Great Location

Guest: Kate and Robin (Forest of Dean, England)
Date of Stay: 07/23/11 Review Submitted: 08/08/11

We had 2 weeks in Menton, and found it delightful. The apartment had everything we needed, and was ideally situated for the town, railway station and the beach. Our daily visit to the market in the Municipal Halle to buy fresh bread, fruit and cheese for the day was a real treat. It all tasted so different. Pascal, the 'Gardien' of the apartment block, was most helpful. We hired a car for our stay, but decided not to use it as the roads were choc-a-block during the peak season and parking was generally difficult everywhere. Pascal allowed us to hire a garage beneath the apartment. The rail network is so quick and simple and relatively cheap to get anywhere along the coast. We especially enjoyed going to San Remo on the train for 7 Euro each - very different from the French towns to the West!

A wonderful week.

We spent a wonderful week in Menton. The location was superb and we walked into town each morning to buy our bread and croissant. Lots of good restaurants to choose from but we particularly liked Cote Sud which was located within walking distance. The apartment was compact and very well equiped and just right for two. We took advantage of paying for underground parking which was great as often the parking spaces outside were in short supply. If you are looking for a base to eplore the Cote d'Azur and to visit Italy you couldn't find a better location.

Australian couple on holiday

The property is in a perfect position to enjoy all that Menton has to offer. It is comfortable & well equipped. The owners' generous spirit meant that there were books & CDs to be enjoyed and enough household items for more than 3 people. There is nothing worse than having to wash every glass after a change of drinks because of a minimum number of glasses, plates etc. The list of instructions was overwhelming at first but as we approached the property, the precise instructions were so useful. We found that everything was clearly explained & so we could use the appliances. The owners are very approachable & welcome questions & comments. We are hoping to stay there again & would definately recommend this appartment to holiday makers.

The month of June was one of our loveliest holidays ever. The apartment is so perfect in all ways especialy comfort, which to 2 retired people is the top of our list. Everything is close by, the beach restaurants wonderful. We were delighted to find that one of them would whip up a platter of oysters on the half shell as "take out". We're looking forward to our third year at this our favorite second home.

WOW! What a great way to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The location was ideal with the beach right there and train station an easy walk away. We traveled to many places in France and Italy using the train, but also enjoyed just hanging out at the beach. The condo has all the amenities of home, but to be honest we ate out a lot with all the great restaurants. Thank you so much Marilyn and Tom for allowing us to stay in your fabulous condo. We truely enjoyed ourselves and would love to do it again someday.

location, location, location!

Everything advertised about this apartment is true except the location is even better. Walk to everything plus the beach is accross the street! We have been to France many times but didn't know Menton; what a treat to find a town on the cote d'azur that is still low key and charming with prices to match. The surrounding area in both Italy and France abounds with things to see and do. A car to explore the nearby mountain villages is highly recommended. The apartment is well equiped, has good light and a great terrace. We'd definitely stay there again.

My husband & I spent a wonderful month in this lovely apartment last spring. If we're able we hope to spend many more. It is just the purfect place to stay & do day to trips just about anywhere on bus or train. Anything you can think of is there, including a little wheeled cart to bring home all the wonderful wine & food treats we seemed to find everyday! With the food store in Italy & the wine store in France what more could one want! Pat & Rae, Sherwood Park, Alberta Canada

After Paris, we spent ten days in Menton at the Mona Lisa.It is very well located in a lovely town which we preferred over the crowds and glitz of Nice and Monaco. For us,the weather during the first half of October was close to perfect, being in the low to mid 70's F.Some good restaurants and a very interesting market.A lovely promenade along the coast.Menton, and the Mona Lisa, being so close to the Italian border, are ideal as a home base for touring.

In June 2009 after traveling around Europe for 5 weeks, my husband and I were happy to put our feet up, relax & experience a real holiday in Menton. The apartment was a home away from home. Everything we wanted was available and not having to do any more hand washing was bliss! The chance to stay at home in the evening, prepare a meal from local products and sit on the balcony with a bottle of local wine was most enjoyable. However, when we did choose to eat out, there was a wide selection of excellent restaurants close by.We spent our time relaxing on the beach chairs opposite and taking day trips on the train. Menton is ideally situated on the coast to do short trips to Monaco, Monte Carlo, Canes or other towns and villages. Wandering around the old town was also joy. The apartment is in a great location: in a quiet residential area, opposite the best beach, a short stroll to the supermarket and train station and a short bus ride or walk to town.We have already given Tom and Marilyn’s contact details to some of our friends!

