Located in Historic Castine Village with spectacular views across the harbor to Cape Rosier and of the grand schooners coming in under full sail.

This charming, fully equipped cottage is just sixty feet from the waters edge and has easy steps leading down to the beach.

A unique blend of a small New England town with a common and seafaring village, Castine is exceptionally picturesque. Many of its homes date back to the American Revolution and the streets remain lined with majestic, hundred year old Elm trees.

Not many towns can boast more in the way of recreation, cultural activities and community services, yet remain so unspoiled by commercial tourism. There are no traffic lights and no fast food chains but amenities include sailing, kayaking, golf, tennis, the Maine Maritime Academy pool and fitness facilities, churches, a library, restaurants, museums, a small grocery store, a doctors office and musical concert on the Green......all this just a short stroll from Moonrise Anchorage.

One Queen bed, one double bed, two twins and a queen size sleeper sofa. Large deck facing the harbor with a charcoal grill and plenty of outdoor seating and an umbrella to provide shade. Private beach just steps from the front door.

Everything one could need for a spectacular vacation!

We were looking for a quiet, scenic location where we could relax, sit outside and read, and take walks with our labrador retriever. This place was perfect. The town of Castine seems like it was made for walkers, with a big loop, and great spots to stop along the way like the light house and Fort Madison. The beach at low tide was great for walking and letting our dog swim. We took a day trip to visit Acadia National Park, which is spectacular, but the best parts of our vacation were spent at the cottage in Castine. The cottage is very sweet. It is tastefully decorated, clean, and well stocked. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is simple but functional, the deck is great with a big umbrella and flower boxes. The view from the cottage is fantastic. It is perfect for putting your feet up and enjoying the view of the harbor. Often ads make places look better than they are. This cottage was a pleasant surprise.

We wanted a total change of pace and this was it. Castine is a sweet little fishing village, and the cottage has a great view of the harbor. The cottage was very comfortable; the decor was simple but charming--great for kids--but also pleasant when we sat by the wood stove after the kids went to bed. (it's actually propane so we didn't have to build a fire.) Our kids loved the split level upstairs bedroom, with its separate sleeping areas. They also loved being able to run down the steps to the beach to beachcomb and collect "treasures." We had a great time kayaking. The owners provided us with charts of the harbor that showed which rocks the seals gather on--seeing seals in the wild was an amazing experience for the kids. The town was wonderful for walking and biking with no through traffic to worry about. The cottage is near the center of the village, and we walked in to eat breakfast at Bah's Bakehouse and get ice cream cones on the town dock. This is a fantastic vacation spot. We all loved it so much; it was hard to leave!

This cottage is lovely. My husband and I have stayed a number of places in the area and this was by far the most comfortably furnished and well stocked: it was clean and beautifully decorated, and the owners obviously put a lot of thought into anticipating guests' needs. The kitchen was well equipped: with staples like ketchup and mustard, but also a full range of spices, and items like a garlic press, salad spinner, and blender. There was even a flower box on the deck with basil, parsley, and lettuce growing. We never had to buy items like napkins or sandwich bags--everything was there for us. We ended up cooking more than we had planned, in part because the location which has a panoramic view of the Castine harbor, was so lovely we didn't want to go anywhere. We had a lot of fun watching the sailboats come in and out of the harbor. As well as cable television, and internet, there was a great collection of books, including books about the Penobscot Bay area, and jigsaw puzzles, and games. The owners also provided bathroom accessories--shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, and travel toothpaste and toothbrushes. Without having anything fancy in it, this place really felt like a home away from home. The town of Castine is exceptionally beautiful--the harbor is adorable, and the white clapboard houses and elm trees and old churches give it a timeless quality. Being on the end of a peninsula it really seems like a time warp. We went out on the schooner Guildive (which goes on harbor tours from the town dock) and watched the sunset. The photos do not adequately convey how charming the location and view are. We are definitely planning on coming back.

This cozy cottage could not be in a better setting - facing a beautiful cove, decorated with sailboats, and in a charming, quiet, small village. It's a great spot for relaxing on the deck with a good book and a glass of wine. The accomodations, however, were only fair. The beds are small and creaky. The livingroom couch was partially collapsed and very uncomfortable for sitting. There were several lights burned out, the tiny television didn't work reliably, the WiFi was so spotty that it should not have been listed as a feature, the BBQ grill was very small and sitting so low right on the deck so that one would have to kneel or sit on the deck floor to use it. Just a little more attention to detail by the owners would have elevated this cottage from mediocre to truly charming.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your feedback. We have or will take care of everything you mention--the television has been replaced. We want the cottage to be as comfortable as possible. There is a queen-sized bed, with traditional mattress and box spring arrangement in the upstairs bedroom, and a twin-sized pop up trundle bed (can become a double bed) in the second bedroom. The other two beds are built-in long, slightly narrow, twin beds, and there's a sleeper sofa in the living room. We wish you had alerted us to the problem with the lights--we are only a phone call away if anything is not working--that should have been addressed while you were here. The internet and cell phone reception can be a little unreliable in this part of Maine. We wish that was something that was in our control. Next time you rent a place remember to bring all indoor furniture back inside before it rains.
