Caspar Cottage is a charming, quiet, nicely and newly furnished cottage on five private acres, just 3 miles up the ridge from the ocean and 10 minutes from Mendocino or Fort Bragg. It's a perfect place for a honeymoon, anniversary, special occasion or quiet retreat. It has a comfortable queen bed with down comforter and nice linens, sleeper sofa, fully equipped kitchen, gas BBQ and picnic table, lovely custom cabinetry and a beautiful marble tiled bathroom with a jet tub and large shower.
The cottage is very comfortable and nicely appointed. Flames from an enameled European propane stove bring the warmth and coziness of a fire with the convenience of a thermostat. There is a CD player, DIRECTV w/ HBO, DVD/VCR with small library of films, Satellite INTERNET connection, iron and hairdryer. We provide coffee and tea, toast and jam and fresh fruit and flowers. From the cottage you can walk through the Redwoods to a beautiful waterfall, as we are near the Russian Gulch State Park Waterfall Trail and bicycle trails in Jackson State Forest.
We will gladly direct you to great restaurants, nice beaches, beautiful hikes and activities on the coast. For more PHOTOS and GUESTS' COMMENTS please visit our CasparCottage WEBSITE. Please CALL FOR questions and details and RESERVATIONS.

We rented Caspar Cottage for 5 nights to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The cottage was even more charming than the pictures, if that's possible! Beautiful, peaceful setting, very well constructed, high quality, an abundance of amenities. The attention to detail was everywhere. The bed was extremely comfortable, everything was spotless. We could not have picked a better place! And the price-I feel like we stole the place! Nowhere else would you find such a unique and special getaway like this for the money. Very conveniently located to a plethora of activities and scenic wonders. Simply drive 3 miles on 409 rd, then either turn right or left onto HWY 1-within minutes there are endless beaches and bluffs, restaurants, shops, adventures, etc. On our way into Mendocino that first day, we stopped at several great wineries on our very scenic route through the Anderson Valley. During our stay we very much enjoyed :hiking from the cottage to the beautiful waterfall in the redwoods, having picnics on Pine Beach and Jughandle Beach, eating lunch and shopping at Noyo Harbor, experiencing seal watching at MacKerricher Park, hiking to the light house, 'beach hopping' along HWY 1, exquisite dining at Ledford House which included seeing grey whales spouting in the ocean! Overall, the area was so serene and quiet. Endless beauty. Not to mention the short drive to the redwoods in Montgomery Forest.Everyone should be able to experience the majestic redwoods in their lifetime. Indescribable. We will never forget this trip to Mendocino, the fabulous time we had, nor the place where we stayed- Caspar Cottage. Bob and Diane are such genuine and friendly people-very helpful and kind hosts. We already have friends who are wanting to look into staying at Caspar Cottage, and we would love to return again .If you're looking to rekindle your spirit, this is the place!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Reading your review of Caspar Cottage sure put big smiles on our faces. We love it when guests get to experience the magic and beauty of the Mendocino coast. Knowing our guests are happy and enjoying our little oasis rekindles our spirits too! We hope to see you back here again sometime.

We found the cottage to be in excellent condition and well cared for. The hosts were very friendly and took care of every last detail. Caspar Cottage is in a great location that felt secluded but was within an easy drive to the beach and several parks. A good value that we would recommend to anyone looking to explore the Mendocino area. Can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

Once again, we ventured to Mendocino and Caspar Cottage. What a relaxing and wonderful weekend. Rained on Friday, but stopped long enough for us to walk along Glass Beach. Saturday and Sunday offered beautifully sunny skies. What an awesome place to find serenity and reconnect with your loved ones and nature. This place truly is a treasured spot and beautifully crafted by the owners. Looking forward to another wonderful trip, maybe in the summer months with the kids. The owners provide a great deal of hospitality and comfort. Highly recommend staying here!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We have just got back from a lovely weekend in Caspar Cottage. The cottage was really cozy and comfortable, really clean and with lots of lovely touches, like yummy fresh bread and jam and fresh flowers, and lots of local information. Diane was really helpful with any questions we had about the local area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I wholeheartedly recommend this lovely spot!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.

We stayed 3 nights in July as part of a California road trip to celebrate our 25th anniversary. After calling Diane, I was convinced that we needed to make her cottage part of our itinerary and reworked our stay in wine country. We were not disappointed. The cottage is adorable - beautifully designed and furnished. It was very clean with a well equipped kitchenette (including fresh bread, jam and coffee) and a bathroom that I wished I had in my own home. Even though Diane and Bob reside next door, we felt we had complete privacy in a wooded setting. We took their suggestions on the waterfall hike and visiting town and nearby parks. We thought it was much nicer to stay up on the ridge (where we had sunshine in the morning and stars at night) unlike the foggy coast. Just wished we didn't live on the other coast - would love to make it a regular getaway spot!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+.

Quiet and private cottage in the woods, but just minutes from Mendocino and Ft. Bragg. Very clean and comfortable. Great bathroom! And the bed was so comfortable! Diane was kind and responsive when we had questions, and I'm very pleased she talked us into staying an extra night. We really enjoyed exploring the area, especially the art galleries and restaurants.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+.

Our visit was fantastic, from the initial sign on the side of the road flagging us in, to our warm greeting from our host, to our tidy accommodations. Great hikes and mountain biking right out the door. We biked the trails, fire roads, and paved down to Mendocino for lunch. Excellent weekend, thanks! Not your typical getaway. Relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful host/hostess. Serene, beautiful, quiet. Loved the cottage. The craftsmanship is superior. Recommended to friends and they loved it as well. Nice romantic getaway or relaxing family get away. Hike to the falls, or drive to the coast - Point Cabrillo Lighthouse just a short drive away. Looking forward to the opportunity to do it again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

About the owner: We built this sweet cottage on our five private acres near the end of the road at the eastern end of the Russian Gulch State Park. We also built our home and a small woodworking shop, and raised our children here. We have lived on the Mendocino coast for 35 years and love the Mendocino community.
Why the Owner Chose Mendocino:
Mendocino is a beautiful coastal village perched on a headlands overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It has a very active artists' community with many art galleries as well as fine restaurants and shops. There are five State Parks along our coast, perfect for hiking and biking and kayaking and birdwatching and beach combing. There are many activities and festivals throughout the year. Whale watching weekends in March, a Film Festival in early June, the Mendocino Music Festival in July, Mendocino Art Center Fairs in July and November, Winesong! in September and Wine and Mushrooms and Crab Festivals in November and January.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We enjoy sharing our little oasis with guests who appreciate nature, peace and quiet and a comfortable, nicely appointed cottage to relax in and enjoy beautiful Mendocino coast. It's all about hospitality! Please visit our CasparCottage website and the Guests' Comments page.