We had a week in the apartment in September. We have visited Nice dozens of times but never got as far as Menton until now. It was a lovely place, very French with a dash of Italian flavouring (lovely gelati). We needed a rest in a beautiful place and that is what we got. The apartment is welcoming and ideally situated. It was immaculate when we arrived which is always a relief. Pascall was helpful and charming. We hope to return.

Great location, just across the best beaches in town, as well as a variety of good restaurants boarding the beaches. Very close to several grocery stores, and just a short walk away from a splendid promenade (perfect for evening strolls). Marilyn and Tom have managed to furnish their apartment with everything a couple would need for a great holiday on the picturesque French Riviera, including air conditioning (which is very rare in that part of the world).

Hi Marilyn & Tom, What an absolutely lovely time we had at your condo in Menton for 2 weeks. This was our first trip to Europe and we were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful tropical area. Your suggestions on restaurants, and how to get around were most helpful to us. We just loved the wonderful lounges on the balcony for enjoying a glass of French wine after walking our feet off all day. Everything we needed was right at our fingertips in your condo and the Marche U right across the street for groceries was most convenient. I loved your little shopping cart. It came in so handy for carrying water, and of course bottles of wine. We had some wonderful wines in France. We will recommend your place to our friends & family. You both were so pleasant to deal with & Pascal was a bonus too. Patricia & Bob Thiessen

Menton is very lovely. We especially enjoyed the location of the apartment to the old town centre. Very easy walking distance to restanrants and shops. Great for day tripping to Ventimiglia, Nice, Eze, and Monaco. Marilyn and Tom are the nicest people and so helpful with any questions that we came up with. We would highly recommend this wonderful apartment!

The apartment is conveniently located near the beach and just a short walk to the train and market. It has all of the comforts of home, is clean and in excellent condition. We can't wait to take our next trip back!

A friend from Paris and I had the good fortune to visit Menton for a week beginning May 23, 2006. Mona Lisa is a beautiful building situtated on the corner across the street from the Mediteranean. The building as well as the apartment was impecably clean and well maintained. There are too many subtle little nicities to mention but lets just say we were very comfortable and felt very at home. Obviously, a lot of thought goes into making sure that everything you might need is available. Grocery, markets, bus service and old town are right at your doorstep within a couple blocks of a beautiful walk. Monaco, Vence, St. Paul and Gorbio are all very close by via public transport.

We just returned from two wonderful weeks in France. We stayed all the time at the Mona Lisa...an ideal location. It's a short, 10 minute walk to town and Gelato, 20 minutes to the bus station (through the tunnel) and right to the "Boulangerie" across from the station. The apartment was just as described...very clean, charming and very comfortable with a market within 200 yards either side. Unless you enjoy driving in some pretty wild traffic, leave the driving to the bus driver or use the train. We never had any trouble at all getting to any of our destinations using either one. Thanks Tom and Marilyn! We'll be sending others your way.

we stayed in this apartment for 3 weeks It was probably our most enjoyable vacation and we travel a lot. The apartment was beautiful and so well equipped that we felt at home. the location is fantastic: the beach is across the street and a supermarket a few steps away. You are 5 minutes walking distance from the old town. There are so many places to visit La Turbie, Ste Agnes, Monte Carlo, just to name a few and of course thje market in Ventemiglia, Italy. We would love to return. Peter and Margareta Colberg

My wife and I had occasion to visit Menton in May 2006 for one week and thoroughly enjoyed this seaside town. Lots to do in the area both on short jaunts over to Italy and short visits into Monaco. Very easy access to the motorways from the apartment where ever you want to go. This apartment is situated ideally for visiting the area and is located in a first class building where pride of ownership is clearly evident. The apartment is one of the best equipped rentals we have encountered and the owners are very are good to deal with. Sonia and Barrie Horne

Our time in Menton was exactly what we wanted and needed. We loved the charm of old Menton and the beach. We walked miles exploring and taking in the town. Your apartment fit our needs wonderfully. It is in a terrific location and is so fully equipped. We enjoyed meals on your patio, reading and relaxing. A glass of wine was never far away! Your suggestion of the Paris Rome restaurant was outstanding...perhaps one of the most enjoyable meals we've had. From the moment we put the blue key fob to the door to enter to the point of our departure, we had no difficulties. We never needed to contact the manager for anything. In short, our trip was everything we wanted and hoped for!

My husband and I enjoyed one of our best vacations ever in this Mona Lisa apartment. The building itself is beautiful, and the apartment is lovely and so comfortable, especially the wonderful bed. And its location is superb! It's an easy walk into the center of town. From the patio you have a partial view of the Mediterranean, which is just across the street, and you can see the beautiful mountains also. It really is 'where the mountains come down to the sea'!
