Our stay would have been quite satisfactory if there hadn't been a very intrusive and disturbing renovation project on the building's balconies in progress during part of our stay. The property should not have been rented during the construction. We were informed of the project one week prior to our vacation stay. The owners informed us that they had just received notice that the project would ongoing during our rental, but they indicated that the intrusion would be quite small. The owners provided a 20% discount on the rental, which may be appropriate for a small and possibly unanticipated disturbance. However, for about 4 of the 8 days of our stay there was considerable noise (for example metal pipes being cut), dirt deposited on the balcony, workmen on ladders or a 'cherry-picker' appearing next to our second floor balcony, and the general disturbance that goes along with a project renovating the buildings balconies. Overall, I found the property to be very nice but the owners unreasonable in dealing with a unforeseen problem.
Owner response:Richard: "island time" makes it so difficult for us to know what is going on with projects and upkeep and when work might be actually happening. We had been informed the work would be completed by that time and painting might be the last thing left to finish. Since we didn't hear from you during your stay, only after you got home, it put us in a predicament about what to do after the fact. We talked to full-time residents in our building and they said there was 1 hour of one day that a jack hammer was used and other than that it was quiet during your stay. 2 other guests were there after you, had the same discount, and were quite okay with everything. We do everything we have control over to achieve the highest satisfaction possible for our guests as evidenced by the other reviews. Your visit amounted to just over $1000 for a week with 4 guests after the 20% discount. That seemed quite reasonable to us considering the rather unexpected information we received just prior to your visit. We hope you enjoyed the pool and everything else the island has to offer and will return in the future. One guest said they rent condos in FL and there "is always work going on".

My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay at this condo. It had a great view of the ocean and there was a constant breeze in the front to keep things cooled off. The stores were close and the town of Christiansted is just a short drive. The walk down the beach in the mornings was the perfect way to start the day. The pool area was a good place to gather in the afternoon to have a cocktail and chat with the neighbors. We fell in love with St. Croix and plan on going back next year.

Our stay was FANTASTIC! The condo was in excellent condition, clean, convenient to everything but just far enough away that it didn't feel congested or crowded. The balcony has an incredible view of the beach and sea, Buck Island and Green Cay. Beautiful and Serene. I had packed entirely too much in the way of household items (laundry detergent, fabric softener, dishwashing liquid and dishwasher powder, trash bags etc)... all was provided for us! I had even brought a roll of quarters thinking that I'd have to use them for laundromat- nope! The condo has its own W/D We were able to walk just a minute or two down the beach to Smuggler's Cove or Breeze's restaurants, which were both very good. I found it a bit confusing to drive at night on the left side of the road... but other than night driving would strongly recommend a rental car. We knew we wanted to visit Buck Island (a definite MUST for all!)- Cary Jo was able to recommend a guide that was incredible. Note to self and others: Take Dramamine if you even have the slightest hint that you might get seasick! Snorkeling was best on Buck Island, but we had several other great trips as well. Unfortunately our visit coincided with a high wind/high surf advisory that muddled the water on the north side of STX for several days. After the water cleared, though, Long Reef was wonderful- and it's right outside of the condo! Frederiksted pier was also lovely for underwater adventures, and, as always- Cane Bay. So, to sum up my rambling into one "word", that word is AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! My first vacation in 3 years, and well worth the wait. I will definitely rent with Cary Jo and VRBO again!
Owner response:Alicia, it was a pleasure having you and your brothers as guests in our condo. I hope you don't wait as long to take another trip! Cary Jo

What an amazing island and super great condo that Dave and Cary have! Their unit is right on the beach. We could literally spend hours and hours just looking at the sea's gorgeous blue, blue waters. The breeze that sweeps over you as you stay entranced in it all is an amazing experience to say the least. You are but a hop skip and jump away from some great snorkeling there as well. The condo is totally well equipped. The owners have thought of everything with all the amenities a person could want. Very well maintained and great attention to detail. The island offers some of the best beaches we have seen. A must do (hands down) is to make sure you get over to Buck Island. Cary and Dave also offer their guests great suggestions to make sure you make the most of your time there. Without any hesitation we would recommend booking your stay through them and on one of the best Islands we've been to. Thanks guys for the memories that will live on and on!
Owner response:So glad you loved our condo as much as we do! Glad to hear about the Jolly Roger buck island trip. I usually recommend Captain Heinz but good to have an alternate choice.

