  Our holiday at Villa Castano was fantastic - it is the perfect destination for combining relaxation by the pool in unbelievably tranquil surroundings, with more energetic activities such as cyclying, walking and, in the winter, skiing (less than an hour's drive to the Sierra Nevada). The excellent quality of accommodation made our stay so comfortable, especially the home comfortrs such as air-con (which our baby boy hugely appreciated!), Sky TV and washing machine/dishwasher (which meant we could really make the most of our time there without wasting time cleaning, etc!). Will definitely return!!

  My family and I just spent 1 week with friends at the Cortijo and had a excellent time. We had booked the villa and the apartment which was great for 9 people. The place is really comfortable with everything that you might need. The bedrooms have AC if needed. The pool is great and the boys big and small had fun playing ping pong and petanque. thank you Nigel and Zoe. Sonia & Marcus

  We have just returned from a relaxing weeks stay at Cortijo El Castano, 8 of us in total, having booked both the villa and apartment. Both properties are clean, modern and well fitted, yet still in keeping with the Moorish style and are in a beautiful setting. The area is stunning, this was our second visit to Orgiva, but the first time at the villa. Zoe and Nigel are excellent hosts, but give you privacy at the same time. The pool is so welcoming and the gardens are plenty big enough for a large party. There is table tennis and boules if you feel energetic and plenty of walks. I recommend a trip up to the mountain villages as they are well worth a visit despite the sometimes hairy drive! We ate at Alma Alpujarrena restaurant a couple of times and the food and service was excellent and the staff were friendly. A massive thank you to Zoe and Nigel for making our stay so perfect and for giving us the opportunity to stay in their beautiful villa/apartment and I highly recommend a stay there, you won't be disappointed.

  Being regular visiters to the area, I must say this was the best villa we have stayed at. Lovely views, great hosts, Even our 3 girls were happy as they could access internet to do their home work (why does homework always involve Facebook?)

  Zoe and Nigel, we enjoyed a great holiday. With fifteen friends we were in the Sierra Nevada for motorcycling. Orgiva is a good place for beautiful trips in the Sierra Nevada to start. After a hard day it's good to rest in the apartments. You have really helped us with the preparations but also during our stay, you were great. The breakfast was fine, nothing was too much. We come back again with pleasure Zoe and Nigel thanks again

  We stayed here for a planned week the beginning of March. Unfortunatley, the weather wasn't very good, cool and cloudy- but the apartment was so comfy and the kitchen so efficient that we stayed an extra two days!!! Every chance we had we walked the long, lovely road to the end even finding local peros who adopted us and came along for the walks! John took many photographs of the area, especially the beautiful orange groves. When it rained, we watched TV, with many great channels in English. THere was also internet in the apartment... local shops provided delicious ham, cheeses and breads. WE even roasted a chicken and made soup!! Oh, and of course the local market also had a good selection of wines at great prices under 5E. We tried as many different Bodegas as possible!! It was easy to catch the bus to Granada for the day and we did this to visit the Alhambra, which is a MUST see. All in all our stay here was wonderful. Zoe and Nigel were more than helpful and Zoe even offered to do a load of wash for us!!! We were sorry the weather was more accomodating so we could have sat out on our beautiful, private terrace or in the gardens, but if one had to be "stuck" inside during inclement weather.... this was the place to be!! If we ever come back to Andalucia, we would definitely stay here again, only in late April or early May. Thanks again Zoe and Nigel . The Papps

  Cortijo el Castano is the most ideal villa/apartment/house to spend some very lazy days. The peace and tranquility is second to none. However, I would strongly recommend hiring a car, the typical old spanish town of Orgiva is close by and there are so many amazing places to visit. We spent one day in the ski resort in the Sierra Nevada enjoying a day on the slopes and the next day we were having lunch sitting on the beach! This was our third visit and we will most definitely be going again. It is perfect for either nothing but R and R in the beautiful gardens by the pool or full on action and sight-seeing. The owners Nigel and Zoe are extremely hospitable and will go that extra mile to make sure your stay is comfortable and exactly what you wish for. Picking the oranges off the tree for our juice first thing in the morning was magic!

  Super semaine dans une residence de charme et un accueil chaleureuse. Nous avons pu découvrir le charme de Grenede, la montagne sauvage (ascension du mont Ulhucen 3485 m), visite des villages de montagne, et bien sin repos au bord de la piscine.   We rented the whole villa and apartment for our family. This worked brilliantly as meant we could all get together around the pool and terraces but had our own spaces to retreat to with full privacy. El Castano is a fabulous cortijo providing everthing you need, with modern facilities and equipment (including air con and central heating!). Because it's off the tourist trail it's worth hiring a car, which allowed us to explore the variety of countryside around. We headed up to the mountains to see some of the beautiful villages a world away from modern life and had a few active days walking along the roman & moorish trails (a real treat if you do it at dawn to watch the sun rise over the mountains). We also had a couple of days relaxing by the pool. Zoe and Nigel are wonderful, they make your holiday feel like a home from home and are always happy to help or suggest things to do. Our stay at El Castano was wonderful, relaxing and a world away from the rat race, we've already booked our next visit!!!

  The villa is set in the mountains - we watched the moon rise at night, relaxed by the pool in the sun during the day. The well equipped villa is a work of art - every detail has been thought about and is pleasing to the eye. Furnishings offer luxurious comfort! Granada (and the Alhambra) were less than an hour away. Historic villages provide interesting places to explore locally.Nigel and Zoe's local knowledge enabled us make the most of our surroundings - including walks in the hills. A superb holiday destination that I would highly recommend!
