space. Once a day a housekeeper came to clean and tidy. They introduced us to a local fisherman who brought us fresh fish and we bought remaining supplies at the nearby supermarkets. Shambani cottages are located at the far north end of the Diani Rd so it was quiet but we could walk to the more populated beach hotels, restaurants or to use the Internet. The matatus (local buses) went by quite frequently so we often used them to travel down the road. In addition to relaxing by the pool and walking along the beach, we went into Mombasa twice, went fishing with local fisherman one morning, went snorkling at the reef and explored Ukunda Junction. For more upscale (westernised shops and restaurants) we went to the south end of Diani Rd. We also took a safari excursion to Shimba Hills but were quite disappointed because the animals were hidden from the hot sun during the day. If you go, ask to go at 6am, because you'll be more likely to see wildlife. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, self catering holiday in a beautiful, sunny setting.