This is a wonderful condo and great location! The condo is well maintained and clean. The full kitchen, including dishwasher was great for eating in and the laundry in the condo meant we could pack less and wash part way through our stay. With the doors open there is always a nice breeze blowing so we never needed more than ceiling fans to make us comfortable. The condo has absolutely fabulous views of the East side of the Island and it is right on the beach so it feels like the water is lapping at your balcony. We have been to St. Croix before and stayed on the far West side and the far East side. The location of the condo is great because we were only 20-30 minutes from all our favorite activities on either side of the Island and just minutes from Christianstead. This was a huge plus for us! Cary Jo is fabulous to deal with and tries hard to make sure you have all the information you need to make the stay great, including tips on where to shop etc. I would stay here again and recommend this to any family or friends visiting the Island. Can't wait until next year! If you do decide to stay here, make sure you snorkel in the bay out front. They have a 5' Barracuda that lurks around the tire reef!
Owner response:Thank you Jeanne! It was fun helping your family have a great time together at our condo! I hope to work with you again next year. Cary Jo

From your first step inside the condo there is nothing between you and the sea. The unit is newly updated; lovely and very comfortable. Working with the owners to arrange our stay was a pleasure. We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay; exploring the entire island and its history and experiencing the many outdoor activities. Many great places to eat and we found the local people friendly and helpful.

Your condo was a perfect getaway for me and my husband, before our first baby arrives soon! We loved the proximity of the beach from the condo, as well as the short drives to other beaches around the island. It was great having our own kitchen, and the private patio overlooking the beach and water was amazing. We have already started planning our next trip, and will bring along some friends next time to share this gorgeous island with. Cary, thanks for being so easy to work with. Your condo is the perfect vacation spot!

We really enjoyed our stay here at the Colony Cove resort! The nightly rate was very reasonable, especially since we got the use of a full kitchen and lots of space in the living areas and on the lanai. The condo was very clean and well-maintained. This property made a great "home base" and was conveniently located for lots of exploring on St. Croix. Rather than spend each day at the condo, we enjoyed checking out many beaches in the area. Cary advised me correctly that a car rental really makes the trip more enjoyable! Dave and Cary were great to deal with and very responsive to all of our questions, plus they had some great advice about the island! We really enjoyed touring Buck Island with Captain Heinz and a bioluminescent kayak tour with Virgin Kayak. Half Penny Beach was lovely, as was Cane Bay. We really enjoyed a nice private spot just north of Rainbow Beach that we found by following a local who had pulled off to the side of the road to park. Rowdy Joe's and Eat @ Cane Bay both had great food! St. Croix was a beautiful island and we look forward to visiting again soon!
Owner response:So happy you were able to go to our island for your anniversary! You were the second anniversary guests this summer at 202D. Your unit is undoubtably the nicest, best situated unit of them all! I'm looking out at the sun rising over the ocean right now while typing this note to you from the kitchen bar!! The mongoose are outside squealing while chasing each other. It took me a couple days to figure out what that racket was all about! Also, wanted to thank you for the lovely bouquet of fresh flowers that were sitting on the counter when we arrived. They lasted almost 5 full days. My sister, husband and I went into "town" every night to eat and meet up with the rest of our family members and friends who came also for the wedding. Our most favorite restaurant is Bacchus. We took the brides parents and the wedding party there for the rehearsal dinner - - flawless service and fabulous food. We also enjoyed Breezez, Rumrunners, Cheeseburger in Americas Paradise, Kendricks and really loved Tavern 1844. We spent the evening on the Boardwalk with all our clan for Jump Up!!! That was so much fun. We did so much, Buck Island, Sunset Cruise, Snorkling, Snuba, and even spent some time every day at the Colony Cove Pool. Not sure how we accomplished it all but we did.

That was quite the storm!! Lots of thunder and lightening and power outage in 202d! Made for challenging girl time getting ready for wedding rehearsal but we powered through. Yesterday was totally awesome all day. We got lots of sun and enjoyed your pool - very refreshing. More so than the warmer ocean. Today is our sons wedding on Hotel on the Cay so we are excited. Sitting on your veranda enjoying my coffee overlooking the spectacular view of a mirror-like ocean. Just magnificent. We are enjoying daily visits from the gecko family here. They provide quite the entertainment. We enjoyed a sunset cruise last night which was flawless and breathtaking. I'm listening to the dove cooing in the background. How do you stay away from here? Just wanted to give you an insiders update and to thank you again for sharing this piece of heaven.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in St. Croix. Cary's condo is very nice and the views are spectacular. The condo is well equipped with just about everything one can think of. We rented a Jeep at the airport and found the 'left side' driving quite easy- people drive slowly on the island... which is such a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the U.S... Smugglers cove (right next to Colony Cove) is a good place to find a strong rum concoction- we spent our first evening at Smugglers, as a ferocious sub tropical storm blew in and we were basically stuck, so we were forced to sample a 'few' Cruzan Confusions!! Breezes restaurant is very nice- good food and drinks. I recommend renting a car, as you can then explore the entire island. St. Croix is beautiful!! The only negative of the week was the weather. We had rain and BIG storms almost every day. Buck Island is a must do. Tito and Sue's hermit crab races are also fun and entertaining. Sonya's is the best place for a St. Croix hook bracelet. We found prices for food, drinks, and merchandise to be quite moderate. St. Croix is very laid back- quiet and peaceful. I would gladly rent this condo in the future. In fact, as I write this review I am planning another escape to the Caribbean!
Owner response:I was so happy to have you at our condo for your "annual girl friend escape" trip! So sorry the weather was bad but you made the best of it and had a good time anyway!

Well, we have returned to reality after a great week on St Croix. You have a really nice place and we enjoyed it very much. It was very clean. The weather was beautiful. There was a breeze all of the time so we didn't have to use the A/C at all. How nice. The pool and surrounding area was clean and inviting. The grounds were beautifully maintained. The central location made it easy to get around by car. There were plenty of restaurants and the ones we chose were very good. Everyone we talked to was very friendly. We look forward to visiting again and using your place.

Hi Cary Jo and Dave, I just wanted to drop you a line since we never got to sign your guest book. We had a wonderful time in St Croix. We enjoyed staying in your condo. It was very comfortable for the 4 of us. The location of your unit was excellent. We spent many hours on your deck enjoying the view and hearing the sound of the water, watching the pelicans and other seabirds and seaplanes go by. You had everything we needed for our stay. The location was also great. We had a car so we saw most of the sights on the whole island and sampled many of the restaurants. The people of St Croix were very friendly and helpful to us when we needed directions. We also used the pool at Colony Cove and the tennis court at Sugar Beach. Thanks for everything!

This winter will mark our 3rd year staying at Dave & Cary's place at Colony Cove. We've done many cruises (still do on occasion) as well as the land-based resort thing but for us this seaside unit on this beautiful island, is as close to paradise as it gets. Colony Cove is gorgeous and really is just five minutes from downtown Christiansted. The grounds are lush tropical gardens with a pleasant pool and cabana/cookout facility just steps away. The entire grounds are clean and nicely kept. The clientele is largely a combination of vacation renters and seasonal condo commandos with a numberl of year-round residents thrown in for good measure. What was so striking to us is that the place is soooo quiet and uncrowded; even during peak winter vacation weeks the pool and seaside lounge chairs are sparsely populated, if at all (when was the last time you could say that about a cruise ship experience?). What makes this particular unit so special is that there's only one building in the complex that is true beachfront (as opposed to "sea view"), and this is it.The large gallery (island-speak for patio or lanai) runs the length of the condo and offers the perfect view of the sunrise over Christiansted harbor. The sandy beach is directly under you and offers the perfect opportunity for long walks along the beach; you'll awaken to the sound of breaking waves. In addition you are absolutely centrally located with the pool just a few steps in one direction and the neighboring restaurant (Smuggler's cove) a similarly short stroll the other way. The unit itself is squeaky clean, spacious, tastefully furnished and has all the amenities (big screen tv, wi-fi, dvd- and ipod players, washer 'n dryer, land-line phone) you could ask for. A beachside artificial reef offers great snorkeling and you can sign out equipment right at the front desk. Add to that a weekly rate that is insanely reasonable even before the stay-7-nights-get-the-8th-night-free offer and you simply won't find a better vacation bargain. There's tons of info out there about STX to be had so we'll just add that it's the incredible variety on this island that defines it and makes it so special. The west end is tropical rain forest; the east end is literally desert. There's a casino, resorts, world-class golfing alongside sedate historical gardens and plantations. If you want to be a tourist, check out St. Thomas; but if you're a traveler, come to St. Croix.

Cary - thank you for allowing us to spend the week in your "home away from home." We had a great time and really enjoyed eating at the dining table and looking out at that marvelous view! We did the Big Beard tour to Buck Island - the crew was awesome! Our watering hole of choice became Rumrunners - we loved all the staff there! We did eat dinner one evening at Breezes and found the food to be very good - large portions - not badly priced! Steve and I are seriously thinking about making St. Croix our home port when we begin our sailing adventure. We both are retiring the summer of 2013 and our dream is to buy a sailboat and live aboard 6 months out of the year (Steve will not give up farming - his "second job" - LOL). We loved everything about the island and think we would rather sail the US and B VI instead of Fl. Again - thank you! You have a beautiful place with a view that compares to none other! Jane Robinson

We had a great time. Did some snorkeling and swimming, went to Jump Up, but mainly hung out at the beaches and condo. We really liked Half Penny beach. View was great from condo. Condo was very nice and very well stocked with everything we needed, which made for an even more enjoyable visit. Wind was a constant 15-25 mph which kept the condo very comfortable. Driving on the "wrong" side of the road was exciting (too exciting sometimes), but we got used to it in time to prevent my insurance cost from increasing. Thanks again for all your help.

We just got back from our stay here at Colony Cove and couldn't have been more pleased with the condo and amenities and with St Croix. The photos and description of the property are right on. The beach and ocean are literally steps away and the views from the balcony are amazing. We would recommend if not renting a car use Big John's taxi, his number is available at check in. He was always very prompt, got us where we needed to go and is an outstanding human being. Don't miss Tuesday night and take the ferry out to the little island just off Christiansted boardwalk for buffet and great entertainment. And Buck Island is a must see! We are definetely planning on coming back next year for our 1 year anniversary and will be staying at Colony Cove again.

We stayed in the condo in late March of 2010. Everything we needed was there. The view was the best and we spent many mornings and evenings on the patio. There were three of us in the condo so the two baths were perfect. My husband and I rarely turned on our AC at night whereas my mom used hers each evening. The kitchen is well equipped and we used it often. The only glitch was that our flight arrived early in the morning and we were unable to get into the condo for two hours because nobody was there (but that was our fault). Great vacation!

We spent a day on St. Croix back in '02 (cruise ship stop), fell in love with the island and wanted to get back there ever since. This past January, having run out of excuses, we returned for a week of sun 'n relaxation. Our time there only confirmed our love for all things St. Croix -- the only down side was having to leave. During our stay we met different people that went down for a week and just never came back, and we can totally understand how that could happen. The condo was lovely, very clean, nicely decorated and furnished, and in very good condition overall. We'd read reviews for condos at Colony Cove on different travel websites and some were not all that complementary in this regard, but those concerns certainly don't apply to this unit. As a bonus, this rental has the best location, with the best view, in the entire complex - you are literally on the beach, look straight down from the gallery and you see sand; the view of the sunrise is beyond description. The grounds as a whole are well kept and tidy with a spectacular landscape of tropical plants, flowers and trees. For those who don't have a clue about tropical flora and fauna, most even have identifying signs. Beach- and pool-side loungers are always available -- in fact we typically had the run of the place, making for a far different and pleasant atmosphere and feel when compared with a resort hotel or cruise vacation. Downtown Christiansted is equally gorgeous and literally just a couple minutes by car (though if you're going to rent a vehicle splurge and get an open-air Jeep - you'll be glad you did). Cary and Dave were absolutely wonderful and gracious hosts who clearly have a deep affinity and love for the island. Because of them, this was the easiest vacation planning that we've ever experienced. It felt like we were making arrangements with old friends. A few recommendations for you visit, in no particular order: Download a map of the island for your GPS and bring it with, a quick web search is all it takes (street signs are apparently not part of the island culture). Do breakfast at the Avocado Pitt, on the boardwalk in downtown C'sted. Check out the huge tarpon that come up dockside in the pm to beg for food. Tour the Cruzan Rum Factory and the Whim Plantation, & feed the Domino Club's beer-swilling pigs. Buy fresh, huge lobsters at the side of the road. But most of all, don't overplan - just relax and enjoy the magic of the island. You're on island time.

We found all the information given to us in advance to be accurate and quite helpful. The unit was very clean and well maintained. All the furniture was in good condition and appeared to be rather new. The owner, Cary, even contacted us by telephone in advance to see how we wanted the beds arranged in the second bedroom. The view from the deck is teriffic. We spent more time on the deck admiring the view than we spent inside. The Kitchen is well equipped with a blender, toaster oven and microwave oven in addition to the normally expected kitchen appliances. I recommend this unit without reservation.

"Our stay at Colony Cove was one of the best vacations we've ever had. It was relaxing, quiet, and super comfortable. The condo had everything you could possibly need from a great kitchen to prepare meals at home, to a very comfortable bed, to lots of extra luxuries and certainly one of the greatest views of the ocean on the island. It is conveniently located near several great restaurants, grocery stores and the tourist attractions of downtown Christiansted. In addition, we enjoyed great snorkeling, swimming and sailing at several locations around the island. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary there in romantic St Croix and rejuvenated our relationship for the next 20 years."

You condo is special, one wakes up to the ocean. We loved it. We had a great time it was very nice and I have told some friends about your condo. It was very nice to have the restaurant next door the painting on the wall is beautiful and the people there (Guest&Help) were very nice. It was wonderful.
